You can really see what a difference the structure of modern leg pads has made. By this time (the 90s) goalies are becoming very good athletes, and positioning is beginning to become more standardized, but the pads don't allow them to slide very well, and more importantly don't let them get blade to ice when they butterfly. Can't get a blade in? Have to reach and dive. Great to watch previous generations of goalies solving the problem as best they can with the technology they have.
I know everything is butterfly nowadays but I greatly preferred the aesthetics of old stand up goaltenders. The 90s was the sort of crossover transition age.
You paid to see hasek Roy broduer Richter not the same for Kemper sorokin just don't have the same appeal. The unique equipment the 90s goalies would roll out with hrudey hasek irbe osgood soderstrom 😅 .
Miss all that goalies had personality

Man, Ozzy was fantastic in that 96 OT game. Blues could have had 4-5 easy based on their chances. Underrated goaltender.

Hasek saves dont make sens ....the problems is ..it was an everyday stop for him ..thought he was lucky ..but i have to admit ..there is a method in this madness !!! Men that guy was good and unorthodoxe !
Hasek would bait the shooters into trying for a certain spot or move, and then seal off his 1st and 2nd. Option. Hasek would sometimes throw his arm and glove back to seal off the entire bottom half of the net when a shooter simply would try to stuff it under his pad...the save was made HOWEVER there were instances where the shooter would deke, pass, or the puck would find his way to the other side of the crease...Hasek already would have it sealed off. That's what made him so great...he would make the initial save...but would be ready to make a 2nd save and have the 2nd best option for the shooter already closed. Whether he needed to or not
Goalies of the 80's and 90's had style. Today they are just cookie cutters.

The last time period of character hockey. Everything now is milktoast and woke garbage. No more battling. I dont even watch anymore and sold all my hockey paraphernalia because of the woke garbage being shoved down my throat. Fun to look back at when the sport was great.
