  • Turn your Ninja Foodi XL PRO AIR FRYING OVEN into a grill by simply placing the griddle plate from any Ninja Indoor Grill on a rack inside the oven just like i do in this video... super simple and works excellently!!! Just look at how well both these devices did on a couple of 2 inch thick Steakhouse cut New York Strips... I did one on the Ninja Foodi XL Smart Grill and one in the Ninja Foodi Smart XL PRO Oven with a griddle plate inside of it...and i did them at the same time...in a side by side comparison with temperature probes insertedin both...PLUS... you can do this in any of the three oven models...the DT200, DT201 or the DT251 as they are identical in size...I think you will see what I mean by perfectly cooked medium to medium rare steaks!!! I hope this video helps you in some way and thanks for stopping by ... jelly

      So glad I waited and got a Ninja oven (shorty) on sale at Sam’s, instead of jumping on a PowerXL, I’ve seen videos of the PiwerXL that show they’re junk. I thought Ninja was gimmicky and overrated, but I LOVE my Ninja oven. Decent quality and versatile. I just did ribeye steaks for the first time and for the amount of effort required, I was surprised how well they came out, and I think I can do even better.
      Maybe someday if this quits I’ll break down and she’ll out extra for the Ninja XL, with its added features.

    Lodge makes a cast iron sear skillet. On a 2200 watt hot plate or high heat gas flame get the Lodge to 750 degrees and turning twice a side get grill marks branded deep into a frozen steak. I use a heavy Lodge grill press to push steak into the pan. Wrap steak in foil and with some butter and garlic bake steak at 350 degrees till you get the internal temp you want. Let rest in foil 20 minutes. This gives the flavor and ideal appearance of steakhouse grill marks. Set oven so top and bottom elements are both hot so both sides cook evenly. Try this on your cooking show, your viewers will be impressed. Use a large fan to keep the smoke alarm quiet as searing the steak outs off some smoke.

    The grill looks more appetizing on the outside but it has a significant gray layer inside. The oven had more pink going towards the edge, would be nice if there were closer shots of the steaks side by side to get the detail. My pick would be the oven cooked one.

    Holy seared beef Batman! That looks like a great idea! And at $29, the grate from Ninja Parts is competitive with the Grill Grate you reviewed before. I don’t have a Ninja Grill or a countertop oven (yet), but the smaller oven goes on sale tomorrow for $139. What I do have is an old Cuisinart Griddler with intact grill plates on my junk pile waiting for me to take to the scrap yard. I just recycled those. They won’t fit in the Foodi, but will be a perfect accessory to the oven.

    For the oven, why didn't you pull out the shelf when you needed to put in or get to the steak? You started the steaks at the side of each cooker, wouldn't they cook more evenly by placing and keeping them in the center of the shelf? Also it might help to put some water in the drawer you put at the bottom to help with the smoke. Is it possible to put one of those silicone baking sheets in the bottom of the oven under the pan (with water) to help with drippings and cleaning? Great videos thanks for sharing, keep them coming.

    Hey, jelly007. 👋
    John I don't what it is but I keep re-watching your videos🤗. I came back to this one cause I'm a chicken girl, rarely do I fix steak. Before my Ninja never could successfully. Nevertheless, I have 1 steak question & an unexpected question.
    ¹) my Ninja does not have the meat probe so do set it to Whole roast @ 450°? For about about the same time (med-rare).
    ²) unexpected question 🤔. Your cutting board; I have one almost like your. It's been packed up fr closing up camp; couple years pre-pandemic!.
    Is there any special cleaning or treating I need to do? Ya know like when our cast-iron pans occasionally need re-seasoning.

    • @JohnSanders
      @JohnSanders  Před 2 lety +1

      ¹) I think any setting that will allow 450 will work and just check internal temp with hand held thermometer...²) I use food grade mineral oil on mine and probably would be better if you happened to have done that before storing but not sure what to clean anything major off of it if that is the case...

    I’m entering this as a second comment because it’s about a different video. I watched how you fried chicken in the Foodi and loved how it came out when I tried it. When I was on Sam’s website looking for breading mix, I almost ordered powdered country gravy by mistake. When I thought about it, there isn’t a lot of difference between chicken breading and country gravy, it seems. Is this something you would be willing to try in a video and express your views, or does it sound awful to everyone but me?

    Hi! Your videos are SO helpful and you're very entertaining. Thank you! I just purchased the Ninja XL Pro Air Oven, mostly to get soft, juicy flavorful veggies with less grease than frying. However, so far I haven't achieved that. By the time they're done, they're dried out, crunchy and almost burned. I'm about to take this back and consider getting the Ninja Pro Grill instead. But not sure if it will accomplish what I need for veggies either. I will say my potato fries turned out great - but sweet potato fries were awful. How do you get flavorful veggies from the XL Oven? Is it possible? Thanks so much!

    I'm arguably late to the video and recently stumbled across the channel. I love the content. My only question specific to this video is why you didn't place the steaks in the middle of the sear plate on both devices. I ask this because I would imagine that having a steak closer to the side wall of a machine might restrict airflow (but more significantly might increase temperature) rather than having it be in the middle. On the Ninja XL the convection fan is located in the back of the machine in the middle so I presume that might disperse hot air more equal in the middle than having the meat refined to only 3 open sides where the 4th side is up again the wall. I think the air flow around all sides of the steak would have been better tested if they were consistently placed and kept in the middle of the grill plate which was already centered in the middle of the machine.
    Just an observation and maybe has no bearing but was a question that came to mind..

      We live in a 1100 sq. Ft manufactured home the nearest smoke detector is only 10 /15 feet away.
      I have a small 8” fan that I can probably use to suck the smoke out of the kitchen window which is only about 4’ away from the oven, and that with the oven fan should work. Oh, I do have a question for you and everyone else, how do I keep the oven door from fogging up? Since the oven is so close to the kitchen window, the ambient temp is cool around the oven when you turn it on. Would putting white vinegar on the glass help?

      @@JohnSanders, I didn’t notice any smoke. It seams my kitchen detector is sensitive. If it detects like a burning smell which you’ll get on a burn off, it sets it off, if I can get airflow around the detector it stops, and as long as the detector has air moving around it it’s fine. It has always done that since me moved in here 11 years ago. I got mine from Amazon and I have until 1/21/21 to return it. I may just return it and get the DT251. That way my MEATER will be the checker of the DT251 probe.

    • @kerrykeehn1694
      @kerrykeehn1694 Před 3 lety +1

      John, what if you put water in the pan? Since it’s the grease that causes the smoke, wouldn’t the water with the fat dripping in it cut way back on the smoke? Maybe even better, wet a couple of layers of paper towels, ring them out and cover the pan with the damp towels. My thinking comes from the smokeless grill concept, of using a water tray.

    I understand this is two years later, so I’m a bit late with this. My observation is that is not a 130 deg steak you cut open. That is about 145. Those steaks look more well done after the rest. Did they go back in during the cut for the resting period? A 130 deg steak should be much pinker.
