So what's in this video? cITV presenter gets a special inside look at the making of films inside Shepperton Studios! The first segment of the show, he goes inside a studio with a giant Ten Cents tug on the building, and from there- all exclusive behind the scenes content on how the show is made, specifically whilst filming the episode "Up River".

It's alright if you didn't know.
The first series of TTTE was filmed at Clapham Junction, the second - twelfth series were later filmed at Shepperton Studios before Nitrogen Studios and Arc/Jam Filled in Canada took over for the rest of the show.

The Star Tugs Trust owns a lot of uncut stuff from the episodes, but they don’t show them publicly.
Amazing, I would’ve loved to have worked on a programme like this.
I think the convenience of modern CGI has taken a lot of this magic away.
The production of this *very does* look like such great fun! I *do* long for the days of pre-CGI world in children's television animation. Saying that, some modern CGI kids programmed *can* still be great (I *really* like Netflix's "Go, Dog, Go!"). Just depends on what how they do it and how they do go about it (e.g. shit like "Fireman Sam").
I never thought I'd see the day when I would see this. I love this and now we see what Chris Tulloch looks like. He is a great person to have on the set and what a guy David Mitton is. I must applaud you for bringing this to us as it is amazing to see the special clips and preparations that are part of the show 🙂.

I just remembered this video existed, it's absolutely magical.
(I feel like the reason Zorran is cross during the interview is because Chris Tulloch is using the Big Mac controller during the demonstration if you look closely.)
Looking at this, I *now* would have *killed* to work on this. Looks like a huge model toy shop that you play with to make a children's TV programme!

Finally I can see Retro Bill in stunning HD!!1!1!1 All jokes aside though, I don't know how long I've been waiting for something like this, but I'm in awe. I wish they had made more episodes of TUGS. It had so much potential to become something much more bigger than it was. Shame that they went bankrupt, I wish Britt Alcroft had bought the rights to TUGS.
*And still no official DVD release as of 2023!* Not to mention "Shitty's Outhouse" being shown on Channel 4 during the early 2000s in the UK maybe did *quite a bit* of it in also.

Nostalgia boats
Most of the same crew that me the delights of "Thomas" growing up. 😥Also remembering renting "TUGS" once or twice from the video shop. Complete with the "grind of doom" Castle Vision ident. Saying that, I *wasn't* flat-out scared of it, just weirded out.

Like Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends they used Animation with Live Action Models buy using remote controlling the tugboats and switch faces to match there emotions. Unlike Thomas there are no human characters only using horns through buildings and vehicles and the characters are voice buy different actors instead of the narrator doing them and the episodes are 15-20 minutes while Thomas episodes last for only 4 minutes. While Thomas is made for younger children Tugs is made for older Children It is the only official sister series to Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends.
What made Britt Allcroft/David Mitton so special. Something 95% of the time CGI *cannot do!*

There is a voice actor in the clip, actually. Chris Tulloch did Zorran’s voice as well as art direction.

It's a real shame that they never got credited for the voicework 😞 Shaun Prendergast the VA for Sunshine & Zak said in an interview that he didn't even realise none of them were credited for their Voice Roles
I do wish to see more of tugs series episodes in the future, like one more episode called Rebecca, the new star tug
