Advanced tips for drawing in perspective you rarely find on youtube

- There are hundres of videos out there which cover some basics, but If you' re really interested in more advanced tips and methods, I 'd suggest you to check this out. I' m aware that many designers already know these principles, I'm not PRO at this, definitely not... this is just a little demonstration that goes beyond the basics.
It's so frustrating when you're a beginner and you need to rotate a box for the first time but every single video you click on just explains one, two, and three point perspective in basic terms and ends it there as if to imply that there would never be any reason to define a new set of vanishing points in the same scene. They just don't tell you, and although I realize that many of these videos are made for beginners and are trying to minimize needless confusion by leaving out complexities, it actually just led me to way more confusion down the line! I spent a year or so struggling with perspective until i finally figured out that you can use both one and two point perspective in the same scene or that there can be infinite sets of two point perspective vanishing points in the same scene along the same horizon line used to rotate a box to any angle. And that's not even to mention the way that beginner perspective videos approach the horizon line, which I only somewhat recently came to understand refers to eye-level (or the level of the "camera" in the scene), and will not always align with the horizon in every drawing!
I really appreciate videos like this one that highlight the nuances of perspective rather than trying to give beginners the simplest tools possible to technically get the job done. I want to understand perspective fully so i can utilize it to its fullest potential, but when you type "perspective tutorial" into youtube, all of the top videos explain nothing more than the bare basics and I was almost convinced that I just needed to learn to freehand a box if its rotation didn't align with my two point perspective scene. I think a lot of this is a result of the fact that videos purported to help "beginners" will always do the best on youtube. Anybody who wants to learn how to draw will need to watch a basic perspective tutorial, but most people will quit art before they get to the point of needing an intermediate tutorial, and as a result every art channel posts a beginner's tutorial but very few artists follow it up with an intermediate or advanced tutorial. And all of this kind of makes it really hard to find intermediate perspective tutorials for anyone who does end up wanting to dive deeper.
All this to say that I'm very glad there are videos like this one out there for people who need a bit more info on the specifics. Thank you!
I'm really glad if this helps. You're welcome! 🙂
Exactly ! I was so confused as a beginner when I starded to use real life references, I didn't understand why there was 5 or 6 vanishing points ! I felt like those beginner videos were lying to me..
I'm so grateful to finally understand what's going on !
I’m a beginner too, just started taking perspective seriously and shit it’s hard! But it’s useful and I’m trying to digest it one bite at an time
my thoughts as well, this video confirmed my suspicions that there's no such thing as a reality with only one vanishing point - I never realized that was just meant to be a beginner exercise and I've been confused my whole life
Great video. The key is to know which vanishing point to move in order to rotate objects in desired way.
Yes. 😂
I've joined a beginners art class (I'm 53) and we learned this last week and I can remember learning this at school and I've fallen back in love with it. Not fully confident yet, but I'm eager...x
The hell? That makes so much sense. It just works.
I hope beginners continue to find this video as people of all levels of expertise can learn from this
I typed in "intermediate prospective drawing tip" and you your video first. This is the higher level stuff I needed!!! I'm gonna save this video and keep referring to it so I can also do what you've done. Thank you!
I'm really glad it helps!!
I've been looking for tips like that, that focus on object positions not conformed with the horizon and VPs where everything else converges.. like tilted roofs, or a human figure with one hand for example is raised god knows where..etc. i subscribed, i hope you keep clarifying more of those interesting points.. thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for subscribing. Unfortunately, I won't be focusing on this topic now. I'll be creating and posting short animations from now on, so it's up to you whether you find it interesting. I'm glad if this helped you.
This is just a little demonstration that goes beyond the basics. If I made a mistake somewhere, please don't hesitate to leave a comment. Merry Christmas and stay awesome! :-D
This is amazing, always looking on how to rotate the box, finally man finally GG, thank you so much.. good luck to you man.
@@marchelia_ameria I'm really glad if it helps!
I just faced this Great Unknown in an animation I’m still working on: a crate hurtling through the air, obviouly turning as it does so.
Wow. I was stumped. My brain couldn’t process it - I thought it was because it was 2:00 in the morning and I was overtired.
Thank you. I’m going to have to watch this several times…
i clicked because of the thumbnail and i stayed and watch the whole video because of the great knowledge you share.
AWW!! Thanks a lot!!!
Is this nightmare fuel? Yes. But is this a really useful and well made video? Also yes! Thank you for the tips!
It's been a while since I got the opportunity to learn so much in so little time. Thanks man!
Glad i found this!
