I'd say that besides his incredible voice, one of Matt's greatest attributes is the ability to feel the temperature of the room. His pick of Pink Rabbits as a song to perform here with good ol' Andrew is perfect.
Andrew Bird's head is like the symphony conductor that's moving a half beat ahead of the music, but impeccably.

When this popped up in my recommended I was thinking HYPE HYPE HYPE, I love both Matt Berringer and Andrew Bird, both great musicians. This is the collab I love that I never knew I wanted.
The National is my favorite band, but only Andrew Bird can lyrically and tonally outclass Matt. A collaborative album would be stellar.

Wow, everything that saved me a few years ago in one show. Bless you, and bless everyone. And I love Matt Beringer's voice in this setting, live, unwarped by effects. Plus I prefer the tempo Mr Bird set here for "pink rabbits" to the studio version that is almost smarmy.
And the master of an instrument who can't play "shiny wood" or " cloudy" are either lame, or lying. It's when a songwriter says: "play how pissed I was last Tuesday" that the cohesive meltdown occurs. :-D
And I wonder how long in this "culture" the phrase "click of the receiver" will last. Who knows, except us oldsters, what that even means? When I first heard it I thought stereo receiver. But no, I recall the click of the phone receiver.
I also liked this pink rabbits better than the studio version but I wasn't really sure why. Thanks for articulating.
