They don’t make movies this epic anymore. Massive cast loaded with huge stars, incredible location shooting, real stunts with real animals
It could probably bankrupt a studio to make an epic like this today. Furthermore, who would likely appear in an epic like this?
@@Juliaflo We don't have stars like this anymore.
No they don't
Yep, they do. Costner's Horizon
And so Un-PC!
My father never got tired of watching this movie. He must have seen it at least 200 times over the years. He loved the cast, the story line, the scenes, the authenticity of the moments. Hollywood doesn't make movies like this one anymore. And, the current crop of actors and actresses are lightweights to no-weights in comparison to the star-studded cast in this movie.
The music, the cinematography, the buffalo stampede, etc....just a brilliant movie. Should have received the Oscar for Best Film. Saw it when it first came out in a cinerama theater. Since then, probably have watched it close to 50 times.
I too still thrill at the memory of the impact this movie made on me way way back and the soundtrack often overlooked is one of the best.
SO DO I. Saw it when it first came out . Even The ending, bringing The West to the modern-day BUT IT STILL STANDS THE TEST OF TIME.
I remember our family going to the Cooper Cinerama in Denver, Colorado in 1962 to see this. It was our big family night out, and we got all gussied up in our best clothes. We went out to dinner, and then to the movies. It still brings tears to my eyes. The opening music is still one of the best themes ever written. I just got the Blu-Ray, which has both the original "smilebox" Cinerama picture, and the widescreen version, both lovingly remastered for the best sound and picture I've seen since that day in 1962. WOW! Highly recommended!
This film is part of the best and fondest memories of my childhood. From my childhood and my life. The world will no longer be as wonderful as it was then.
Amico americano, il West non è finito e non finirà mai, perché il West è una mentalità, un modo di fare e uno stile di Vita! 👍
You have perfectly expressed the same thing that I feel.
The Cooper was an amazing theatre. I grew up in Wheat Ridge. It was a very special occasion, indeed, to go to the Cooper.
I too remember the Copper cameo theatre in Denver. In those innocent times parents would DROP OFF their kids at Celebrity Sports Center, Cooper theatre.
There must be a PhD thesis in music history that explains why american western music and spaghetti western music are so vastly different. But as far as i'm concerned, *this* is the sound of the Wild West.
Different composers, different styles, different tones. Many American westerns were epics about American exceptionalism and focused more on the morals of the heroes rather than violence whereas Spaghetti Westerns like Django and The Good, The Bad and the Ugly were smaller and really delved into the violence behind the West
@@samuelbarber6177 The composers of the music for most great Western epics were either the sons of Eastern European Jewish immigrants or immigrants themselves: e.g., Elmer Bernstein, Jerome Moross, Alfred Newman, Max Steiner, Dmitri Tiomkin. So was the composer of the music for the two great "Cowboy" ballets, Aaron Copland.
All of which raises the question: How much of American Western movie music is actually "American", and how much of it is Eastern European influenced?
Alfred Newman's great achievement in the opening credits was to blend many quintessential American music styles in just 3 minutes. He references Aaron Copeland's elegiac American themes, plus a military march, fife and drum, barn dance, mariachi band etc. It's superb and really stirs the blood.
The Wild West--my idea of Western Civilization!
Absolutely Splendid! I saw this movie with my dad in 1964 at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, Oregon. Bought the LP soundtrack and wore it out. Years ago bought the CD and now look for great recreations of the sound of that wonderful studio orchestra. Thank you!
How is it possible that the greatest movie score of all time did not win the Oscar? A travesty.
Politics plays a big part in the Academy Awards, which do not always go to the most deserving. Look at Liz Taylor's Oscar for Butterfield 8 - one of her worst pictures.
One of my all time favorite movies as a kid. Parents even got me the original motion picture soundtrack LP album and to this day I can still hum the classic theme song… 🎶😃
Oh My God. Thank you. What an incredibly forceful melding of music and HD widescreen action. "Magnificent" doesn't cover it. Words fail. Just... thank you.
Newman once again at the top of his game
His brothers did not do too shabbily, either.
Superb theme to a great movie - and the gun fight on the train towards the end is brilliant.
Beautiful and stirring theme and music and a wonderful film
This picture could not fail. Three of Hollywood's best directors at the helm.
