- How much does it cost to travel the world by motorcycle? In this video I give an overview of the main costs to consider when planning a long motorcycle trip. These costs can be divided into daily costs, non-daily costs and long term costs. We'll start out with the relatively easier to calculate daily costs and move toward more harder to predict costs. The goal is to give you an quick and easy calculation that will depend a lot on your circumstances and travel style.

Hi, My name is Pedro Mota and I ride my trusty Honda Transalp to wherever she will take me on this motorcycle tour around the world!
Wanna know what's out there for once you're good to go?
.
Check out the early days ride from Europe to Japan czcams.com/video/wmq6lsjMYBw/video.html
The ride in South America czcams.com/video/EAs5ILrSZKA/video.html
Can you add a link to the mapping app you use for travel. I like using Google maps but that's all I have ever used it would nice to ha e a mapping/GPS app that's more accurate with its roads.
5:56 if you want to skip ahead to the costs.
Thank you. A lot of fluff for a "quick" cost analysis.
@@frankrizzo367 Got to make that CZcams money yo.
Thank you 👍🏻
God send you straightaway from heaven
Thank you so much.... he talks alot
My heart: I really want to travel the world by motorcycle
My wallet: we don’t do that here
My dad's wallet: you can go anywhere
My mom : stay safe in home don't go out side 😍
I think you could get your fill of this, by traveling one country at a time, so you don't have to deal with all that transferring & registering the bike between borders! Start with a 2-week motorbike tour of one country. You can get a better price if you rent a motorcycle for two weeks & if it breaks down, you simply switch it out for another rental. This idea of going across multiple borders is romantic but unrealistic.
@@walkerskii that's a good idea I never thought of that
Just came back from Trans American trail. ~9000miles, one month, 1300$ plus after trip maintenance (500-600$). Did it all in 30days. 4 motels, 3 campsites, 23 camp nights
I've started my ride with 20€ in my pocket.
Now I even have a smartphone to watch this video!
Believe in yourself!
How did you do it?
@@user-ru1kh1pq4s I did some good things and some bad things. We try to do the right thing

Thanks mate! Just convinced me to stay home. Drive safe Pedro
Same :)) !
The only people who think it's too expensive are the ones that stay home. Go, it's worth it.
@@natekerx85 We stay at home because our paychecks are to small... been out 3 days this summer I've spent one month salary.
🤣🤣🤣
Best comment bro
Nice video! Great overview and the info all makes sense.
Little by little, your videos are changing my mentality in some positive way. Thank you! Keep up the great "work" you do!
The continued inspiration is soooooooo appreciated!!!
Keep going bro! Very quick and dirty, looking forward for your next costing video!
I’ve watched your videos before but this one made me subscribe. Thank you for such a well thought-out explanation and an honest video about costs of motorcycle long travel. Great point about the cost of taking an expensive bike to some parts of the world. Keep the coming. 👍
Hi Pedro!
Very good video!
I am very interested in investigating these aspects of the journey, especially the bureaucratic part.
Thank you!
Cheers, noted!
Nice video, thanks! It all depends on what you are leaving. If you have zero costs in your home country (like a house loan or something) it is not that difficult (financially) to make a bike trip. My wife and I drove 31000km through Europe and Central-Asia at a cost of 38 euro's a day, all included for both of us and the bike. (from food, to toothpaste, fuel, tires and nights...) It could have been even cheaper if we would have cared more.
How many days tho?
good info and well edited, keep on going! thank you!
Serously sick video man, loved it!
Man, he already became my favorite motorcycle traveler. I love it
Important and great information, thank you, Mr. Pedro Mota
Awesome tips buddy!!
Thanks for sharing \m/
Good intro and tips thanks, done some short trips, planning something bigger.
Awesome video, can`t wait to embark on a journey soon!
Great stuff man... So many variables its tuff to get a pin point number.. But this video provides a great baseline.. Would love to see you do a video on creating a off road route using bing maps. This is for sure something I'm not familiar with.. but love riding off road in my travels.
me too
Day 140...19 dollars per day so far... 25k kilometers #solo_wheels
Do you include all your expenses in that number? Ride on!
Pedro Mota yep.. Even cost of toothpaste bought... But I am riding in India 😬
India or not, that is impressive
60 days of ride in North East India cost me around 20_25 dollar a day
I just watched your video of The Meghalaya Expedition!! Very nice.
Great video on general costs, thanks!
Love the shows Pedro! Some nice ideas!
Very informative and hopefully helpful for next year - thanks.
Thank you so much Pedro for sharing your experience and insights!! much appreciated!
Absolutely incredible genuine calculation... Thank You Pedro...
So fun you are, thanks for all the tips! Cheers from Argentina (willing to travel by Moto in 2021)
Did you do it?!?
Were you able?
Wow man, this was such an eye opener! Please make another video, going in deeper!
Love it man. Hope to do something like that one day.
Great videos! Keep them coming. A more detailed video would be great. Cheers for the effort!
