    There's something deeply wise about this tune. But just one bit of context: I know a Serbian guy, mechanical engineer, whose first job out of university in the mid-eighties was for Yugo. He told me once: "Anyone can make a $100,000 Mercedes. Making a $5000 car - that took real engineering."

    • @philipeaston5465
      @philipeaston5465 Před 3 měsíci

      With all due respect, there wasn't any real engineering in a Yugo, other than the manufacturing. It was a brand new $5,000 "thousand dollar car."

    In Maryland, you only need to get a used car through inspection ONCE to get tags/title. No annual check, thank the automotive gods. Many, many years ago I drove three beaters I paid less than $1000 each for (two were rotary engine Mazdas that nobody else wanted--paid $750 for one and got two years out of it--only broke down once when I was too cheap to get a new battery. Paid $600 for the other, an automatic with working A/C(!). Sold it a year later for $500 after 'sinking' $150 into it to get it through inspection). Good times!

    Old cars are unique. It takes a long time to develop the patina.

    My husband bought a $300 Thunderbird, drove it for 3 years and sold it for $300. Damn, that thing was ugly!

    I adore this! Learning to play it on my new electric guitar, yay. I never thought I liked anything country-influenced but… I was wrong. Speaking of, why not check out I Was Wrong by Social Distortion? Or Ball & Chain? Similar vibes. Awesomeness!

    I've owned a thousand dollar truck. It was given to me for $0. I put $7500 into it to keep it running and sold it not running for $500 two years later. The initial purchase price should've been a clue.
