Happy 2024! I cannot get over that it’s already a new year and so I wanted to do a recap of the last two years of my build.
There’s been so many ups and downs, so many mistakes but also so much growth and so much more education.
I’m blown away that there’s a structure standing on this once vacant lot. I’m shocked I’ve been able to build my own from scratch with very little experience. From tree felling to land development, to excavating, to plumbing, electrica, foundation work, framing a shed, framing my own house, roofing, window installation and more!

Biata, I have watched you since you started. I am an old retired guy who has built homes and I am always in awe of you and your talents, willingness to learn from mistakes and fix them. You are awesome! Not many people would attempt to do what you have done. I get up really early and really enjoy your accomplishments. I am getting ready to remodel a big room and my kitchen (again, the last time I did this was 35 years ago) and you have given me the go get em attitude even though I am almost 80. Keep up the great work, you are an inspiration! Happy new year!

I guess this is the "retired" section, and you said what I wanted to but better. All of my work for the last twenty plus years around my house is done by me alone, almost never help. The only thing I do not tackle is my truck, but electrical, plumbing, carpentry, woodworking, metal work - everything is mine. So I appreciate when Biata just jumps in, learns about and goes for it. Sometimes mistakes, but always finishing. Only a couple of things are more satisfying than that, being able to look at your work and tell yourself - damned I did that.

That is awesome! You built a house for your family. I have 4 sisters and are incredible women too. I remodel homes and I have been trying to build my house but I keep delaying my own house. But this is the year and you for your inspiration.
I have watched you from the beginning. I am impressed with what you have done just goes to show you can do anything you set your mind to.
It is amazing looking back and seeing you overcome obstacles - not the least of which was that 12/12 roof! The rest, although it will go slowly, is going to be easier physically. Your dream of helping others down the road is fantastic, perhaps some generous people could donate to a non-profit to help in that end. There are plenty of wealthy people looking for worthy causes, and yours would be one!

Biata, just like many of the others have mentioned I have also watched your build from the begining. And I wanted to comment to you about when you learned how to run a chainsaw and fall trees. I worked in the woods for almost 15 years and from my point of view you not only had great instruction but you most definitely have the talent for it. I have seen where some guys in my area took a college coarse in forestry where tree cutting was one of the skillsets to learn and they couldn't even come close to what you can do. I think your late biological father would be very proud of you.

Just came across your Chanel and I want to tell you how amazing you are. My husband and I have been on a very similar journey over the last year and are doing a lot of the work ourselves. It gets pretty discouraging sometimes when you look at the financial aspect but f things and also trying to tackle something you have never tried and feel extremely unqualified for. This reminds me of growing up in Jamaica. Your neighbors and family will actually come and help you build your home, and you only had to provide food.

I have watched you since before the rebar went in the foundation and girl you have rocked this whole process . I know a lot of framers who still make some of the same mistakes you have so don't beat yourself up to much . Keep going and knock it out of the park just like you have been doing .

Being an off grid DIY builder myself (wow, that sounds heavy!), I have watched tons of CZcams videos on land clearing, cabin & home building & off grid living. This one easily is in the top three, and hugely inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing your journey! It gives me hope, not just in my ability to continue in my own project, but in humanity. I love how you faced your fears - I had an intense fear of saws and my dad was a carpenter 🤦🏼♀️. I just rebuilt my deck with cedar, but it was a huge life changer to be now comfortable with all kinds of saws! I love working with wood and my project wish list just expanded exponentially! Wish I did this at your age - keep going!

Absolutely INCREDIBLE! What a mom, What a wife, What a LIFE! Your husband must be amazing too, so that you feel supported and capable of doing this for your family. Cuddo’s to everyone that helps you. I am a 47 yr old gay guy who doesn’t come from money and knows “if you want something you can’t afford, make it yourself”. I’m also Hispanic and in our community our elderly parents become our dependents. I am gladly moving them to me in North Carolina soon and will build them a house with the little money they have created from a life time of work. I, WILL BUILD THEM A HOUSE, as it is what we can afford. God will help me as I do this for my parents and watch over them as they age. God bless you and yours for you have inspired me and given me hope. Thank You.

I got the window in my shed for free. Went a little crazy on the custom windows and roofline of our home but if you go more a simple route it will bring the cost down. One roof line is much cheaper!

Congrats so far. Every time you say 'I've learned this or I learned that.......' you are actually teaching others what to do, not to do, or what to consider. I often use a phrase, 'What am I missing... before I carry on forward. I will even set aside a decision for a day or weekend, just to ask myself, what am I missing.

Having a trailer is a great option. It's a clean, warm and dry place to stay, particularly during rain storms and really bad weather. Those Stihl chainsaws are the gold standard. Great job. The construction industry has a shortage of skilled trades workers, and you probably could get hired right away - if you ever decided to do that.

This is my first time seeing this channel but I love everything about this. I felt so at home so to speak listening to you and hearing your struggles and your wins. I too have been wanting to build communities for the homeless, abused, etc though I don't have the means to do so. It is something I've thought about for years. People just look at some of them and immediately discredit them for their situation but sometimes you just need a hand up. I also have a website idea not related to homeless or abuse. There's so much I want to do without the money or skills to do it.
