  • INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAI‘I presents a series exploring the quality of life on each island, with residents from each island driving the conversations. What issues matter most to each island? These episodes are a precursor to our upcoming Election 2018 coverage. Our Quality of Life series continues with a focus on the community issues that are of most concern for Lāna‘i residents.

Ita so funny ... Im currently living in Santa Fe NM as a Traveling RBT, and am considering moving to Lanai for another travel position. When one of the people shoutrd out Santa Fe I giggled so deeply and took it as a sign that maybe .... Just maybe .. i need to go to lanai

well, after having the privilege of visiting Lanai, I'd say the cultural narrative is very quiet- it's been co-opted by the hotels and put on the walls of the rooms in romanticized murals and art. You can rent a jeep and drive all around through the sacred sights, but again, no guides, and people walk all over the place without a clue. It would be nice if jeeps were only available with a guide to protect places and give better context. Discovering that the main 4 seasons hotel is built over villages and burial grounds was horrifying. The retaining walls of the hotel used the village and grave marker stones. yikes! I'd love to see actual ecological and cultural limitations to help keep the island healthy for the people that live there. Mahalo

What products and services do the hotels purchase from local businesses/people ?

I have been to all the islands but Lana’i is thee most friendliest island. My arm would get sore from waving to everyone when you’re driving lol

Geez, I hope that young girl isn't representative of the population there on Lanai. She could barely articulate a single thought. Maybe, recruit teachers with all due respect.

His resort is kinda ugly looking for a resort but it for the rich 😆 n I’m not rich so what do I know .. I love his island though . Of all island his is the best and the size too.. perfect for tropical fruit trees export n farming . The only problem is I don’t see it a popular tourist attraction as much as the Caribbean n prob caters to honey moon or rich peoples get away . I’m poor so I likes to do things n sight seeing at the price I can afford 😆