Simply a legendary masterpiece...timeless movie and music! From Italy
I agree, legendary and a masterpiece. True sound of the west. So many go western Theme Tunes.
what a great movie, great score and 3hrs of bliss when ever I watch this master piece.
Yes indeed. I still recall the sense of wonder as the curtains seemed to roll back forever in London's
Soho Cinerama Cinema back in the sixties, followed by that magnificent opening music. Absolutely
thrilling!
I remember watching this with my mum as a kid, Im now 52
Well done! A time in history and movie making never to see again...
Ciertamente.
Great movie. Tremendous song
My favorite movie of all time. Saw it first run inthe theater back in the 60s
Nice scenes. Great, epic, legendary soundtrack 👍❤
A top notch music score than brilliantly captures the epic nature of a landmark Western film spectacle..
I saw this movie in standard cinemascope when it first came out and as a youngster I thought it was the best ever, years on thanks to this super edit that memory lives again - mighty thanks!😀
Masterful score and cinematography. Perfection !
Brings back memories of young Clint Eastwood, (the late) Eric Fleming, and all the rest of them. Superb!
Incredible theme and one of the best westerns out there.
Great job! Thanks for a memorable ride!
My favourite Weston 😊
Part of the piped classic western movie music loop you hear when you go into Frontierland in Disneyland!
Terrific snapshots of the fabulous movie. Love music also.
I wish some theater had shown this for the sixtieth anniversary.
Wonderful video, great music, thanks for sharing!
magnificent editing !
Grandioso espectaculo,ya no se hacen películas así
Que gran espectáculo,ya no se hace cine así
Very well done indeed.
WAO what a great stars collection
Most Excellent!
Glorious Cinerama!
The best film and music ever made makes me happy to watch it 😄😄😄😄
Cuanta felicidad nos dio de niños y de mayores esta extraordinaria película ❤
Incredible epic, whose like we shall not see again sadly.
That was nice.
I saw this in Cinerama, as a kid in Pittsburgh in 1962. I felt when younger that "Manifest Destiny" was a great thing, and expressed in this film. Now that I know history better, folks then considered the natives as sub-human and thus justified taking the land/resources.
Peliculón!!❤
I think Carroll Baker is the only cast member that’s still alive.
Yes, she is.
@@joycejustin6108, Russ Tamblyn is also alive.
My all time favorite movie, especially in the original Cinerama. A suggestion. Showing the clip of the films in Smilebox, not Letterbox.
It used to be my moving tune.
The Good, The Bad And The Ugly had a great soundtrack, yes. But this is just as great.
Purity of the music is just heaven on earth WITHOUT any influence of technology and the military-industrial complex.
Fun. Watched this in nausea inducing Cinerama about 60 years ago. Mighty impressed.
CINERAMA....YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only 1.7 K? 🤨
Por desgracia ya no hacen films asi😢
Not bad. Was there a scene from The Alamo mixed in?
✨
Hail Anamorphic!!
Those buffalo ran over everything for about 100 years.
More honest title would be, "How the West Was Lost."
PORQUE NÃO POSTAR O FILME COMPLETO/ DUBLADO.
NÃO FALO INGLÊS.
COMO POSSO ASSISTIR???
This was a movie !
In:.....CINAMASCOPE!
Alfred Newman in 1935
INDOCHINE AU ZENITH
2:00 If that ain't a Norge i rødt, hvitt og blått quote I don't know what is.
Kfresh tic
Coming soon in 2022, the sequel ''How the West Ws Lost.''
Lyrics anyone?
The score got a two disc box CD ssue on specialist US label "Rhino" and the various lyrics got a good
airing.
Can you IMAGINE the result if this picture was remade today? An intersectional disaster! Just like the way Amazon murdered the Lord of the Rings!
I saw it as a child at the Cinerama dome in Hollywood as a child; it was a bore. Critical reaction was mixed at best. The music, however, is superb! Peace
Ford is unrepetible o cómo digáis
I love the united states of america🇺🇸
More like the "untied" states these days....
Actually this is a propaganda movie in which America Long process after civil war 1861to 1864 and anward highlighted, the movie was filmed in 1963 1964 in memory of 1oo years episode
1st half of the movie was great,,,2nd half ...lousy...never understood why peppard was popular...never saw a movie he was in that i thought he could act
Never read a comment that made virtually no sense.
