Well done Olha. Seeing all the detailed rigging makes me wonder how men sailed these ships
on the high seas and especially in foul weather, this model is a tribute to them in a way.
Thank you!
Yes, your truth!
Olha, you definitely earned those awards, especially for a first build! And this ship definitely deserves its place in the glass case too!
Thank you very much!
Ooo this ship has a wonderful glass display-case)))

Wow, thanks!
This was my first model also and the one responsible for my addiction ! Amazing work !!!
Thank You very much!
incredible ❤️⛵️
Thank you!
Your first was an all wood, rib on plank constructed, Galleon. You really know how to challenge your building skills don't you. The rigging below the royals alone are a fine piece of workmanship. Now I know why the crews were enormous after seeing the job you did with all her sails placed. Daunting task to make it as authentic as possible. Its really breathtaking young lady.
Thank you! For such kind words. It inspires to work further ...
@@OlhaBatchvarov I've seen some museum pieces that can't rival the workmanship in just this one scale ship. Totally remarkable my friend. I'm awed to say the least.

Very well done

Hi Olha, great first build! As a suggestion (you may be already doing this) draw the threads through beeswax, this will help keep their shape as you coil them and also eliminate the "fuzz" on the thread as well as prolonging the life of the thread, synthetics will break down and cotton will eventually fall apart. When can we expect another episode of the Ragusian Carrack?
I am currently on vacation and will be able to return to work on the Carrack only in October - so it will be continued in mid-October...
P.S. On my first model, I used a lighter because there were very fuzz cotton threads - firing made them more suitable for rigging...
Olha, in the model ship building group, you are TOPS! and it is very nice to see your first build. You accomplished a treasure-trove of great skills in that 3 1/2 years. And you serve as a great inspiration to others. I built replicas of muzzle-loading firearms, period 1740-1820, although I do have a few original smoothbores from England, built in the 1850's. Were I not so involved in that, I would love to revert to my early years, and the boats and such that I built then. Never have tried a model, but would surely love to. Maybe when I finish one or two of the three firearms currently under construction.
WOW - this is very interesting! Do you know that there are modelers who build models of ships with working guns and arrange a real sea battle on the water. True, they shoot some "toothpicks" so as not to damage the models)))
@@OlhaBatchvarov - That is too cool! I have a small, stainless steel crossbow that shoots toothpicks. From 20' or so, they stick in a cloth bag. Perhaps for a pre-gun powder boat? Of course, my muzzle loaders will reach out and touch at about 500 yards or so, so they are definitely NOT suitable for sea battles. And an engineer friend out on the west coast has actually built - and fires - a 12-pounder cannon. He uses cast zinc cannon balls, and recovers them.
Beautiful galleon! I'm halfway building La Couronne, and HMS Sovereign of the Seas is next.

How on earth do you get all the knots so tight in the lines ? Great job !!!!

I have made model ships for over 70 years . But for your first model you have done exceptionally well , congratulations ! If you wish to have your rigging black . You may paint it matt black on the model . This would saving doing all the rope work again . But put paper behind where you are painting so it does not go other parts . Only the standing rigging would be tared on the real ships . The ropes that moved , such as to alter the sails or haul them up would not have tar on them .
This is a special model - just because she looks like that - she makes me smile!
Google translate also did an exceptional job here.
👏👏👏
May I ask how long this took you to build? Its truly amazing work!
I built this ship in 3,5 years without any similar experience before!.
An magnificent construction of a very beautiful ship!!! I have the same but not finished. What book/books did you use as source for the rigging??? Thank you very much for all these videos!!!
Thank you very much!
My main book was The Rigging of Ships in the days of the Spritsail Topmast (1600-1720) by R. C. Anderson
It is in my video library under number 65
@@OlhaBatchvarov Again Thank you very very much!!!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Well done Olha! Three and a half years is normal for a project like this one. You did very well, especially for a starter in this business.......excellent work. I have one objection, though, and that doesn't concern you at all, but deAgostini: this cannot be a 1668 ship. The shape of the high, narrow stern and the low, straight gallion reminds me of a 1580-1610 ship. Fifty years later the stern used to be far lower and wider and the gallion higher and curved upwards. Compare the paintings of Dutch painters Hendrick Cornelisz. Vroom (1566-1640) and Willem van der Velde junior (1633-1707) and the differences between the ships will be very clear!
Thank you very much!
Yes you are absolutely right but then it was for me the perfect galleon and first experience. Then later with experience and research I learned about these historical facts ...
Super, greetings from Poland. But very expensive.
Thank you!
Yes,yes,yes!!💙💛
Hi, Olha. Do you have any video about installing lighting on naval models? thanks!

