***SIDE FACTS***. The villain Dynamo was actually an Olympic wrestler and actually an opera singer with an I Q of 158. The muscle man who had the workout show. that was Jessy Ventura a former NAVY SEAL and he was Governor of Minnesota. The Game show host of Running Man was actually the Host of the TV show FAMILY FUED and former actor in the TV show HOGANS HEROS .
The "score some steroids" guy is Sven Ole-Thorsen, Arnold's buddy and Danish bodybuilder
He wasn't a navy seal. He claimed he was a frog man, which turned in to the seals later. But, no, he wasn't frog man either.
@@DrSpoculus he graduated as part of the underwater demolition team that became the navy seals
@@josephamesdacey6442 that's not a navy seal
Fireball…Jim Brown !
loved how this movie used so many icons in supporting roles...Mick Fleetwood, Dweezil Zappa, Jesse Ventura, Jim Brown, and of course, Richard Dawson
don't forget Paula Abdul (doing the dancing choergraphing), and Paul Micheal directing from Starky and Hutch.
Professor Tanaka for the old school wrestling fans!
Frank zappa had the craziest names for his kids I believe one of his kids he named moon unit.
@@micheletrainor1601 he definitely had a child named Moon Unit. I did a paper on Frank Zappa in college. What an icon!
@@tiffanycoates431 do u remember if he had 2 or 3 kids cause I can't remember if moon unit changed her name to Lala or if there was a 3rd child, it's one or the other. Crazy names but hey Frank was on his own planet.Great musician but very out there.
It's a shame that you two didn't grew up with Arnold, he is such an amazing, charismatic and likable character
This movie has great lines. Not as many as Commando, I think but one of the great 80s action flicks
They haven't done Commando yet. Super excited for it.
@shadowzone69 oh no lol
If they want they can switch it up with a more modern movie but Commando needs to be the next 80's movies in the Arnold line-up.
@@Skrubb_Lord Any of his family movies (Twins, Kindergarten Cop) would be good before Commando to finish off the Arnie trip for them.
This movie predicted the future. Today, reality shows are all anybody wants to watch.
And the media is controlled by the government and dissent is not tolerated.
2023 culture is a mix of The Running Man, Wall-E and Idiocracy.
@@BunnyGirl71 Don't forget demolition man.
@@midnighttoker9268 Yes, another predictor of our culture!
Yeah, but no one is killing each other on tv
One of my favorite Arnold movies. A really underrated movie that came out the same time as Predator and was overshadowed by Predator success. The movie is actually based on a Stephan King novel though the movie is ten times better than the book. You should see other great Arnold movies like End Of Days, The Sixth Day, Collateral Damage, Last action hero. Fyi the guy who plays Damon was actually a real game show host in real life. Also the dances were chronograph I think by Paula Abdul.
Fun Fact: When Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for governor, he rode around in a campaign bus and named it after this film.
Also, the big dance number at the start of "The Running Man" show was choreographed by Paula Abdul.
The Running Man is peak Arnie one-liner cheese. And I love it.
There's a number of Arnold's movies where he'd dropped these one-liners
Cant beat Arnold action in the 80’s
Bout damn TIME! This had some of the best one liners of all history lol
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Interesting fact. That bodyguard is a close friend of Arnie, who he used to train with. He also acted as the big retired gladiator who fought Maximus in Gladiator.
Yeah, Sven-Old Thorsen. He also played Thorgim (big hammer guy) in Conan the Barbarian and the Swedish gunfighter in The Quick and the Dead, among other roles.
Sven-Ole Thorsen is good friends with Arnie and has done fifteen movies with him.
"Don't touch that dial!" That was a common phrase back in the day telling the viewer not to change the channel, usually done during a bumper before the station would go to commercial.
Richard Dawson, host of the Running Man, was the original host of Family Feud. Prior to that, he was often seen on game shows as a celebrity guest (games shows were very popular in the 70s) and prior to game shows, he was the sitcom, Hogan's Heros.
i recommend you react to :
*Last Action Hero* (1993)
_Starring _*_Arnold Schwarzenegger_*
Underrated masterpiece!
