Living a life true to myself since 2011, despite all the opposition, is incredibly hard. It’s still a struggle. Today is one of those days when I feel like breaking down. I tried to sleep but couldn't. I felt so low on energy, but a few minutes ago, I jumped out of bed, made an instant coffee, and opened my journal. I started writing, started organizing. Suddenly, I got some energy and decided to watch a Ali Abdaal video I got a notification for the other day. Here I am. Not successful yet, not even close, but hopefully soon.

Fading friends really hits, but how to know or find real friends 💭
It's tricky, but it can also be seen as a fresh start. Now we get to go out there, meet new people and decide who we want to have in it based on our life experience. Something we often didn't have growing up, which made us fall into friendships which often might not have been the most healthy for us.

Develop some new hobbies or join some sport. You will meet new like minded people and can make friends. Just remember, be ready to make the first move instead of waiting for others

People, especially my school friends, have never really understood what my life is like and what my priorities are. They believe, and not incorrectly, that I often work quite hard, but this nearly always leads to the assumption that I just want to achieve high and waste my life without happiness. However, this is simply not true. I find the joy of living every day, whether that's just sitting in the sun in breezy sunrise/sunset times, just being happy and having happy thoughts, or it's hanging out with my school friends and just talking freely, and I get quite annoyed at certain peoples' (what could be called) naivety. I wouldn't be surprised if I was happier than 99% of those people.
The best things in life are free but success, achievement and learning are a must. Finding balance is the key. Stay Uncommon.
My friendships didn’t fade overtime. They came to a place that they didn’t fit anymore. For me or for them. And that’s ok. If you’re putting in the effort, new friendships develop, and they last for as long as they enhance both people’s life.
I married a person I want in my life forever.
I honestly don’t expect that in a friend.
To guarantee a life of regret, prioritize work over everything else, follow societal expectations, suppress feelings, let friendships fade, avoid growth, prioritize instant gratification, never apologize or forgive, avoid happiness, set strict rules for happiness, and lack intentionality in life design.
For me, being financially independent, and having tried and consumed many things, the way to NOT to regret your life is to say the truth to an extend ( against the society) and to offer to humanity. To serve and not to be afraid to speak up.
Of course my biggest regret is first in ranking. Why do we care so much about what our loved ones say? Why do we let others define our life, hiding it behind a shield of "oh, i'm just a people pleaser what else could i do".... Staying where we were always told is the easiest way, but I wouldn't live a happy and meaningful life sticking to it. It's time to stop mourning about "we're too old" to do something, when a lot of people who are, in fact, too old for a change, regret not taking a path they liked when they had the opportunity too. I'm 25 and I say I'm too old for stuff I'm definitely NOT. Let's start building our dream life.

I was a process control engineer (just retired 2/21/24) I would always stress test my projects just to make sure it would work under all conditions.

Some of this advice is great for someone who has found comfort or live in an environment of abundance/privilege. For the rest of us, who leave in less than ideal circumstances, we have to work extra hard just to get by and more if we want to live comfortably. I'd rather die knowing I eliminated my family's generational poverty than the memories of spending time with friends. The rest is good advice though.
Maybe the hard work is what we need to stay grounded and be humble and not corrupt our minds/spirit, and by "ending generational poverty" we actually create more harm than good in the long run. - "Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times"

I think the hardest part is even if I work hard, it’s hard to actually have fun outside of work because I feel like I need to work harder because I’m competing with people who are even better, smarter, and work harder than me…. Constantly wishing I could do fun things outside of work, but can’t actually have fun until I’ve made progress or am being productive. Like, my feeling of satisfaction comes from progress, and until then I feel like I shouldn’t do anything else. What else can you do when you constantly have to compete with others who are better, smarter, and work harder than you?

I feel like the most frustrating parts of all these tips is that I am perfectly aware of the things I need to change. Coincidentally I also am a big dreamer, but every step in between just feels so insanely impossible and I am scared to commit to things that might end up costing me lots of money or time that I cant lose

I agree with all the points except the one that " Prioritise work over eveything and at the end regret that I shouldn't have worked this hard", and this is because if you don't work hard to change yourself and your current conditions who else will? Is it better to be born and die with same poverty? or die rich instead? If you work hard you will be proud of yourself at your death because you'll be glad that you changed the status of the people around you. I think we should encourage the youngsters to work more hard.
I've learnt to be sceptical of super successful people advocating for the balanced, mindfulness way of life. When Ali was building his businesses alongside his med career and afterwards, do you really think he was following this advice? Or was it stress, strained relationships and work above all? It's easy to preach this stuff once you've crossed to the other side and start forgetting what it took to get there...
