- We know many of you have been waiting for this! John rocking his fashionable safety goggles! That is in this video too, but the main focus is the MiniPro Motor Dyno has been wired up and we document some of our first pulls on a Holmes Hobbies brushed system. John will run several pulls on the system with a 2S and 3S battery and discuss some of the information shown in the graphs. We’re still coming up to speed with the MiniPro Dyno and learning how everything works, so learn along with us, there is some great information given here that will help you understand how your motor is operating.

I like when your inner child gets out 😂😂😂💪🏻 fun is all about...
Let's see the puller 400,500 and Magnum on the dyno please 👍
Oh yes! Id love to see the Crawlmaster 550 in there!!!
I'm curious the difference between a comparable turn brushless motor. Great video
That was awesome.
John, big fan, another great video!
Can''t wait to see a collection of graphs for all the motors you make.
Love it...nice to see all that "day-tuh" and curves on a screen...would like see motor comparisons of all your offerings and maybe some competitors and even the RTR motor like maybe a Axial 35 turn. Plus if you do this i get to hear you that YES, you are ready to set the parameters. Thanks brother
I have been waiting to see this and of course I want to see a Revolver 1800 on 3s and 4s ..Thanks for the great testing of a brushed motor I definitely want to see other brushed motor testing to.. I did like the shirt too how can I get one?
Keep up the great work love your motors they are fantastic ...
Was a funny video to watch and see you having fun. The new super stubby vs the regular stubby revolver would be cool test.
I think a video with dyno comparing your motors to competitors would make a great video. I love understanding the differences.
That’s a cool dyno. We had to build one in college we used piano wire in a driveshaft like coupler. There were optical encoders on both sides. The piano wire would twist and we could measure that twist with the encoders. We measured the torque on the piano wire and deflection using weights so then could plot the torque of the motor. This was closer to a hub dyno though and the one in the video sounds like an inertia drum dyno.
Thanks for the vid, amazingly fun! Id love to see a comparison between two 550 motors with "similar AWG" wiring , one running 3 slots, the other 5 slots armature. I think with the release of the Enduro, everybody has an interest in 5 slots motors these days. Cheers
Cool John:)
Oh my... now that's cool.!😁💪🏎
Awesome! Test a Magnum!!
Sweet. Can we compare to other silver can motors the trailmaster sport usually replaces?
Thank you for your videos, could you please test the RS370, 380 & 390 series motors.
I'd like to see comparisons between brands. Although I'm sure that being in the business people could say that the test were biased towards Holmes Hobby motors... Personally I don't think they would be. It would just be awesome to see a Castle vs Holmes Hobby vs Tekin, etc. Brushed, brushless, sensored, sensorless..... You get the idea.
in case anyone is wondering, its making about 0.14-0.18 ft/lb of torque, and about 0.12 horsepower on 2s lipo. which is roughly the power of 36 duckpower, (DPm) _duckpower mallard_ which is the standard breed for estimating duck power.
3s yielded about 15% increase in torque, and about 50% increase in power to a *whopping* 54DPm!
Do you smell what The John is cooking?!?!
Maybe you could make a vlog about differences between Sensored and Sensorless ESC and Motors and compatibility. Just bought Sensored Brusless Motor and non Sensored ESC from your company and your staff suggested best I buy the Mamba X ESC since the Motor is Sensored. From my understanding, Sensored Motor will work with non Sensored ESC but not the other way round.
Mad science.... there's no other kind of science!
test the hobbywing axe combo before and after the latest Software update!?
Gotta do a magnum vs a crawl master pro with equivalent kv really interested in that one
Ps you should do one of the new cheep knock off agins on of your real crawl master so people can see what Quality does
I agree, I'd love to see a comparison between a Crawlmaster and the new Reedy and Yeah Racing 5 slot motors. Use the Expert, so it's machine wound vs machine wound.
As far as data, both are correct. Same as duct vs duck tape
It's Doo-tah.... and you got to say it with a British accent. Hahaha.
You know I'll always support your product...I currently have roughly 15(that's a quick guess)Puller Pro's and Revolvers....still...