So meta, so ahead of its time!
⬆️THIS⬆️
It was worth it for all of the easter eggs alone lol.
That line about media in control really hits home. And people do put their lives on line to do crazy stunts for us in today's world. In some ways chillingly close to today if you think about it. I loved this. It's 80s Arnold cheese all the way. Also this was based on a horror story by Stephen King. It was a mini story in one of his anthology books.
Arnold's next film after Predator (same year) and it looked like a much older film.
Based on an novella by Stephen King (under the penname Richard Bachman)
and considered one of his most beloved to hit the big screen.
Classic Arnold with his one liners and taking out bad guys.
The set-ups of every obstacle were a bit wacky and serious.
At the end of the day, it was more than just another action film.
It was an allegory about culture's obsession with an medium of entertainment
and those who take advantage of what's being seen or heard.
It did predict the climate of what reality tv would become in the 21st century.
Which is mindful and scary at the same time.
Either way, this one was pretty good.
@k.delpino1124 yes... He also wrote Thinner as Richard Bachman. I don't know if you've read it but if not...check it out I think you'll like it. #NYGenXBIKERLady
…not only reality tv but the media, how they can spin any event to fit their narrative and how masses believe and follow what they are spewing. Even though it’s not my favorite movie of Arnold’s it’s the one I watched the most. The vhs tape we had was bad in three spots and I forgot what was in those areas of the movie until I watched completely with a friend 20 years later, and he was like “ wtf is this?” I still love it!
You do know this is nothing like the book at all? It was a game show but the main character could go anywhere.
That's why the 80s and 90's had such good' movies, these still delivered messages, showed (future) dangers, teached morals etc.
My generation grew up in front of the TV and many shared these values', talked about it in school with friends, socialized.
Nowadays movies aren't really that educational' like they've been once, the entertainment factor became the main aspect, not an entertainingly wrapped' idea(l) or message'. -
I think that's why many millennials seem to really like these old' movies, they're telling more than the movies they've grown up with.
Can u do THE LAST ACTION HERO 🎬
"Killian, I'll be back. Only in a rerun." One of the best lines ever. This movie is based on a Stephen King novel. Please react to more Stephen King movies.
Apparently the guy playing Dynamo, Erland Van Lidth De Jeude, was born into a Dutch noble family but his parents moved to the US. He was also in Gene Wilder’s movie Stir Crazy.
Sadly he passed away before this movie and was released, and the day after his first wedding anniversary
Tbh my favorite Arnold quote of all time is , Killian: “ You bastard, Drop dead!” Arnold: “ I don’t do Requests “! 😂😂😂
Did you notice the director? Paul Michael Glaser who played Starsky in the 1970s tv series Starsky and Hutch. This was pre-The Hunger Games and Battle Royale. Richard Dawson who used to host Family Feud and met his future wife who was a contestant did a great job playing with type. The final guy Captain Freedom they want to send in was Jesse Ventura who used to be a WWE wrestler and former Gov. of Minnesota! Paula Abdul the singer directed the pre-game dance sequences. The guy who plays Fireball is former NFL champ Jim Brown. Musician Frank Zappa's son Dweezil plays Stevie and Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood/Mac plays Mic. Lots of great casting! Yaphet Kotto who had that explosive necklace taken off was in ALIEN.
I can't help myself but I love every single thing on this movie. It also predicted the dangers of media manipulation and deepfake technology.
The locksmith that removed the collar was Mick Fleetwood from the band Fleetwood Mac. They even call him Mick in this movie. 😎
Actually, you got it backwards - Mortal Kombat Sub Zero took the name from The Running Man's Sub Zero, because Boon and the team thought it was cool.
Interesting that Richard Dawson is basically playing the same role he did in real life. The host of Family Feud......but with out the killing.
Great reaction!! One of those films that is worth recovering, and moreover the message of the film is very current. If you want to see another film that deserves more attention, I recommend the ghost and the darkness, starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. It is based on a true story that happened in the late 1800s in Africa.
