Cincinnati, Ohio, where Berninger grew up, often serves as inspiration when he is jotting down lyrics to his band's next song. The city's denizens fall on every end of the political, economic, and social spectrums. Berninger has been a firsthand witness to the struggles that the divides among these communities can bring on, all while growing distant from his hometown.
