    Thanks for running these down--love the side-by-side comparison with your actual voice, but I think it would helpful to give us like a second to just listen to the signal so we can hear the noise floor by itself.

  • @wootoots
    @wootoots Před 2 lety +47

    Just my 2 cents. I think the interfaces featured don't compare well with each other as their pricing is all over the place. for example, why compare a volt 1 at $139 to a minifuse 1 and komplete audio 1 when the minifuse 2 and audio 2 are the ones that compete with that in the pricing segment. then a $180 tascam gets a mention that is in another pricing segmant which now competes with a scarlett 2i2. my suggestion is, make it consistent to your title. "best $100" means pricing is expected to be very close to 100. this video's title would fit better with "best under $200" in my opinion.

    From past experience I had with Tascam, I think I will stick to work with that brand, I really need an interface upgrade since my old US144 no longer works on recent OS (it worked great for the past 13 years! Great Quality) but for me it's important to have midi inputs, thank you for making this video, it helped me a lot.

    I have two Scarlett Focusrite cards on my media computers. One is an older one 2 inputs 6 outputs [incl RCA] that I use to power my HIFI and the other is 2 in / 2 out - this one is a newer model and it feeds the audio to two Yamaha HS8 active speakers that I use in my living room. I'm super satisfied with both. I never used any plugins on either because I use plugins only in my studio where I use a RME core card with a RME converter but I have a feeling that they're probably pretty solid! I can totally imagine running a project studio on this card. It is also super awesome for stuff like podcasting etc where you don't need to buy and mic preamps because mine have 2 built into them. I've never used them, but they're probably ok.

    My first real interface +10 years ago was some earlier version of this Tascam. I have fond memories and find the preamp to sound pretty sweet and vibey, Would definitely recommend it. Now I run RME Babyface Pro FS and before that Focusrite Saffire pro 40. Tascam definitely sounded better to me than my previous interface by Focusrite.

    I rarely subscribe - but you are now one of them. Great job. I agree with you, the Volt 1 sounds best (couldn't tell until high quality headphones used and then it was quite obvious with lack of clarity and/or hiss), closely followed by the Presonus (imho). Pity there are so few inputs on the Volt 1, so for me it comes down to the Volt 2 if I can find it within budget or the Presonus Studio 24c if not and grit my teeth every time I have to unplug the headphones (what were they thinking?).

    Hi, first of all I wanted to congratulate you on your videos.... Really interesting, well done and educational.
    My need is for live use with my band. 20 years ago I was using a pc with a m audio firewire 410 with which I used to manage stereo backing tracks, drummer clicks + vst instruments played live, all driven by cubase.
    Now it's been 20 years (in which I've been away from gigs) and I'm undecided on what to buy.
    I have 3 macbook pro's at home so I could use one of them for audio.
    I don't need to record: I just want to be able to manage backing tracks and simultaneously play vst instruments live (using main stage or gig performer or something... I'll have to look into that too).
    So I'll need at least 4 outputs (using the backing tracks in mono on one channel and the click on another channel + 2 stereo channels for vst).
    The idea is to get a soundcard that I can then also use in the future if I decide to switch to ipad (to lighten up the equipment).
    I also need to connect at least two keyboards via midi, and this I could do by adding a usb hub.
    I also need traditional midi inputs because I have an old keyboard that doesn't send control changes via USB but only via the midi outputs (although I could probably use a midi to USB cable).
    Currently what sound cards do you feel like recommending for the use I need?
    Thanks in advance

    • @EdwardSmithMusic
      @EdwardSmithMusic  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thank you for watching my videos! I think the Presonus Audio Box USB 96 is a great interface for what you need. It is an older model, but for the price it offers everything you are looking for except iPad compatibility. To be honest, I would stick to using a laptop for what you are trying to do. It might be a little bigger and heavier than an iPad, but for running music production software and multiple VST instrument plugins, a laptop is much better.

    • @giacomocagnetti2529
      @giacomocagnetti2529 Před 10 měsíci

      @@EdwardSmithMusic but it has only 2 outputs... Not good to handle vst (need 2 outputs for stereo) and backing tracks (1 track for the track and the other for the click). Isn't it?

    • @emergingloki
      @emergingloki Před 2 lety +1

      It's rock solid. The Midas pre-amps are very quiet, it's got a huge feature list for the price. Can't remember if it comes bundled with software but I use mine with Audacity so not a problem.
      If you don't need the multiple output options the 202 has basically the same feature set. If you just need something basic the umc22 is dirt cheap and a solid performer. I upgraded to the 204 from one of these. It only records to 16bit though if that's important to you.
      Don't cheap out and look at the um2, it uses a different noiser preamp and is all plastic, ugh.
      Look up Julian Krause on CZcams for some good but tech heavy reviews of the behringers.