Despite being already pretty experienced in art, rotations and inclines all make my brain go *poof*, so thanks for making it easier to understand!
My dude, you're a legend
Great Vid. My sketch level brain is melting XD.
😃😆 glad you enjoyed it
Short and simple and VERY informative. Thanks
This Knowledge of perspective is really good! I will try aplicate this method.
so underrated
this is a very good topic
Thank you! 😊
THIS video needs more likes! :D
It was really useful: I didn't know the tips yet :)
Today I made the decision to trim my locks, but after watching this video, I've resolved to never snip my hair again! 😂
:-D :-D
really helped me understand perspective, more video pleaaase
I have this in all my drawing books
well, thats dope, because I haven't seen this often.
@@PeterSkye The book is called perspedtive from basic to creative. I have multime others too. But I also agree many design sketching books just have a short intro about setting up a perspective view but then never go into detail.
I clicked the video expecting a click bait...
But, this was awesome and VERY helpfull.
Thanks.
That's great to hear man! Thanks!
I was ready for some clickbait but those tips were actually exactly what they claimed to be. Thanks a lot 👌
Thanks, I'm happy to hear that. I don't like clickbaits :-D
that's dope! i was looking for smth like this for a long time
thank you for showing drawing in perspective
You're welcome! Glad if it helped!
He got the gigachad face
😃😃😃
Great video..... look up robert w gill basic and creative perspective.. its a great book.. really complicated stuff ..i would to see someone dedicate a youtube channel to the concepts presented in his book..again great video
These perspective methods are just the math I was taught in school but without the calculations just art applicability.
Edit: Also I always thought applying these was wrong because nobody spoke about it in the tutorials.
Yes, exactly. There are very few resources out there covering this topic when it comes to art.
at 3:11 this confuse me I thought anything above the horizon line (I mean the eye level in the middle) will be the reverse of birds eye view. Does rotating object to horizon means moving the vanishing point? Every time there is multiple randomly rotated objects in the scene of my sketch my years of studying and learning perspective crumbles :c
I´m not sure whether I fully understood your question. Yes, technically everytime you rotate an object, the vanishing point needs to be changed. The change of VP depends on the direction. This might be a good example!! pin.it/4l77aqI If there is horizontal rotation, you'd move your VPs along the horizon line. If there's an inclined plane for example, you´d draw VP above the horizon line and so on...
Looking goooood on this, man.
It occurs to me that if the process is repeated enough, it gets intuitive?
Thanks! I think so. You surely get better if you practice enough.
Autodesk Sketchbooks Perspective Tool is an OP underrated drawing tool.
Thanks alot ! But did u post the video u mentioned in 3:40 ?
I´m glad you asked, unfortunately I didn´t finish the painting :-/ as I´m working on many projects right now. It took me some time and I wasn´t satisfied with it. I haven´t deleted it from my computer so maybe I´ll finish it someday.
@@PeterSkye take your time and good luck on your projects
great!
Thanks!
man i have a serious problem, well not serius but is a problem and is that my perspective line for two point perspective draws doesn't fit the paper 😅😔
Yes, it can be a serious problem 😄, try bigger paper format or digitally, if you have a tablet
This is good but you're going a little too fast IMO once you start getting to the rotation stuff haha. I had to keep pausing and rewinding to process what you were saying
Yeah, maybe, I relied heavily on the fact you can pause the video 😄
🤯
what is the program?
I think Its Autodesk sketchbook Pro
@@thealmightycat69 yes
If you just want Guides for Perspective Clip Studio paint got the best ones I used.
Thank you, By the way, with that beautiful face and that innocent look, you should be in Hollywood 🙃
Aww, haha. I'm not sure about that... but thank you as well 🙀😆
Bro uses his own face for proportion study 💀
😀
Holy shit
🔥
eso esta incorrecto en el minuto 2:31 el punto de fuga de abajo no va en linea recta hacia el punto de fuga de la derecha va de forna inclinada como si fuera una v es dificil de explicar el porque en un comentario pero asi es
Sorry but I didn't get your comment, I would logically assume that vanishing point at the bottom would follow the same logic as the one at the top. The vertical line is what sets the incline/decline
oh my god bro, your face is like perfect. sorry, im not homosexual, but bro, you got that built in rizz in ur genetics
😄😄 hahaha wat? Thanks man, you're too kind, but that's a bit exaggerated. Thanks anyway 🙂

you are a very bad teacher, I didn't learn anything
Mmm... maybe I am. But there is a possibility that you are a bad student😃🤷♂️
