I try not to jump on board with all the Opie hate, but jesus christ he makes it difficult with lines like "When Marilyn Manson doesn't wear make-up, he looks like a normal dude!" I mean what did you expect him to look like, Opie? A pink flamingo?

I've been listening since like 2010 and I remember I first started to notice the difference when Opie took sick days. I'd be listening and laughing and loving the pace of the show and I'd realize that's why. Because it was Ant/Jimmy/Sam talking without Opie.

Agreed.its been 7 years and I still find myself listening to these o and a clips.it really was such a great radio show I always loved there Honesty and edgy humor unlike today's fuckin pc bullshit.

I can't fucking stand it when Opie goes Ughhhhhhhh Fred Savage or ughhhhhhhh Jimmy Norton. Anytime he makes that noise, It annoys me so damn much.
Oh god the punk rock episode of Quincy I've even seen that and I was born like 16 years and change after the show ended that episode was so fucking cringey.
Opie's response to everything is to ask in annoyance, 'why?'. And it's just a response/tick he does to be-little those around him, keep control over everyone while also making it seem like he's the coolest guy in the room. And I know it's just a response because sometimes the question of 'why' doesn't make sense, or the answer is so obviously, you come across looking like a dumba$$. So when he asks Sam, "Whhhhhhhyyyyyyyyy would you only washhhhh it as reeeeeruuuuuuuns."
He comes across looking dumb because Sam obviously wasn't old enough to watch it and says so in an 'Obviously this why...' kind of way.
And it's not entirely his fault. Hes obviously autistic and a narcissistic but just very high functioning. So it's kind of like getting mad at a kid who just desperately wants to be cool so he copies the rough around the edge kids to fit in. But at the same time, he's now become the bully with no strength to back it up. He's definitely one of the most hated people who gets hate from his own community.
Sam's laugh makes me stabby.

I just do not fucking get why so many people think Taxi was one of the funniest shows ever. Just because it had Andy Kaufman and you have to say he was a genius or else you don't "get it" ?
I even tried watching what everyone said was the best episode: Latka's Cookies. Every joke was so straight forward and predictable they all just bounced off me. Danny Devito says something sleazy. Christopher Lloyd goes bug eyed. Kaufman talks like a baby. It wasn't even a groundbreaking sitcom for the time like All in the Family.
It's just fucking Boomers who think everything from their generation was the best. I'm sorry, but all the classics like Cheers, M*A*S*H, and Taxi just don't hold a candle to 30 Rock, Community, or All in the Family.
+dorpth and in 25 years there'll be someone your age now saying the exact same thing about 30 Rock, Community and All in the Family, and you'll be explaining to them that they just don't "get it". :P
I don't doubt humor will evolve in 25 years, but I would be the last to deny it if something better came out. There's a ton of shows I loved back then but realized that they sucked now.
I could get into how the jokes are more intricate in modern shows, but suffice to say it can just be left at shows without laugh tracks are objectively funnier.

Yes, All in the Family was made in the 70s...and? So was Taxi. So was M*A*S*H.
Danny Devito plays the same character in everything. That character was better written and performed in everything after Taxi: Ruthless People, Twins, and finally honed to perfection in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. There is no way to deny that Always Sunny is objectively funnier than Taxi.
Two and a Half Men? That's not fair comparing the absolute worst of today with the best of the old days. There are a ton of great comedies from the past 5-10 years. Hollywood movies might blow right now, but television has never been better. There are at least 20 shows on right now with funnier jokes than "Clinger wears women's clothes!"
No child grew up loving M*A*S*H. Ask anyone in their 30s who was a child when that show was still on the air. They will all tell you how hearing that theme song sent them into panic mode because it meant their parents were taking over the TV for the rest of the night (news on right after) and fun time was over.
dorpth Trust us, in 25 yrs your sense of humor wil tell you that the t.v. sucks and I have a feeling you will have no problem letting people know. This doesn't hold a candle to community or 30 rock kids.
