Perhaps The Dumbest Tank Design With Genius Engineering: Attack Track

Welcome to another episode of Scrap Mechanic! Today I am replicating one of the strangest tank track mechanisms I've ever seen. It comes from the 80's cartoon He-Man and is called the Attack Track. It appears to be a mix between a tank and a walker, where the tank treads actually flip end over end as the smaller wheel rolls along the inside.

What is Scrap Mechanic?
Scrap Mechanic is a multiplayer sandbox game with imagination and ingenuity at its core. Create fantastic machines, transforming vehicles or sneaky traps. The possibilities are endless with Scrap Mechanics powerful tools.

ScrapMan, there is an inside curve block. Its just the reverse of the duct curve piece, its green in the inventory
The skinny wedge
Flying Pankcake, am I right?
@@ItzEvin08 *gasp* the HANKcake! :)
It's actually just a visual, it's a wedge. Sm handles complex collisions by having a separate 3d model file with a lot of dots in it and when physics engine runs it just connects 1 point to all other points and does it for each one, so you can't have concaved collisions in the parts in sm at the moment, sadly
@@ADonutMan sadge frame rate optimized gaming
Since you're making weirdly moving creations, you could also make a He-man Dragon Walker. From the same set of toys as this tank

This HAS to be the next one :D
That would be cool to see
I may still have one of these!
That would be crazy to see working in Scrap Mechanic!
If this is going to be a new series I am 100% on board as both of these creations have been amazing!!
Scrapman you did something special. You made me and others who grew up watching these cartoons happy. Knowing we can bring our childhood cartoon vehicles to life in these games is special. How many times we wish we could pilot the vehicles we saw our favorite characters drive back then, really hits all the feel good points. Thankyou :)
this makes me want to know than WHAT cartoon was it from.for the first walker as i have a feeling he-man was this eps strangity
You should try and make a Monospinner the simplest controllable flying machine in existence!
@@berko2076 shut up bot
(removed) ayo, this is an age 12 channel. Put your age 18 stuff somewhere else.
@Shwellava I just searched it and it's so weird but cool. Scrapman should try to build it, but that's his choice. 😄
Please do
I dislike the bot (removed)