very nie job do you happen to have the measuments of the wooden parts of 1st 5th and 6th magazines or any info where i could find them
This magazine was published 10 years ago - I'm not sure it can be found anywhere else officially. Sometimes I see some magazines or the whole collection on ebay, but this should be constantly checked...
I love what you are doing but that music is so intense.
Olya, please:
What are the standard scales for ship models? What is the wood you use? Balsa or other? Are the wood supply standard or you have to cut everything in the size? Where you take the dimensions for historic ships?
In your opinion, why the hull is usually curved instead of flat alongside the ships?
Thank you, congrats from Brazil: you do a beautiful work!
Thank you!
There is no such rule that models should only be of specific scales. There was a period in history when models could be built according to the size of a niche in the wall or between the columns... It was later that the British somewhat systematized them and they are still popular among modelers (1:24, 1:48, 1:72, 1:96. ..)
Likewise, wood for any taste of the modeler. I prefer the classic fruit woods and boxwood... Books and blueprints - you can always find something at the local modelers' stores but ebay and amazon, no one canceled...
There are ships with a flat bottom as well, such as river ships. And for ocean-going ships, it is better to have a larger draft for the stability of the ship and, of course, the lines of the ship significantly affect the speed...
P.S. Also watch my video with the frequently asked questions (FAQ) on the main page of the channel - you will be interested...
@@OlhaBatchvarov sorry, I said hull but I meant DECK.
Convex cross side I understand as water drainage, but concave long side I tought about the oscilations up and down the waves... but when it's good in one side, it's worst on the other.
Thank you for the response.
What a fine build Model all the Details absolut amazing.

A most beautiful model. I am particularly interested in where you took the wiring into the ship. From the video, it appears that you took the wiring up through the hull rather than the keel. Is this right?
Stephen Walters

Thank you!
Electric contacts are installed in the keel. When the model is placed in the stand the lights are turned on; when removed, the chain is broken and the lights turned off. The stand contains a power source for connecting to 220 V electric set.

My first ship was the Charles W Morgan.
WOW! Good ship - I was recently aboard at the Mystic Seaport museum in Mystic, Connecticut...
I'm on my first ship. I chose the Albatross Schooner by OcCre. And for your first ship you do a bloody big Galleon. 🤣🤣
I've even been showing clips of your videos to people at work and saying how amazing they are. I've run out of Carrack videos and looking for more. Are there other ship building CZcamsrs that you watch or would recommend?
Thank you very much!
I am currently working on Carrack but the video will probably be next Friday!
Sometimes large models are easier to build than small ones, although there is more work to be done...
@@OlhaBatchvarov Well, I'm not brave enough to start that big. I think the other obstacle with first ship is cost. I'm less worried about messing up a smaller/cheaper ship than I am a more expensive one. lol. I'm from New Zealand so once finished the Albatross I hope to go bigger and do Captain Cook's Endevour. I've also seen a Chinese Black Pearl kit which looks amazing, with furnished interiors and lighting kits as well. But I'm not sure what the quality of that kind of kit will be. I know OcCre are good, so I'm trying to stick with them at the moment.
But anyway, loving your videos and learning a lot from them. I'll certainly keep watching. Also waiting for the next Confederacy ship video to come out. How many ships do you work on at one time? It seems most people prefer to work on only one at a time. But I can see how working on multiple could help since you often have hours to wait for glue to dry.
Hi, how did exactly you linked the electricity system from the ship to the stand?
There were a metal plates on the keel and electrical contacts on the stand...
