  • Mark is the owner of the 2002 Chevy Avalanche and he wanted to see how far he could go in his truck through parts of the Rubicon Trail. His truck is riding on 35” tires, 15lbs in each tire, 6” lift, Warn 12.5k evo winch, 4.88 gears, and Eaton Trutrac in the rear diff. He has No rock guards, no steel bumpers, or skid plates. I think everyone in the group including mark was nervous about the day. I don’t want to spoil the video, so I hope you enjoy it… leave comments and questions below, cheers!

    The Avalanche is a legend! My dad had one when I got my licence at 16 years old. My sister and I would load up food, supplies and take it up the mountains and go car camping in it! This was over a decade before there was any "overlanding" trends lol, so we were totally original and started a trend, here in West Vancouver lol. All the rich kids were bringing their parents family trucks/SUVs to camp in lol.
    We kept the cover on the bed, opened the lower part of the back mid-gate and slept with with our heads in the cabin. We are twins and both just 4ft,10 inches tall, so we still had lots of room left over, to keep our food at the end of the truck bed lol, after clearing the back seats to fold them. It was an epic adventure rig, and I'm buying one for nostalgia! It was amazingly capable too!
    Awesome video!

    Thank you Bryan Paligo and The 4x2 Wagon Family Nation. Even though I was the only Heavy Chevy in the sea of Jeeps you folks always make me feel as part of the Family. I'm super pumped to have punched my ticket at the Gate and many more obstacles of the Rubicon that we crawled. I had an amazing time and can't wait to go again.

      Congratulations, I'm a "jeep guy" but my daily is an 05 Z71 Avalanche and I have beefed it up to tow my new house, which is a 20 foot toy hauler camper. I'm trying to find a fine line between your truck and efficient towing. You did an amazing job building your rig and executing your mission!! Do you run 2 batteries and what winch do you have? I just added front and upgraded rear hitch receivers to Curt heavy duty and bought a Superwinch SX12,000 lbs winch. I'm planning the wiring now, how does your electric handle the winch?

      Mark - talk to me about your wheels, tires, and suspension setup. Is yours the 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton? I have an 07 Av myself and have been looking for some more inspiration for taking it to do more offroading.

Look in your glove box if it has the G80 code you have a LSD. Mine stock had LSD with 4.10 gears. The 4.88 help immensely. Very basic setup. Get your Avy out there. 6" lift on 35" Firestone Destination MT tires. I had 33s on a torsion key 2" lift. I kept breaking steering components and ball joints. Lift corrected steering geometry, got more travel and able to stuff 35" tires. I regeared to 4.88. I really want to go 37" tires but new wheels and tires are expensive

    Why does the bead keep breaking on the avalanche? Or must be the wheel...

    • @TheMkshort707
      @TheMkshort707 Před 2 lety +2

      This event and the one in the other video on snow we were winching lateral. The sideway stress against the tires at 15ish psi had no chance. Rolled the bead right off wheel. I would say user error. My fault for winching against tires. I have to pay more attention in future. Either air up (I carry 20# CO2) or turn tires into direction of pull when winching

  • @panagiotisf7228

    • @4x2WagonFamily
      @4x2WagonFamily  Před 2 lety +2

      Maybe, and that’s lesson learned. but oftentimes you might think you don’t need a spot until you break something🤣 I think a good general rule is don’t spot unless the driver is asking for help.
