Like or dislike Universe Beyond stuff but the decks have been great so far by pulling all kinds of abilities from MTG's universe like I was super surprised in the same game with these decks that there was Phasing, Casualty, Horsemanship, Shadow, etc... this is what a commander product should be doing: celebrating all the crazy abilities throughout MTG history :P
The Doctor Who decks really felt like they were influenced by fans where the previous LOTR decks felt like there were two teams working on them, team A being hardcore fans and team B vaguely recalling the plot from when they watched the movies many years ago.
Yeah like lord of the rings ... The ring tempts you was too complicated. I actively avoid those cards lol.
When exiling cards off of the top of library until you find something that fits the description of the effect, The War Doctor actually sees each card exiled individually because after each card exiled that way, the game checks…. So at 20:30 the war doctor actually shouldve gotten 2 time counters there

Gotta say, that's a classic case of "reading the card completely and utterly fails to explain the card".
@@japplekI think this is because it's a rules issue and not a mechanical issue. Because let's hypothetically assume that the rules change did that interaction with no longer work. And if they had decided to put that on the card, the card now says something that it doesn't actually do.

Demonstrate is a copy, not a cast, so neither player should have cascaded during that last turn. Funnily enough, demonstrating a spell that reads “cascade, rebound” doesn’t do anything at all
There was a misplay around minute 21. The war doctor would have gotten a time counter for every card flipped by the 10th doctor. When is says exile until you hit. . . That is counted as individual cases of exile.

the war doctor gets a counter for EACH card exiled with the 10th doctor, as you exile until you hit a nonland, you get as many counters
so he would have gotten two the first time (this was explained by Gavin Verhey and he must know the best hes from wizards) tahts why the war doctor goes super high super fast
Then why would the card read one or more, instead of for each
@@wilhelmjostes2045 For effects that exile "until" you find something, each card is exiled separately, ergo 1 counter per exiled card
@@wilhelmjostes2045 that is specifically for cards that read "exile X cards" as they have a fixed value. but cards that exile until they find it checks each one individually, it's silly and unintuitive if you've played any other card game but that's how it works

I've only been playing magic for about a year, and I've never watched anything Dr. Who. But the precon looked cool, so I picked it up and it's alot of fun
I plan on grabbing all 4 decks, but first is Villans (because who doesn't love the idea of being the bad guy sometimes) and then probably the Timey-Wimey deck (the 9 10 and 11 doctor deck) and then the others
When I went to my LGS and we were talking about the Doctor Who precons and I made a comment about how Josh Lee Kwai said "Exterminate!" and the young guy who works at the store didn't get the reference I felt sad and old 😂😂😂

Ben missed exiling instant and sorceries. I believe he would have reached 4 and had been able to cast one of them back.

Grate game everyone ! was a fan of commander zone then just got bored of the show so I came over here . this is my fifth or six ep I watched sofar i love this commander show and hope to continue watching grate games !
Very cool set. Great game! These crossovers should bring in new players to mtg who otherwise would never have played.
Same with Lotr. They expel so many oldschoolers, that they need a new fanbase to milk ^^.
I like that these are just decks unlike LOTR. This set has a lot of mechanics and it seems like a much better experience contained against each other.

Only bought into the Timey-Wimey deck as it looked so interesting. First time playing it with group they were scratching their heads. Glad I goldfished it to practice manipulating time counters haha!
Seriously fun deck…. I managed to confuse the heck out of everyone and by the end of the game I had “timey wimey’d” them all out of points. 😂
As a huge fan of Doctor Who, this set has been like Christmas for me. All three of the Doctor focused decks are a blast to play, though I didn't care much for the villainous one, and Planechase is a hoot with these decks. My Doctor will always be Matt Smith, though I hopped on in Tennant's first run. Of the classic Doctors, Sylvester McCoy (7th) is my favorite. I wished that Jodie Whitaker had better writing, but Chibnall just does not fundamentally understand who The Doctor is.
As for this game, I was rooting for Shae, as Timey Wimey is my favorite deck of the four.
CGB dropped two lands in his turn at 50 minutes in. He shouldn't have been able to recast his Doctors companion.
Also war games makes 3 1/1 warriors for each player

It didn't effect the game that badly, though. He didn't do anything after casting the companion on the wrong turn, and the only difference it would have made the following turn would have been casting the companion and then the insect for X=4 instead of 8

I've been a dr who fan the Tom baker Era, so having thus MTG is really exciting
47:16 Interesting theme in how in these MTG game plays on CZcams, in all of them people almost always attack all out… But when I play, I often like to have available blockers or something in hand incase of an attack on me… Almost makes me think my usual way of playing is wrong 😑

So…I just realized why they didn’t put rousing refrain in the timey wimey deck but do have inspiring refrain. It goes infinite with the Tenth Doctor if someone has at least 7 cards in hand.
I know that might seem obvious to some but I only noticed it because I was going through the Prismari Performance precon to get cards for my upgraded Davros deck. I originally wasn’t interested in any of the doctor who decks except the villains one but now I understand why Timey Wimey has the highest cost on TCGPlayer.

Its even stronger than how they played it. It should get a counter for each card exiled with the 10th doctor. Also works the same for cascade.

"Partners with" is a may, so there was no need to put Madame Vastra into his hand at that point. It wouldn't have made a difference at that point in the game but there was no need to retroactively do anything.
This is correct, but even if it wasn't a may, you can always fail to find.

This is the most interested I’ve ever been about “Dr Who-Cares,” as I used to call it. I just assumed it was a lame nerdy show, and here I am watching people play magic the gathering with Dr Who cards. Anyway great fun as always. Thank you :)

why is nodody playing the 5th Dr as their commander, seems a bit more dangerous?
I would say he is the worst one to run in the precon setup, the deck doesn't have that much creatures that tap themselves for effect and it is a slow to get value, while being able to attack and get back blocker is nice he is the one profitting the less from the pure precon deck
Oh i'm adding on what I said I misrembered the effect the fifth doctor trigger only for creatures that didn't not attack or just entered this turn, it turns it to an even more passive deck , now don't get me wrong the fifth doctor if you build a deck around his effect might be one of the most insane commander in this set, heck there is even an inhfinite combos in the deck just not doable in the precon as it is.

Actually there was a misplay on the 10th Doctors exile triggers from the attack that would have given the War Doctor counters so really the misplays start at 19:53 lol but its all in fun

Me and my cousin used to go to the gas station to red a couple of movies every weekend, they had a movie rental room, it was so much fun. I think they even continued after everything was made into DVDs

the modern ones are all so good, but Capaldi had some of my favorite episodes.
Capaldi started off rough, but his second and third seasons pulled through so hard.
