    I love how this show is essentially what happens when you give that creative friend way, WAY too much money

    That was a great video. There was quite a lot that went into the show. But it's so sad that the show hit BIG problems along the way.

    TVS didn't *quite* go bankrupt at that time - They had acquired MTM Enterprises in 1988 and had ambitions to become a big international player rather than just a regional ITV franchise when suddenly the Broadcasting Act 1990 was passed by the UK government, which changed the entire system of how ITV franchises were awarded. Suddenly TVS (having bought MTM for 190 Million) had to start cutting costs to prepare for the upcoming franchise auction and downscaled their productions and made redundancies. When the auctions came around the following year TVS lost out because they were judged to have bid too high!
    There were alot of politics behind all this of course!

    Its a shame how Tugs came to an end :(

    As a former TVS employee, TVS did not go bust in 1990. The upcoming auction of TVS's broadcast licence in 1991, caused massive cutbacks. The licence was lost, and TVS handed over to Meridian TV on 1 January 1993, but TVS wasnt finally wound up til well into the 21st Century, having been bought and sold by Flextech, and finally being bought by Disney. Disney cleared out the TVS studios, and in the process destroyed all the production paperwork for virtually every TVS show. TVS Television: gone, but never forgotten.
    PS: It's spelt PRODUCTION. You missed the 'C' out in the onscreen Astons.

      Hi Zac, this is a really interesting read. Strangely most sources online says the loss of franchise for TVS began in 1990 with its last broadcast in 1992. However, the loss of franchise in 1990. Is what caused TUGS demise. The actual shutting of TVS was not important to my video as my fan base would deffo stop watching. So it needed to have a quick summary. I was more using what I could find. But, did not know about the rest of the history here. Very Interesting.
      PS: Unfortunately I can't change 'production' in the video now. I was jet-lagged while making this.

    Imagine if TUGS actually managed to make a success. Then it would probably make it to the CGI series like TTTE. Now that would look cool.

    Great video. TUGS is a really awesome TV series next to Thomas And Friends. It sucks that TUGS only had 1 season and 13 episodes, but it's still an awesome show to watch. Of course, I was born in 2006, so I didn't watch the show when it first came out back in 1989. However, up until this year, I would watch episodes on CZcams. Nevertheless, TUGS is really awesome to watch - Despite the problems and issues the show's creators had to face after filming the 13th episode.

    It was likely we didn’t see the Tugs models in Thomas and the magic railroad due to copyright issues rather than the clash between David and Britt

    • @thomasthetankman111
      @thomasthetankman111  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Well I think Britt simply didn’t want her film to be a colab film with Tugs. That wasn’t her creation and didn’t make sense. Copyright issues with itv. might have caused an issue if that was ever going to be the plan. But tugs was never going to appear in TATMR. David asked about it. Britt said no.

      @@thomasthetankman111 from what I saw on the Thomas wiki, the tugs props were shipped over to Canada during magic railroads filming, but were ultimately left unused. Magic Railroad was also meant to have a sequel ( likely sometime around late 2001 ) so there’s a chance that we could’ve had the Sodor engines interact with the likes of Ten Cents, Sunshine, O.J etc.

    It didn't help for TUGS to come to the US when Salty's Lighthouse was created and disgraced the legacy of its roots entirely. Not to mention so much wacky editing going on.

    The only reason why you made it look like this is because you're reviewing tugs and you made it just look like the unlucky tug
    clever

    • @thomasthetankman111
      @thomasthetankman111  Před 2 měsíci

      I mean this is more a video on the production of making TUGS as part of my production of Thomas the Tank Engine Series. Wouldn't say this is a review of TUGS. Unlucky Tugs videos are not related to this really. He does a completely different thing( (reviewing). Mine is just about the literal making of the show. Hope you enjoyed the video though!
