    By way of introduction, Cordwood Construction is an old-fashioned method of home building using logs and mortar. Using earth-friendly choices, hard work and recycled material, cordwood construction can help lower the cost of building your own home.

      Sim, você pode construir com argila. A proporção é de aproximadamente 1/3 de argila, 1/3 de areia e 1/3 de palha picada. O tipo de argila em seu solo pode alterar as proporções, portanto você precisará testá-lo. cordwoodconstruction.org/cordwood-in-brazil-2

    What about insects such as carpenter ants colonizing in the cracks of the wood?

    • @CordwoodConstruction20
      @CordwoodConstruction20  Před 4 lety

      If you live where they are carpenter ants, you must use all the precautions that are used in ant and bug areas. Insect (termite) shield along the foundation. Insect repellant along the perimeter ground of the house. Treat the wood with a borax/borate solution. Use all the precautions that horizontal log cabin builders use along with checking your walls every few months for signs of infestation.

    I just wonder if it is a good idea to fill the insulation gap with recycled polystyrene. There is plenty around me, just should collect from the warehouse. That is resistant to worms too. The logs I can tread with borax, but the insulating sawdust?

    • @CordwoodConstruction20
      @CordwoodConstruction20  Před 3 lety

      If you could shred the recycled polystrene so it is in tiny bits, that would work the best. The sawdust is treated with Type S hydrated lime. Some folks have also added borax to the insulation mix.

      @@CordwoodConstruction20 Thank you, perfect!! For first glance it might look a strange idea to mix this classic green building technic with a modern artificial insulation material. However, I think that at the end, upcycling polystyrene instead of treating it as garbage is quite green and economical. I hope gridding polystyrene into black pepper size is not a big deal. I will find the solution for sure to have my dream home.
