- Here is a nice 6ft Sohmer Welte Licensee that my father and I picked up in Rhode Island this past October. Manufactured in 1929, it sat unsold until 1932, when it received a new serial number and was sold then.
Outside of the Welte Licensee system that has previously been rebuilt and needs much attention, the piano itself is otherwise in original condition outside of a touching up of the lacquer case that I recently completed.
On my 36th birthday, I bring you "1930s Dance Medley No. 2." What a joy this piano is to play and what a wonderful tone it has. "The Soulful Sohmer" as they used to say.

Here's hoping that you had a very happy birthday & that you were spoilt rotten. The piano sounds amazing, much helped by your playing. Do you plan on rebuilding the player action yourself? Hi Chris! Good to hear from you. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Nothing crazy but a nice start to another year.
The Welte was rebuilt awhile ago. Not sure exactly when but everything still seems to be in decent condition. I suspect more so than anything that it just needs to be dialed in. Right now it's playing too loud in the bass and too quiet in the treble. Hopefully within the upcoming month, it will be in better working condition. It's a wonderful instrument.