The Running Man with the late great OG family feud host Richard Dawson when he did this movie with Arnold this was 2 tears after the end of the original family feud run that ended in 1985 and 7 years away from making a comeback to host feud in September 1994 at the age of 62 for its final season of the shows 2nd run(1988-95)
You guys have to read the credits... this movie was directed by legendary actor Paul Michael Glaser !!!
Funny that this movie pre-dated Deepfakes.
But hell, it sure did perfect the use of the one-liner!!
Plot Analysis: Captain Freedom had it right near the end. He wasn't going to fight with the "tricks." We are led to think that it was because he wanted to fight honorably as a gladiator, but more likely he didn;t want to foolish gimmick to end up killing him. Look at all the other four stalkers. They were each killed by their own shtick. Sub Zero would never have been strangled if his own hocky stick hadn't severed the fence. Buzzsaw died to his own chainsaw. Dynamo died from getting electrocuted by his own suit. Fireball's fuel pack was ruptured and used to blow him up. Captain Freedom didn't want to give a single advantage to a very dangerous opponent.
I am REALLY looking forward to watching both your reactions to this movie. I saw this in the theatre with my own brother when it was initially released and we vowed beforehand to look at each other whenever Arnold shot out a super-lame one-liner. Needless to say, we exchanged a LOT of looks during that viewing. My best movie viewings have always been with my brother and that's why I love watching your content.
I was today years old when I realised that most millennials aren't aware that Arnie says the line "I'll be back" in every single one of his movies. Well, except for Hercules in New York but like, his voice is dubbed in that movie so it barely even counts as an Arnie movie :D
Interesting fact - The man who takes off the collars at the beginning is none other than MICK FLEETWOOD, the co-founder of the famous UK band Fleetwood Mac who were formed in 1967 and still going to the Present Day. Mind-blowing.
@Octokrool "Fireball" was NFL Hall Of Famer... Jim Brown !!!
Last Action Hero.
You love one liners? That movie is THE one liner Arnie movie!

The "don't touch that dial" was supposed to not be very menacing, it's just another sorta pun. Old TV shows in the era when the TV sets had dials, loved to go to commercial saying "don't touch that dial, we'll be right back!" So it was supposed to be a TV related one liner.
SO glad you watched this! Few things on Earth are as over-the-top-glorious as Schwarzenegger movies from the 80s. Watching you guys discover Arnold's movies is so much fun to watch!
The old guy named Mick is really Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac. His sidekick is Frank Zappa's son Dweezil.
Tell my lies tell me sweet little lies😂
Corney Arnold one-liners & Richard Dawson playing an A-hole?
How could you NOT enjoy this movie?
Interesting fact: The host is played by Richard Dawson, the original host of Family Feud.
"Don't touch that dial" was actually a very popular saying in the 80s.
Fun Fact for you, Chris and Curtis:
This movie was adapted from the book of the same title by Stephen King using the pen name of Richard Bachman
The movie deviated pretty heavily from the book, though
LOVED the part when he buries the pen in the guy's back. Rewound that scene dozens of times as a kid with my friends and we'd laugh our heads off.
The Host is Richard Dawson, former longtime host of The Family Feud and guest star on many TV shows of the 70's and 80's. I think this was his only major role in a feature film.
He was pretty good in Hogan's Heroes too.
@@justaguy6129 Yeah he was.
@@justaguy6129 As well on Match Game.
"Don't touch that dial" is a reference to what they would say before going to commercial, it means don't change the channel. Older TVs had dials to switch between channels.
This movie is the heaven of Arnie one liners.
Who would have thought that when this came out that Arnold's one liner after killing Subzero would be referenced in Mortal Kombat 11 decades later.
It's the modern version of gladiatorial games. This is Arnold's best movie for one liners, hands down.
This was one of my absolute favorite movies when I was a kid... before the Twister, The Matrix, and Men in Black existed.
