FYI the polishing compounds do remove a bit of the metal, it is abrasive and removes oxides chemically and mechanically, which removes aluminum too. That’s what those hologram looking scratches are, you know, the ones that weren’t there to start? The ones in circular shapes that match the buff patterns.. Microscopically scratching the base metal.

Hi Matthew! I'm Jean-Pierre from France, I'm polishing an Airstream for the very first time. I started polishing with Jestco Products (grey abrasive compound and pink jewelers rouge), it looks pretty good but there are some marks. Do you think that by using the S polish and the Cyclo I'll be able to make them disappear? Thank you for your helpful video! Best, Jean-Pierre.

How is the clearcoat removed in the least enviromentally hazardous way?

Hello, how often do you need or should polish an airstream? Also do I have to strip it every time? Thanks

When you polish it the first time. All the clear coat has to be stripped to get to the aluminum. It's safe to use paint stripper and a plastic putty knife to remove the clear coat. Rinse it off at the Garden hose. Then you use the nuvite Polish as demonstrated. A polished Airstream will look great for years. To maintain a mirror shine it's easy and takes only a fraction of the time it took to polish at the first time. Just going over it quickly with a Type S nuvite will make it look great again. Hope this helps. The guy in the video knows what he's talking about. However, the older the Airstream the longer it will take to even out the aluminum and remove the patina. It's a labor of love and you have to be crazy

It’s probably not a bad idea to reapply maybe three coats of clear coat afterwards.

Is this final step actually done dry?