Gotta love how he overengineered it to the point of having retractable spudguns to let the wheels loose.
What else would you do
@@iakonasisler4808 mount the spudguns to the cardboard, then have them shoot the cardboard. then they'll fall off
@@jjacobs321 trueeee
@@jjacobs321 well that’s ok if you like leaving guns on the road
These videos where you struggle with a complex concept and then come up with an amazing solution are SO SATISFYING! Keep up the great work!!
just a thought but have you considered doing an episode where you and the others share 2-3 of your favorite creations? you lot have built so much i'm intrested in which creations you built that you would want the others to try
ide love to see a hexapod walker that can walk on any angle surface via "sticky feet" or something
I fell like that would be a kan thing
chapter 2 sticky wheels for that
I was also thinking of making this when I first saw your previous video as it reminded me of this. I have a He-Man collection and own all of these (still functioning) strange vehicles. As a kid I always thought that you couldn't possibly steer it so I was pretty amazed to see it turn. I really loved this vid, very nostalgic, you did a wonderful job with something that was actually purely made for the novelty value.
Whenever I see the word 'dumb' on Scrapmans video: Oh no what has he made now...
Well Scrapman just made wheels redundant.
I expect to see this on all future builds.
Imagine how cool it would be to fight on multiplayer Monday in creations like these made of cardboard, it would be chaos, and hilarious
Scrapman that tank is from he-man, an old series that I still love to watch
real life concepts made in scrap mechanic is my new favorite thing to watch on this channel
Scrapman's definition of tank is getting more and more different as time goes on.
this should be a series, people find you weird vehicles and you attempt to rebuild it in scrapmachanic or trail makers
While you're on a roll turning wierd vehicle concepts into working Scrap Mechanic creations, you could try General Grievous' monowheel walker bike thingy. I managed to build one in KSP, so it should also be possible in SM.
Its been less than an hour and I find this gem, despite being in school rn
Scrapman is yet again, A Technical Wizard. And an amazing Sound Engineer
i wonder if one can make it using pistons and controolers to have evrything on one grid
i think that would be even easier than detaching the tracks
The Amazement is non-stop around here... And thanks for the nostalgia hit, had one of those foot flipper trucks...lol... It brings a smile to my face when you do a Thing...
Nice one! i do have 2 suggestions that could hopefully make it smoother (less skipping teeth) and prevent it from falling apart
- The 'tracks' should prolly be 2 blocks taller so you can make a bit more of a curve at the ends
- Then use pistons to have a 2 block high piece 'floating' in the middle of the side that the 'wheel gear' slots in to, so that gap becomes a circular slot, this should prevent the 'wheel gear' from jumping up and skipping teeth
Lol I was going to suggest suspension to apply downward pressure into teeth.
Glad you thought of it though, it even had more additional benefits, great.
If that didn't work I was going to suggest combining the tire and rod methods to get a more consistent speed and grip. Figured out a fix nicely.
One thing that made me surprised a little is the spudguns. You have so much room in there you could have just placed the spud guns facing outward, hidden inside the tank so you'd only see the tip of the barrel then connect the treads so that the gun could shoot through two blocks and the mechanism would be more hidden.
Still really cool execution of the creation.
This is really cool and this has inspired me to make things like this
hello scrap man! You have been my favCZcamsr for almost 3 years now!
Ok
Same but like 4 for me
@@berko2076 No.
Scrapman: "is it a tank or a walker?"
My mind: "TONKER"
Now I want to make this.
Thanks for giving me some crazy ideas.
Also He-Man would be proud.
Every time I watch your videos I instantly like them. It never fails because I always enjoy them.
I’m not sure how good you are with The Modpack logic but I’d love to see you try to make a T-180 from the ‘08 Speed Racer movie. They’re jet-powered drift cars except they still have grip because all four of their wheels face forward no matter how sideways they are!
"Is it a tank or a walker?"
"Yes"
scrapman is training his brain every time he makes a video like this
5:47
Gives a whole new meaning to “throwing a track.”
Memory unlocked. I had the attack track as a kid. That thing was cool.
that is an oddly satisfying drive. the tank looks like something out of star wars.
YES. Perfect timing. Thank you, I needed something by you to get me through lunch break. ^_^
This makes me wish I had a 3D printer. Would be a fun project to replicate.
Well done scrap man that is amazing I would love to see more of these videos
People: are you a tank or a walker
Attack track: yes
These Mechanisms are so cool
"is it a walker or is it a tank?"
"yes"
I still think you should attempt to replicate the "Masters of the Universe Dragon Walker"
Keep up the amazing content 😁👍
I like it so much this new serie, you should countinue it!
Def gotta revisit this one when the sticky wheels come out
He-man, Mask, thundercats, silverhawks, Pole position. Scrapman could make entire series on 80s cartoon tots alone.
Nice job ScrapMan!
With the horizontal small pipe pieces, couldn't the "threads" be 2 block lower in total height?
Scrapman started with 5 block height tracks and ended with them 7 block height?
I love this, wooop! All the strange! It moves, that's a win!
yes tank tracks can be attached to the body of the vehicle. it's actually better on performance to do so. also i'd recommend making an omni directional vehicle. might be fun
I see one difference from the original. On ScrapMans tank both tracks flip at the same time but on that old clip they seem to flip as the other is moving.
I think this might work better if you tweak the timing on the tracks. Ideally you want them to be staggered, so when you're "stepping" with the front left, you're also going with the back right, same the other way. That may negate a little bit of the tilting problems because it should stay a little more level
