Cam is a great guy, we talked for hours before i bought the product , because he wanted to make sure thats what i actually needed instead of just selling me a product. He also walked me through removing , checking and replacing my glow plugs.
When I got my humvee all the glowplugs were smoked, I suspected the smart box. Did what others have done bypassing the box. Bought a $10 in dash momentary switch, $20 solinoid and a new glow plug harness $30. The new harness isn't necessary though. Now I can have control how long I want the glow plugs to activate for. I hate failing electronics and their prices.
Two years later this unit costs around $900 with the optional key lockout and the remote harness. I would like to see what’s inside. For that money. I do know that those two cannon connectors can set you back about two hundred dollars. What’s the rest? A 24 volt solenoid, about $30 each. And?………
This is cool and all, but there's a simple fix that I did on mine. All it requires is running a small wire from the rear battery (so you only get 12V). Drill a small hole somewhere on your dash for a momentary switch from Amazon for $10. Wire it to the relay on the far right....that's the one that powers the the plugs. I have a relay added as well so the switch ONLY has power when the main hmmwv switch is flipped to run. Also too, my momentary switch has a halo light on it and it only comes on when the vehicle is in the run position. That way you know it's powered up. Plus you easily hear the big relay power up. I was writing this as was watching this video. He gets to the part of the parts that came with the system. This is literally exactly what I was already saying can be done with some wire and a momentary switch and a relay lol. Ah interesting.....I like the extra touch of the glow plug light coming on when the switch is pressed.

So far I just press record and go for it, but once I start overlanding then I'm going to have to do a WHOLE LOT of editing and try my best to make great videos
I used to be in the Army, and my boss also used to be in the Army. We were both mechanics. He told me just today that it doesn't matter how the glow plugs were wired. According to the manual, it did matter. Keeping in mind that this was 1990 , when I was working on HUMMWV's. Is it true that it doesn't matter?
Sir, no wait light, new batteries, new plugs. Engine does not attempt to turn over. No click or clunk when start switch engaged. I’m sorry to bother, but thought you or someone could point me in direction

All the electronics you took out has what is called a load dump circuit, idk about that set up. 😬 notice how the humvee doesn't have any small fuses anywhere? I use to retrofit a gpc timer service on fleebay until they wanted to report sales to irs. Let's hope a wire never shorts out. 🔥

What if you accidentally and leave the switch on?
@@hummerguy You can't if you use a momentary switch. They are designed for this purpose.
YOU need to hold the button for 5-9 seconds depending on how cold it is, i have this box mine was a beta pre production and works great

Does it stay some what heated in the winter with the soft top and soft doors?
So will this unit solve cold starts ? My truck hates winter without a block heater.