Insanely cheesy but I love this flick. One of my 10 favorites of Arnold 80's cheese an all. An Richard D almost steals the show.... never knew family feud host could be such an amazing jerk*ff
'The Running Man' is in my top 5 Arnold movies of all time.
I love this movie and I never get tired watching it!!
I'd love you to react to another of my top Arnold movies called 'Commando' soon, stars a very young lady you might recognise. 😁
What are your top 5 ?

Total Recall,
Commando,
The Running Man,
The Terminator,
Last Action Hero.
Honourable Mentions;
Conan The Barbarian, Red Sonja, Twins, True Lies, End of Days
When it comes to movie puns? Nobody does it better than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Running Man is one of my favourite Arnie films.
The way Richard Dawson talks about the janitor mopping the floor, that’s how he is behind the scenes, he rules family feud with an iron fist, even though he saved the game show from ratings failure
OMG lol, they don't make movies like they used to :D Love these movies
man i love old arnald moives like this. watching him beat ass and shoot off on-liners never gets old.
Peak Arnold, establishing his reputation as king of the cheesy pun.
If you watch “Last Action Hero” i guarantee you’ll love the “meta” aspect. (before there was meta)
I sometimes forget how much fun the one-liners are in this movie. Also my brother and I recommend you guys check out The Warriors, you won't be disappointed in this classic!
A real classic Arnold movie. Nice 😎
Can ya’ll react to the Sherlock Holmes (2009) and its sequel, Game of Shadows?
This movie is KING of the Arnold one-liners! 😂
Love watching your reactions to these 80’s Arnold movies. I laughed at all the same spots when I first saw them back in the day. His one liners are the best.
1: Sad.
2: Angry.
3: Frightened.
Fear is the biggest way to control people hands-down.
Love this rad beast of a flick and SO glad you've finally got to enjoy it!
The 80's really knew how to make horrific concepts so much fun to watch. Massive shades of RoboCop all over this one. ICS could easily be an OCP subsidiary.
Thank you boys!💕
You're right, although considering the bulk of content in the media, I was expecting the third one to be "horny".
@@RichardX1 Ha!🤣🤣🤣
The whole "Don't touch that dial" line... you guys may be too young to remember but that was a tagline at the end credits of a show that I think NVC used to use to tell people to stay tuned for the next show coming up.
That exact line is also used in _Scrooged_ (also on this channel) when the guy with the shotgun bursts into the control booth near the end of the movie.
the ultimate in entertaining 80's schlock! I love this movie!
Awesome Movie and Work Guys, Thanks 👍👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
"It takes nothing to be happy. It takes something to be sad." Mooji.
Yes yall got to this legendary Arnie movie 🎬 🤣plain zero by far best line of the movie
Richard Dawson (Damon Killian) really did have a split personality. He was funny and witty and appeared nice on camera...iff camera, he could be a sutly, mezn cuss.
This movie just might be where the Fallout computer games got the idea of the slave/bomb collars.
LAST ACTION HERO
In the story this was based on, the competition was much larger: The 'man' could go anywhere in the United States, but had to send in a video segment of himself every day. The public was offered cash rewards for killing him. If he lasted for 30 days, he'd 'win' a whole lot of cash. The ending is... Something that I can't imagine they'd translate into a movie right now if they still wanted the 'man' to be considered a good guy.
I used to GAF about King's opinion....Until I realized that I didn't like anything he wrote after his coke-head days (which ended around 1987) and then also because I realized how insufferably political he's gotten since the 90's.
Too bad Robert Sheckley had beaten him to the plot with his 1960's novel 'The Prize of Peril' which was adapted as a 1970 German television film 'Das Millionenspiel' and a 1983 French film, 'Le Prix du Danger'.
Don't touch that dial was a great line because that was something stations would say before going to commercial break. "Don't touch that dial, The Running Man will be right back"
ypu , back in the day when TV's actually had dials to change channels.
When they were thinking of the next running man, “we never get military prisoners”, and now you know why.
Jesse Ventura probably would’ve made an excellent gladiator if this actually existed. He was a Navy Seal in real life.