WOW what a great break down. Thanks Pedro.
Nice to hv you back. Tq for d travelling budget. Great info
Nice one Pedro, the last couple of years I've been touring Europe kipping beside the bike, either on the ground, or, in a hammock. When you ride until late in the evening, pitch and get up at dawn, you're never disturbed. Got by with motorway truck stops for showering when rivers/sea weren't available.
Muito bom, obrigado pela informação, já posso planear uma viagem!!
Thanks for the Bing Maps!! It really works
You should make a video depending on the continent, so you can be more specific with the details, costs and experience, thank you so much for your videos.
You’re talking on cost to travel was astounding. Now I don’t what to go far, thanks a lot. But good for you and good information it’s helpful always, thank you for your venue
Enjoyed the video! Keep it up :)
thanks for this video Pedro
Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I'm subscribing just because you are FN AWESOME. You're ALIVE. How old are you? Most of us are not living, we breathe, we eat, we move, but we are not ALIVE. Not like you are. Congrats and thank you for the videos, they're amazing. Shiny side up, bro!
*your estimates are pretty reasonable. Thing is, when a man(or woman) is adventurous enough to try this, they probably won't have that 10k laying around to do this. Plus cost of bike. I'd guess 25k or more to do this. Total. I think people should become extremely comfortable with their machine. Learn how to service it and learn how to troubleshoot. Being mechanically/electrically inclined is always a good thing!
Great thorough video. Thank you. Stay safe
Fascinating. Full of extremely useful info.
Some really useful info there,cheers
Thanks for the useful tips, great video young man.💪
Well now i know what am gonna face in the future, gonna be taxing, yup!😌😌😌
Great info Pedro!
thanks man..I know thgis was 4yrs ago, but it still gave me a ball park fiqure, followed by some of the comments here of others who did long trips..thanks
Good to hear that it still was still of use, happy trippin' mate
You are truly awesome! We get to learn because you take the time to explain & edit so that we can distill your experiences. Great guy, great job on the videos, & keep them coming. Frigin Germans, they're too good at everything.
Nice video! After years backpacking the world, im just starting planning my first motorcycle trip and had no idea where to start, your video is very helpful!
yeah biking the world is backpacking on steroids!
great video, well edited.
Super and helpful !Interestng !
Great tips! Thanks!
Helpful bro, very helpful video!!! Best regards from Serbia!
Nice Transalp .. Green ones are the best :D .. I had two of them
So... I was thinking, when the time comes, to buy a Transalp and head on south to morroco, meating the atlas brap brap on to the ferry to italy, up to the Alps and back west to Portugal.
Then I ran tru this vid, I'll just say thank you for strength and feeling you put in it so others can get the guts to actually go ahead and do a journey.
Will take some time, but it will happen eventually.
All the best on your Ride! Boas Curvas!
Good info, saw your vidz few years back. But I did comes back on your last video ...Your back and riding. That vid I saw you carrying to many IT gears, ditched the Canon and heavy laptop. Go Android, I use it for video editing too even on my smartphone.
Lyndon Poskitt from Adventurespec uses a Sony RX100 camera and Gopro for his round the world trip.
For Navigation try Android Locus Map, we had cyclist from France travel to visit us in Taiwan using Locus Map and Goggle Map, try it too long to explain using Locus Map.
Keep Riding Bro..Cheers
AWESOME! thank you.
Awesome information!!!
Thanks! Great video!
Brilliant Pedro, Been away myself so only just watched the last three, all were extremely helpful for the motorcycle traveller. Can I just chip in and say I was shocked at the water costs; I use a Steripen and more recently a Grayl... melted snow the other week for a brew :-) Ride safe
Usually water is 1 or 2 aud a pop, but in roadhouse country prices skyrocket so you get $5 water. Would too like to get something to purify water with at some point.
I'm not always certain the bottled water bought is good. I think the Grayl has been our favourite; the Steripen needs batteries and imo has been a bit fickle. We even use the Grayl on our Iceland trips to take out particles in suspension, as it's not just bacteria etc in the water that can get you. It's a water container too. Ride safe
I remember talking with a guy who did the world tour. As you say, numbers vary a lot depending on the assumptions. We got EUR 20-30K per year. Just adding our view here :-) thanks for sharing Pedro
Excellent video, man, thanks very much. I will rather depend on you videos than doing it myself.
Great video Pedro. You know that planning the roud on the map usually is different once you are riding, so could you record a video explaining the tools you use to orientate yourself on the road?
u wud have seen a magnetic compass just behind the windshield n then there are companies like garmin which sell map devices
Thanks for updates
Thanks for valuable information you shared. I was planning to ride to Mongolia with friends which postponed by pandemic. Sooner or later we do it!
Good info. Thanks very much.
Ótima dica sobre o Bing Maps, Pedro!!
Well done Pedro...!!
Good video. Came across your channel quite by chance. I like style of presentation. Pretty zany and interactive. How about fuel stops in the most remote places. How did you manage not running out of fuel.