    One missing that should have been included as one of the newest and definitely best value Audiobox Go. Also the popular Audiobox 96 is still a under $100 interface making it still very popular relative to the 24C and it's built like a brick house as well .

    I need a little clarity on my situation, I don't have studio monitors, so I I'm planning to use my AKG K361 headphones (32 Ohm) as output. Will this be enough to get a decent sound considering that the Presonus 24c has a high output impedance (22,2 Ohm) and 51,2 mW output power into 32 Ohm ?
    Or maybe I need another audio interface with a lower output impedance like focusrite solo or 2i2 ( 0,32 Ohm output impedance and 32 mW output power into 32 Ohm ) ?

  • @Fessant
    @Fessant Před rokem +2

    Hmmm.
    Tascam and Arturia have the noise during the whole record. ART USB i hear a noise coding issue at the end of the record and a bit during the whole record. Volt and Scarlet have a bit of noise during the record too. Especially Scarlet becomes noisier with the AIR mode. NE Komplete is clicking. Audient Evo sounds good but i sense some kind of noise reduction which lowers overall quality.
    As for me the great and clear sound has ONYX. M-Audio is a bit better than ONYX due to i hear more of a low register.

    Hello. I will use it to record podcasts and use it live. I have two options that I can use with a good microphone: SM7B or EV RE20. It should also be able to play these microphones without any problems. I have used SLL+ before and the sm7b microphone was playing without any problems. I want a sound card suitable for my intended use, but I do not want to make unnecessary expenses. If there is a sound card that you can definitely recommend buying this model, I will buy it, no problem. While I'm at it, I want to buy a good product. I hope I could explain myself. I expect your help in this regard.

    Funny I actually thought the Evo 4 had the best looks, sound and features. Very warm-sounding, low noise preamps compared to the universal audio. The UA preamp is very bright, borderline harsh in the top end. The Tascam, Art, and Arturia audio interfaces are extremely noisy, I wouldn't get those. The Mackie Onyx surprised me, it sounds really good and has low preamp noise. The M-Audio sounds pretty good, the PreSonus is nothing special in terms of sound quality. The Native Instruments Interface sounds pretty good.
    Here's how I'm ranking them:
    1. Evo 4 (the features/sound/design)
    2. Mackie Onyx (sounds good)
    3. Native Instruments/Focusrite Scarlett (couldn't choose, they're both great!)
    4. M-Audio Air
    5. Universal Audio Volt (too bright)
    6. Art Pre USB
    7. Presonus Studio 24c
    8. Arturia Minifuse

    PLEASE RESPOND TO MY QUESTION
    I’m getting into producing and can’t figure this out. I have two usb plugs on my computer so: Can I plug my keyboard by usb to my computer and then plug my microphone to my audio interface and plug this audio interface to the other usb plug of my computer and make them all work at the same time? Sorry for the weird sentence English is not my forte.

    • @SaltSpirits

      Yeah, this should work. Just ensure everything is set up in your daw settings too. If your interface has a USB pass through you could also use that for your midi keyboard.

    Same thing with the komplete audio interface there is a 2 xlr input option costing (140)
    Same thing with the Scarlett interface there there is a 2 xlr input option costing (180)

    Hi.
    Can i use this focusrite for concert? I want more or less decent sound, better than default laptop audio out. Also sound recording.
    I want this: laptop -> focusrite -> audio mixing console (f.e. Yamaga MX12) -> speakers (800wt).
    Which outputs to use: front side single TRS out or back side stereo pair outputs?
    Also was wondering which audiocard is better: focusrite or Audioquest Dragonfly DAC?
    Thank you very much

    The last option for me is the komplete audio, seems very old, totally made in plastic and with the poorest tech specs. Native instruments really need to create a better audio interface to compete with the others, I'm pretty sure they can do something really really great!

    half of these had pretty noisy preamps, I was very impressed with the volt, it had a little noise floor but was very pleasant, But the Mackie was insanely clean and pretty pleasant, The Evo 4 was also amazing with almost a silent noise floor. The Native instrument was pretty good but sounded a little fuzzy to me in the voice which I thought was strange. Tascam was really noisy, so was the mini fuze 1. The presonus just sounded nasally. The M-Audio was pretty good too. I keep listening to this over and over with my Beyerdynamic DT 177X plugged into the THX 789 at a higher than average volume. And I feel like if I was going to make a purchase out of this list I would buy the Mackie just based on the very clear and pleasant sound. Thank you for the video.