...and he is quite crazy too, so he would fit right in lol.
One of my favorite Arnie movies. Glad you guys liked it!
The opening scene is supposed to take place in Bakersfield, California, which is my home city
This is the best 'I'll be back' in arnies films especially with the repost of 'only in a re-run' cheesy but cool running man is one of arnies best movies.
Reminds me of the media from 2015-now. Agreed on tiktok bro
26:20. "Don't touch that dial" was dweezils catch phrase on MTV. Don't touch that dial. I spat on it.
Two Governors in a movie, Jesse Ventura of Minnesota and of course Arnold Schwarzenegger of California!
Bro has the Brand of Sacrifice on his hat. Good shit. Struggle on my dude.
Jesse Ventura is fantastic in this movie. This and Predator.
Also, keeping with the pro wrestling theme, Sub Zero is played by late wrestler Professor Toru Tanaka.
....and this is where the character Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat got his name.
For those not familiar, Richard Dawson, who played Killian, was the original host of "Family Feud" from 1976 to 1985. I believe this was the last thing he appeared in between 1985 and an unsuccessful comeback to the Feud in 1994.
Richard Dawson was also a regular on the game show Match Game in the 70's. (A game show where contestants would have to match answers with the celebrity panel)
Great reaction guys. This film was based on a book by Richard Bachman, which is Stephen King's pseudonym. The book is not much like the film and in the book the hero dies in the end.
One of the earliest Schwarzenegger films where he started busting out one liners
“They made him look like a villain thru the power of editing”
At least this is only a movie and that would never happen in real life.
This is the most Arnold movie ever.
Marvel and DC are indebted to "Running Man", it's basically a superhero origin story minus the sequels
In the book they also had a game on the network called Treadmill for Bucks but the contestants were all chosen because they had heart conditions and would probably die
You guys seen Predator and Alien? Cause Yaphet Kotto who plays Arnold's friend Laughlin is also in Alien. And Captain Freedom is played by Jesse Ventura, whose also with Arnold in Predator. Not sure you guys watch wrestling at all, but Jesse Ventura was a famous wrestler, and the actor who played Sub Zero was also a wrestler. And the actor who played Sven was a friend of Arnold's who also appears in Conan The Barbarian. If you ever want to check out some older films that are similar to Running Man, there's an Italian movie from 1983 called Endgame and a French film also from '83 called The Prize Of Peril. And oddly Running Man is based on a Richard Bachman (whose actually Stephen King) novel which I've read and is very different from the film. Just found your channel with this video by the way, I grew up on this film, one of Arnold's best. Oh, and the Running Man host is Richard Dawson, who was the real life game show host of Family Feud in the 70/80s.
This originally was a Stephen King novel under his pen name Richard Bachman
The only thing funnier than Arnold’s puns is seeing other people laugh hysterically at his puns. 😂
There is something about this movie that scares the hell out of me. You know how they manipulated what we see and hear in the footage? Getting the masses to feel one way or another about him? Well they can actually do that now.
Mick is Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac.
Robocop 2 is definitely worth a watch. Might be better than part 1 but definitely just as good.
If you guys like Arnold's one-liners, you should check out the metal band Austrian Death Machine.
I always wanted to go on that slide as a kid 😅
this imo is the best 80’s Schwarzenegger film! it’s a bit over the top! but, the social commentary is simply brilliant (and very honest) Stephen King’s book is a completely different animal…. Paul Michael Glaser (films director) had the impossible task to adapted a Stephen King story into a sci-fi/action hybrid big budget 80’s film…. There’s been rumors of a re-make for a good 15yrs (The Running Man film was also a huge inspiration for Midway’s Smash tv (1990) which was a huge Arcade hit for the entire 90’s 👍👍👍
and to further tie it into videogames, this is where the character Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat got his name.
Maria Cochita Alonso was my 80s crush. Moscow on Hudson, The Running Man and Vampire's Kiss were the movies she shined in.
You guys have to watch "Commando". It's THE BEST!!!