I'd actually like to see a dyno comparison with the cheap rebranded/reverse engineered China motors.
I'll tell you right now...the stock 5-pole in the Element Enduro is mediocre at best and feels cheap-on-power. I'll be doing ALOT of changes today on it.
Ditto on testing the Axial 35T and for what it is worth - Day-Ta...
Forgot to wear your safety glasses and hearing protection during dyno pulls !🤭 until you started a fire!
Please do some brushless pulls
I’d personally like to see some brushless motors being dynoed.
And the effects of different esc settings like adding timing
TeamG RC what you said.
Motor smoke is the best smoke!
I see the test runs for 4 seconds. Was this long enough for the motor to reach max rpm?
yes
Love the dyno videos it's so rare that companies post raw data like this now go get the big guns out and put the dyno belt to the test safety third lol
Could be really interesting to run through different transmissions and check power loss with the same motor through different transmissions
you've described my PhD, got one of these infront of me right now. Just need to learn how to use it
I would like to know how those graphs would varry betwen a 3000KV motor on 2S vs 2000KV motor on 3S. If You know what I mean...
Basically would look the same with a very slight edge to the low kv/high voltage, depending on ESC size. A micro X would more easily show a difference. A mamba X might not show it. As we boost up and ask for higher phase amps, it becomes more evident for any given ESC size. 4000kv on 3s and 6000kv on 2s might require a monster X to hide the difference.
@@HolmesHobbies and how would graphs look like for 1800kv outrunner vs 1800kv inrunner?
Where oh where can I get me a pair of those sweet sweet safety glasses!?
Oh, and it's pronounced data... 😁
Are you sure ready to set parameter? hahahahahaha!
if someone with access to an infinite number of motors AND a MiniPro Dyno i would ask for two things:
1. test with different batteries (3S, low mAh & high discharge rate vs high mAh & low discharge rate, 3S same mAh high C vs low C)
2. a second opinion if the smell comes from the motors. thanks to you, Mr. Longest Srewdriver in the World, i have some new phrases for these special moments in the elevator ("smell is gone, no big deal, no big deal...we have no warmth on any of the other equipment")
On #1 You forgot about the internal resistance of the battery. That will have more of an impact than what you suggested. When a fresh vs fresh battery fully charged is tested, there won't be a difference on such a short duration test.
. . . and I thought I was a super nerd . . .
I'm sure like your video lol
I usually pronounce it as data but I guess data is okay as well.
How is it that the power crosses torque but then the power falls off faster than torque does? These graphs do not look like torque over time equals power.
probably just the scaling. Each factor has its own scale on the chart, so they aren't in the same units. torque x rpm = power.
HolmesHobbies rpm=time, it’s a measure of how quickly the torque is being applied because 550 pounds a foot a second is what watt postulated a horse is capable of doing. Iirc about the anecdote.
@@KTMcaptain Since the time is baked into the rpm, we can take any discrete point of the chart and the data is still relevant. The chart does represent a test done over time, but the time isn't a linear plot on an axis. The power seems to "fall off" faster because it is the multiplication of two linear functions, which can result in a quadratic function. near the edges, the slope becomes steeper than the original lines. A good read about that here if you like math: jwilson.coe.uga.edu/EMAT6680Su12/Brown/EMAT6680/Assignment%201.html
HolmesHobbies my issue with it is beyond a specific rpm power will be greater than torque. For HP, it will always be higher than ft lbs beyond 5252 rpm.
But I didn’t consider that time can be displayed in two functions. I’m use to seeing dyno plots with rpm being held on the x-axis. But if time is on the x-axis instead of rpm and torque is on the y, then torque and power can be shown in this fashion.
You both are talking mad scientist talk
D-eh-ta
7:43 “275ish newton meters of torque...” holy crap that’s tire tearing torque... lol 😂
How about gas powered on a dyno
Its pronounced data 🤪🤘
It’s not pronounced data. It pronounced data.
You look much younger with the trimmed beard and boyish hair cut. Always changing it up you are. lol The hat is still the best, because it makes people so angry. Hahahaha!
Love the videos but way over my head on the math
Lipo is not that good
Need consent power to get good feed back
