I know who won, Not a robbery though, so close of a fight, but we all know who really won. With a minimum 10 pound weight difference

@vrenegadee there was no RNC. Hand fighting doesn't get scored. Actual sub attempts do, I.e. under/on chin squeeze. Islam did not have that in any regard. So no, that is a false narrative.

All I know is that Volk did exactly what he said. He said he would get back up. He said he would drag him into the deep rounds. And he said he would break him and see the panic in his eyes. All of those things happened.
it's almost scary how on point he was on what he was capable of against a man dodged by many. To be fair LWs are total noobs in wrestling. That's why Khabib and Islam did what they did. No way they would pulled that of otherwise, like at 170 full of wrestlers.
I didn’t see the panic in Islam’s eyes just the black eye and cuts but both held their own Islam showed a lot in the stand up beautifully placed knees, One huge elbow many counter lefts more jabs than I’ve ever seen him throw took the leg kicks like a champ even tho I expected him to catch one and throw a left or catch one and take him down but it never happened! We need a rematch close Islam win imo both are in my top 10 so no bias at all!

I was there live today, so proud of Volk. What a champion, only started fighting in his 20s, versing a man who grew up fighting and wrestling. To move up as the under sized man and put that sort of beating on him is a once in generation sort of talent. That man has no boundaries

He is if not one of the smartest fighters in the whole UFC but unfortunately so Islam. And unfortunately defense doesn't win fights and volku's more on the defense than he was on the defense you guys are just so impressed by his offense because no one expected it I did. volk’s strength and athleticism has always been underrated. that 5’6 frame carried around 215lbs as an elite rugby player. kinda guy who could be elite at any sport with proper training (except basketball lol).

One of the main factors volk pummeled Islam in the 5th round was his cardio and conditioning,there wasn't even a scratch on volk's face while makhachev was all tired and bruised up,volk is inhuman damn.

Volk shown he is a true warrior, both in spirit and combat. Even though he lost, he still won. He improved his wrestling and takedown defense in preparation and he went toe-to-toe (and arguably won) with the champ in a higher weight class. The fact that he could even escape some of Islam's grappling as a smaller guy while Islam is a world sambo champion who's been training his entire life is insane. Volk IS THAT DUDE. The balls alone to take this fight is true warriors spirit while other fighters duck dudes in their own weight class.
The fact Islam abandoned the choke attempt in the 4th to try and punch back should be the visual indication you need to know he was concerned about the damage he was taking.

Bro Volk did more damage on the ground than Islam even though he was being just held from the back the whole time. Volk was even the only one to get the clean ground and pound in the 5th. I feel like the UFC just gave it to Islam so they can keep him champ for LW and knew giving the loss to Volk wouldn't hurt volks stock either way especially since he fought so good against the bear hugger. Dana is definitely going to eventually push a rematch once the dominos fall as they may.

At the very least it should've been a draw and definitely not a UD for Islam since he did zero damage with his takedowns. I'm definitely seeing this was a fixed decision by UFC if Volk did good because they were soooo sure Islam was going to run through Volk but it didn't happen. I'm getting real tired of the constant changing of the judging criteria of fights for favorites.

Mac used his weight advantage to take Volk down in rounds but didn't do anything with it except look for obscure chokes, he didn't do much as far as striking on the ground. Volk was the only one to get some clear brutal ground and pound in the 5th round.

I actually learned about counter wrestling from watching this fight, it was the best tutorial ever: Volk kept sitting out of every take down attempt, that the ticket, sit out and get back up in the scramble.
Keep your back away from the cage. Islam got that power double sure, but him and the vast majority of these dagestani guys rely on the cage 90% of the time.

Volk brought in the Long Island Welterweight champ for this camp. The wrestling ability of Ryan Gerena has got him to the #1 spot in the northeast/NY. I’ve trained with him and he’s a big reason volk did so well on the ground in my opinion. I hope to see him in the ufc soon.

Dude this fight was like figgy Moreno 3 where on the feet Moreno was winning but then he'd get momentarily dropped and would swing the round back to figgy. I was so impressed by volk man but with the few sub attempts and the fact he would drop volk a couple times in this fight. Also his counter punching would make even volk stand back and nod to acknowledge it. Islam did edge it. But gains no respect. Volk takes all the respect in the world

Dude! Couldn’t agree more. I had the same response to Volk’s fight with Ortega. Though Ortega doesn’t necessarily carry the same “unbeatable” reputation that Makhachev does, Volk showed his true colors that night and really earned his spot as my favorite fighter. His fight last night was even better. Volk should be double champ. He earned it.

Imagine being 4 inches taller, bigger, 20klbs weight advantage and getting all of your takedowns stuffed and even getting tripped yourself by a 5'6 FTW and getting held up against the fence. Volkanovski was clearly the better fighter and Islam who they said would smash him couldn't do anything about it this was an EMBARRASSING performance by Makhachev if you are that good this should have been a close fight can't wait for the rematch.

Volk won round 4 I agree, he was never under any threat of being finished, turning his body around and talking to him and landing like 100 small punches.

Islam looked like he had a reality check even after they said he won. I think he was shocked that the “small guy” beat him up like that. Volk is an absolute legend and should be champ champ right now.
With the body triangle, control time is also a scoring criteria. I wanted Volk to win but I understand why he didn’t. It was a hard night to be a judge, and I think it could go either way. That one judge was off his rocker though

Volk is 34, maybe a year or two left in his prime. I hope he defends his title once or twice this year, and instead of chasing champ-champ status, he leaves the featherweight division and properly bulks up to 155. If Volk was a natural 155er, he would've clearly won, and I hope that's the case if and when they rematch.

Islam won round 1 2 easy every agrees Volk easily won round 5, but learn ufc judging rules. Guru even said 3 was very close, so you could give it to anyone. Also you can secure a takedown and take the back, and thats control time. It may be a dumb rule, but its how mma works.

Hey Guru - think about Robert Whittaker vs Izzy 2. Not only did robert outstrike Izzy a lot of the fight he took him down 4 times threatened submissions (albeit they weren’t significant, more than makachev tho) but advanced position and was busy in doing so. Nearly 4 minutes of control time as well.
Yet he loses with one judge saying 4-1 and Islam is given a 4-1 nod as well while having less effective grappling. He genuinely didn’t advance position once and purely fought the hands while doing close to no damage.
Two of the same outcomes for completely opposite scenarios. Bizarre stuff.