...and this is how you talk without using "you guys" in every other sentence as the form of "you." Great job!
Great video Thank you
Real interesting quick and dirty calculations. Great video. World trip may be something I do in the future, but I am content to do trans-European city-to-city jaunts. Makes sense to buy a cheaper, reliable, smaller cc bike for the real long trips. So many GS textile warriors around Europe sipping cafe lattes :)
You're doing it man, and the cool thing about Europe is that a big chunk of the world is waiting there for you when you're ready.
Great video Pedro, very informative. Have done a trip through the America’s? If so how was it? Could you possibly do a video on it. I’ve been thinking of riding from the U.S. down to South America
wuuuhuuu you been in Slovenija (I can see Sairach sticker on your case) ps I live like 20min from sairach moto meeting place :) ! Ou and you made super videos haha :D
Really cool. Would be nice to see a more detailed video about the trip from EU to The East. :)
awesome dude!
Thank you so much for this quick and dirty calculation! :) *instaliked* *instasubscribed*
Couchsurfing is great way to save money in accommodation segment .
If you lucky, you also might get free food and guide to take you on city tour on his own car or motorbike :)
You also get to meet new folks with so many stories to share.
another video with. more information please real great video this perfect
like button smashed!
Just stumbled onto your videos. You sir are a badass!
quick 'n dirty works man. Thanks!
I did both island of New Zealand on a motorcycle while being on my working holiday visa. The best you can do is camp whenever and wherever you can. Saves you tons of money and it's quite an experience! Safe driving!
Great video thanks! Any video on tips for financing long term travel?
Congrats on hitting 20k my man!
Thanks my dude!
Brilliant thanks 😊
Good video 👍
Do another one, more specific on details pls ;)
thanks for this one
Hi Pedro, that was good and funny. No addictions if you want to travel cheap !! ...lol. thanks , Gus
It helps, certain did in Oz with laying of them ciggies, $20 a pack
Great video! I envy you man! What a life
Great videos! Love it. How about carnet de passage for Central/South America?
Surprisingly you don't need it. Paperwork has been very smooth and free so far in South America.
Would love to see a more precise video on an around the world trip on costs or at least web sites to use to calculate costs, things that are essential to take on trip at a minimum....Great vid by they way!! This would be more expensive for me living in Australia as I need to fly in and out.....
Hi pedro , thanks for your video ! Planning on hitting the road next year from Ireland with a hornet 900 possibly. Any tips? I'll probably try get to Australia and then see what happens if I keep going .
Any advice for me ? Etc.... I
I'm just in the early stages of planning
thnx for this quick and dirty vid. after a few europe rides, was this just the bump that i need :)
my overall plan(just a brainspin yet) first i start in europe, for the next 2 years, 6months work/travel. than after about 5 years i want to ride a rtw, maybe not original following the silkroad through the stans. at the moment i am looking for a bike. xtz750 or tdm 850 with offroad equipment. i will ride as basic as can be.
Super keen for you to go deeper into the numbers.
Noted!
Another fantastic video! Your a great speaker! Thank you for making this video. I now have a better excuse to quit my fatassness (not a word) and start saving and planing for my world trip. I can’t thank you enough for the tips. Cheers
Another good one mate. I was left thinking 'so what did it add up to??" I went back and listened again and got this
6 month trip across Europe and Asia, distance of about 20,000 kms. All in Euro
Per day costs add to 5100 but this low end could be higher say 5000 to 7500
Bike maintenance 500 to 1000 (choose a reliable bike!!)
Visas - you said about 60 average so lets say 10 countries, say 500 to 1000 total
Vaccinations say 500
Insurance..I would want a med-evac but other might not say 25 a week say 600 to 1000 for 6 months
Flight (you) and freight (bike) home, say 1500 to 2500, depends where you end up
Adds to 8,700 to 13,500. Roughly half fixed and half per day but you could maybe use 50c a kilometer to start with?
Or 50E a day? Sounds more than $19 a day but as you say, quick and dirty, you need to start somewhere.
Useful as comment Richard, cheers! Forgot to break it down like that in the end. I actually tell a lot of people who ask me about the cost for 6 months: Have at least 10K
Hello Pedro well now in Europe so do a trip her would be nice then go back to South America need the permit an the bike and gone
@@iPedroMota In my experience, travelling in Western Europe, 300 km a day, sleeping in a tent, not eating out, sums up to about €50 a day. Nearly half of that is for fuel. So being frugal in Western Europe on sleeping and eating also adds up to 10K for 6 months.
Staying in one country, like the USA, camping and not eating out can be done for much less. I'm doing 6 months on $2,500 dollars. It's all the b.s. government fees when crossing borders that steal your money.
Hey Pedro, great stuff. Really helpful. When it comes to water why not using a water filter ? This filter does all the bacteria and lasts for a 100k gallons of water. I have been using it in my travels and the water was perfect. My one year old was drinking tap water in Nepal using this filter. No issues.
what filter?
Also interested in what filter you used
yes what filter did u use?