Suspension fixes everything! Very nice
2:10 uh oh, scrap man isnt being so family friendly!
Just saw this video and when you put the suspension on the walking tracks I noticed something went to the comments to see if anyone mentioned it and did see any but the slipping you had, had pretty much went
19:10 If you never need those spud guns again... just attach a pipe to the side of the cardboard to hold the gun. Then when the cardboard gets shot off, the gun detaches at the same time.
If you attach them to the forward movement button, then they don't even need a separate control.
Imagine if tanks evolved like this
I really wouldn't mind seeing Scrapman's take on the Okomotive from Far: Lone Sails.
I don't know much about this game, but I feel like you may have been able to make this work with the tires on the high-friction surface if you either added more weight to the tires/frames or a suspension as you did with the gear design, ensuring persistent contact with the surfaces through the rotations.
You could put a bar across the middle of the "track" pieces to hold the axle in place better. You would just need to use a non collision block on each end to let the axle through.
And if you extend the axle past the pipe gear and do the same thing on the glass side, it may be more stable side to side.
Nice vid like always
great vid!!
think what u needed to prevent the slippage at 12.36 is an inside block to keep the axle from bouncing up.. probably would need a piston or suspension so the axle has no collision that way you can have a centre area of blocks as a runner/ chain guard type of thing :)
Him: I'll make it so the pistons only detract when you are in the seat
Me: What about when you get out and the tracks are in the way?
Dont worry too much ScrapMan, the tracks fell off the original toy as well. Had one hanging around with the rest of the toys for a decade because couldnt figure out what the weird thing with the gear in the window was for most of the time.
I feel like there should be a replace with option in scrapmechanic so the highlighted area replaces with a block in your inventory
I would've used pistons to simulate the forward/backward movement for the "tracks". would've gotten rid of the prop physics and might be ore stable.
@@nikkiofthevalley true, it wouldn't be as cool as what Scrappy has done but it would've worked more smoothly I think
Now to see if you can duplicate He Man's Dragon Walker.
Likely not as it would require rather exacting physics to make the device tilt as needed when stepping, and making the driving gear on the edge that wouldn't slip out wouldn't be easy
In before @ThatDomguy makes this in Trailmakers! Love both of your channels.
I think scrapman hasn’t fully thought about a lot of possibilities I think you can make it way smoother using weight and more complex systems and more fine tuning
Hey ScrapMan!
I dont know if it would be cheating but instead of using a type of wheel rotating in the tracks you could use a piston for the horizontal movement which pushes the the tracks (that are than attached to the vehicle) forward (extend) , flip the track using a controller and than retract the piston which moves the car/tank forward again.
I feel like a hybrid wheel and pipe gear mechanism might work better, wheels for the smooth bit and pipes for the Torque.
love your channel you post always that i want to see its like you read my mind
You might be able to get slightly better results building the ‘gear’ & ‘teeth’ out of wedges, with the gear mounted to a wheel for better ability to keep in place in the ‘tracks’.
Guess if we are going to continue the series of "Rebuilding 80's Toy Mechanics in Scrap Mechanic" Something like the Robotix series might be on your radar. Like the one I had, Robotix Series R-1500.
Nice Buld xD i like it!
i love your vids so keep it up and wedge gang for life you should build a wall racer
You should make a snow mobile (dirt converted)
i love your videos scrapman
Look up images of the he man tanks they would look really cool in scrap!
I know you want it to be more " realistic" but what if instead of having a gear or wheel system inside the track just have a bearing and a piston attached to the inside tip of the track ( assuming you can use logic to start and stop a bearing, I don't have the game) so it would be piston extend, bearing spin 180° piston retract, bearing spin 180°, and repeat. Also if the tracks were a little shorter horizontally it would spin more easy because the would be less leverage you are trying to overtake.
Hey, you can use gererator pipes, it's smaller then the normal pipe but it's bigger that the mini pipe.
So funny, i used to have one of these... but I always referred to it as a "klomper"... :)
is it a tank? is it a walker? no its an attack tracker
if you think about it the treads are normal but just rigged and not "soft".
Multiplayer monday idea
Unconventional drive battle
No wheels, or thrusters.
spudguns in one direction on a turret
You can also make it into a challenge before the battle to see accuracy, agility and speed and give a bonus for the ones that win each event like an extra spudgun (to be only manually fired if it seems like too big of a buff), or an extra bit of armor on the front sides top or back.
I think the first time you did it with the three wide gap you had it, just needed to put curved pipes in so you would have that extra gap.
now a multiplayer monday of all of you with this going through courses
i love this tank for no logical reason, i just find it goofy
Very very interesting
It doesn't have to work great, it just has to work!
Scrap man you should try to build a rimless car in scrap mecanic
I wonder if it would be better to have the tracks one block shorter (as they were initially) with the horizontal teeth, the slight increase in vertical space between the teeth might be enough so the gear doesn't touch the top ones.
now you gotta up your walker game and build a giant AT-AT!
Next : 1980's Masters of the Universe beast vehicle the Dragon Walker from Mattel AKA He Man's Dragon Walker
I love your vids so much
what would be ideal is if you could put guides on them for the axles to run in
He's like the mumbo of scrapmechanics.
Make this a multiplayer Monday Challenge
You should do a survival series where you can only use this goofy tank.
