Have loved this tune for decades, written by Chick Corea. Plenty of soul! And the musicians certainly do the composition a whole lot of justice! Thank you for posting my friend!
Thank you george! I aprised a friend several years ago of chick at this period sounding like mcoy, but HE COULDNT HEAR IT! HIS CD'S NO LESS,LOVES TO ARGUE ABOUT MUSIC! By the way george im the rasheed who sent you the lonnie l.smith cd's with you from 1973 at camden high school by farid. You took care of business!
Definitely the one of the finest of trumpeters and people. Back in the day with Harold Land at the Catalina in Mission Bay, San Diego... so many fine memories of Blue and Chick. May their music play on.... thanks to D Gallymon for sending reminder. ox AB Cohen
@@JungleYT Joan was Corea’s wife and the song is dedicated to her; Corea said he didn’t want it to have a “mushy” title. I think I read this in the liner notes of the original album.
@@yoga.ma.genova8591 Thanks... Was that his first wife? Rumor is that one of his wives was to NEVER be mentioned or something? Perhaps she was kind of crazy or they had a bitter breakup?
My Favorite rendition growing up, before realizing Chic Corea wrote it... Tried asking Mr. Corea what the title meant or the genesis for the name, but he never responded. Now that he passed, may never know?
Had an exchange about the very same thing with someone on another thread. He's definitely been elusive about the backstory on this. I once seen him w/ Jazz @ Lincoln Ctr. Orchestra. At the occasion he talked around it and gave up nothing.
Would be nice to hear Pepper on this. He plays a great solo on Straight Up and Down, from the same session, though: czcams.com/video/d2FVeAj4wns/video.html
I’m memorizing this
Rest in Peace dear Chick, Music has lost one of her dearest sons.
beautiful!

Wonderfull
I love this tune and all of the great musicianship. I hear McCoy Tyner's influence on Chick.
G.B.
Correct man
Blue never sounded better! His tone and execution is flawless! And McCoy Tyler’s solo is perfection! Chick Corea wrote such a great tune.
McCoy Tyner? I get why you may say that but it's actually Armando himself!
Tyner never had this beautiful sound.
gorgeous arrangement by Duke Pearson

Timeless! Always loved the title of this song.
What is the meaning of the title? Tried asking Mr. Corea, but no response. Rather strange title...

@@siddiqahmad5193 Weird, ain't it? Hope there ain't a cold case out there or anything...
Nicely Articulated by this Ensemble..
Yes that’s Mc Coy Tyner on the keys, but chick was heavily influenced by Mc Coy, Chick wrote but Mc Coy played it.

Nice cut. I WAS hoping to hear what Pepper Adams could do with this tune, but he doesn't solo :(
