  • In this video, I share the Film Simulation hack that blew my mind!
    Here's the really cool part of shooting both RAW & Jpeg on your Fuji X-T4: If you shoot raw files, you can change your mind about what Film Simulation you want to use even after taking a picture!
    Even if you don't have a computer, you can use the camera to modify RAW pictures and save them in other film simulation formats. Here's how to do it:
    1. Display a RAW picture.
    2. Highlight RAW CONVERSION in the playback menu.
    3. Press MENU/OK and a list of settings will be displayed.
    4. Press the selector up or down to highlight the "Film Simulation" setting.
    5. Press the selector right to display options.
    6. Press the selector up or down to highlight the desired "Film Simulation" option.
    7. Press MENU/OK to select the highlighted option. The settings list shown in Step 3 will be displayed.
    8. Press the Q button and a preview of the copy will be displayed.
    9. Press MENU/OK and the new copy with your chosen film simulation will be saved.

    This IS a mind blower!!! What? This alone is a reason to shoot simultaneously in JPG and RAW both, as most people recommend. Being able to apply multiple film sims to a single RAW is great. I sometimes will switch between sims while I'm shooting so I can have options later. This eliminates the need to do that. Fujifilm is amazing, I love that they put so many options for us. I will be doing this on my XT-5. I'm new to Fuji, so in a massive learning curve, but enjoying the process. Thank you!!

    I was reading an article on a photographer some years back, when asked the photographer jokingly said he did most of his editing on the camera system and talked about the raw conversion. It is there since Xt-1 or may before Xt-1, but it's really a great option.

    Great vid, TY. One question though: I assume the camera saves the original RAW file as is? Does the camera save each jpg film sim you try as a separate jpg? i.e. If I convert a RAW to a Acros it saves an Acros file, then if I do it again in Classic Chrome jpg it will save a 2nd jpg as a CC image (3 images total: 1RAW and 2 JPG).

    This will blow your mind even more... there is a free Fujifilm program called Fuji X-Raw studio. The X-Raw studio program needs your camera to be connected to your computer as it utilises the cameras processor to do the conversion. By using the X-Raw studio program you can see the image converted on your PC. It's a good way to experiment and make some Fuji JPEG recipes. X-Raw Studio is so underrated.

    • @ScottDawson
      @ScottDawson  Před 3 lety +3

      @fabienb Před 3 lety +2

      @@ScottDawson This actually expands on my other comment I just left. You can use Raw Studio for the conversion before importing to LR for the editing, giving you a colour rendition that is as Fuji intended.

    Is this can apply to video LOG also?

  • @fabienb
    @fabienb Před 3 lety +1

    By the way, the problem with Lightroom that I didn't see mentioned in the article either, is that the profiles you see in LR are not the same simulations you have in camera. Fujifilm never provided them to Adobe (they have to PhaseOne though, as they're business partners) and so the Profiles you see in LR and CameraRaw are just Adobe's educated guesses. Of course Adobe have amazing engineers to figure them out, but they are not the Fuji originals. Adobe also refuse to cater for the X-Trans sensor to this day, which is why we still experience the "worms", even though things have improved. C1 on the other hand, even though they mess with photos taken with DR400 for example so they're not perfect either, partnered with Fuji and that's why you have better handling of sharpening upon importing and better colour matching.
    Therefore, your technique is also great to correctly apply the simulation rather than asking LR to do it. Having said that, unless I need a professional large print of a photo, I still do everything in LR myself :D :D :D
