I saw this movie when I was 12. I believe it influenced my life for the positive. Now in my 70s, this music still moves me and so does John Wayne's speech.

I think dimitri Tiomkin was a natural musical genius. He belongs with bach , Beethoven and brahms whom he said were his inspiration. He was a natural musical genius whom God gave the world .His music will live on for many years.

The John Wayne production of The Alamo is a movie with a great soul and it speaks to everyone whoever sees it, wherever their country and whatever their fortunes may be. "This movie will run forever," said John Ford. He was right. So long as free men and women live and breathe they will remember the Alamo.

Saw this movie while in the 5th grade (Flatirons elementary in 1962) at the Chautauqua park in the old wood movie theatre in Boulder, CO I was 10. Later moving to Costa Mesa, CA......just above Newport Beach and meeting John Wayne at Harts sporting goods in CM.. Time sure does fly. And yes, Mr Wayne was larger than life even in an old sporting goods store. A true superstar.

A superb telling of an American and Mexican story.

Of the 200 or so defenders, 15 came from Pennsylvania, more than from any other state north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Overall, Pennsylvania and Virginia are tied for third in the number of native sons lost in the battle.
The Pennsylvania contingent included three officers, Capt. Almaron Dickinson, Lt. George C. Kimbell and 2nd Lt. John M. Thurston, as well as the highest-ranking enlisted man at the Alamo, Sgt.Maj. Hiram James Williamson. The other defenders known to be from Pennsylvania were John J. Ballentine, James Murry Brown, John Cain, Robert Crossman, David P. Cummings, James Hannum, Samuel Holloway, William McDowell, John Purdy Reynolds, William Johnson and John Wilson.

My great grandfather fought with the company of Juan Sequin. They were all native to Texas. Juan Sequin, with a couple of his men were sent as couriers with message to Sam Houston. The rest of his men died at the Alamo. Even though we are still called Mexicans we are all still Americans and we spilt much blood for Texas independence

Always loved this haunting intro to this movie. Byrd Lockhart, Alamo defender, courier, spy and one of the organizers of the '32 immortals' from Gonzales, is my 5th great uncle on my late father's side of the family. He was on his way back to the Alamo on the morning of March 6th with supplies when he realized something had happened. He did not hear the usual morning firing of the largest canon. He and his companion went back to Gonzales with the news. The roads between San Antonio and Gonzales were swarmed by Mexican Cavalry.

One of the worst movies ever made, production was poor, John Wayne's direction was awful, Wayne, Harvey and especially Widmark's acting was awful, but if I were told I was dying, this would be the movie I'd want to watch
