    I love this, I got my daughter some Barbies recently and was surprised by how expensive the clothes were and they are not that nice. I am going to have a go at making some cute dresses, I will definitely be adding some lace trim and tiny buttons as well. You explained each step really well. Thank you.

    My mother bought home-fashioned Barbie clothes for us made by a coworker back in the 1960's. I still have them and they were fashionable--so much nicer than the stuff they sold for Barbie. I believe she used tiny snaps for closures.

    Thank-you for showing this book. I have made Barbie clothes on my machine before. I would recommend sewing the bodice topstitching and most of the skirt hem before gathering the skirt or sewing the pieces together. It is much easier while still flat, particularly if you are still a learner. I would also sew the back seam of the skirt before adding the velcro, but that is just my choice. I will have to try getting this book at the bookshop, I cannot buy things online.

    My question is in the reverse.
    How can a I (or any skilled sewer) recreate Barbie's outfits to fit an average size adult
    So a very real average size female human being can wear the exact(ish) same outfit as Barbie.
    It is my observation that many of Barbie's outfits are more stylish than any human female.

    • @SearchPress
      @SearchPress  Před 3 lety

      I put it to Debbie and here's the advice she has for us! 'I'm afraid I don't think Barbie's clothes would be suitable for re-sizing to a human, if they were I would have no idea where to start! But I'm sure there are some stylish patterns for full-sized women out there somewhere!'

    I am confused with the top of "a night in town'. Why is the ribbon around her neck what has to go on the top arm ends missing in pattern and discription? How would you manage?

    • @SearchPress
      @SearchPress  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for your comment.
      In the "A Night in Town" outfit, a 10cm (4in) piece of silver piping ribbon is attached to the upper edge of the top, with 1cm (½in) wide armholes left below the halterneck on each side. So, the piping ribbon, which goes around the Barbie's neck, connects the front and the back of the top.
      I hope that helps, if you need any further details please do get in contact with us.

    I find my sewing machine swollows up small pieces of fabric and gets jammed. Do you have any advice for that? Wast the small square of fabric you used supposed to stop that?

    • @SearchPress
      @SearchPress  Před 2 lety +1

      Debbie uses a small piece of tear-away stabiliser under the start of the seam to prevent the fabric from getting caught up in the feed dogs, or try holding onto the threads at the back of the needle as you start sewing, that should work!

      Very often with narrow seam allowances, a machine will suck the fabric into the needle plate, causing a jam. if you start on a wider piece of scrap fabric, it keeps that from happening.

    This whole video made me cringe. NO pressing, sloppy sewing technique, almost no use of markings to line things up...You should be pressing as you go after every seam for one thing.
    Most of your seams are sewn in the wrong direction... that is NOT the correct way to make a circular hem either.
