Between you and CineD we have encyclopedic access to almost every relevant piece of cinema gear made in the last 10 years. Please keep up the excellent work, and know that there are those of us who deeply appreciate it.

That last comparison shot was wild, I knew which one was the c70 immediatly in motion, but pausing and looking at the differences as stills, it was much closer... Maybe adding a bit of softness to the c400 and touch of hilation or glow for the skin and they'd be spot on. This tells me that the c400 will probably be a more clinical camera all around - which is great becasue the c70 has a hard time doing that for commercial work on it's own!

Could you do a virtual production with LED volume test with this camera? That would enable you to also demonstrate the auto clear scan mode and I would put it also with the C500 Mark two and C300 mark three in the same test. Make it its own video. RED has the global shutter which is excellent for LED volumes. so I’d be curious how clear scan works and demonstrating the differences with the REDs

Thanks for such detailed info. Quite interesting to see the match with C70. I’m sure they will match perfectly well in most situations (definitely not at high ISO’s). I was actually quite surprised to see though that my immediate preference was for the image on the right hand side, so the C70, just by a hair. The C400 is features galore by comparison of course. In a way it is quite nice to see that the C70 and C300miii are not ‘dead’ as a lot of camera releases tend to suggest.

@@lerecklessbadger2411 the c70 needs a little touch of sharpness in most instances, but captures people and skin tones very well in most cases. I've never found it to be too soft, but understand what you mean when you hold it up against a lot of it's competition. If anything the c400 will look more comparable to every other cam at this level with similar specs. A welcome change for me since I mainly shoot commercial, but I've always loved the image the c70 produces!

@@MrMoviePhoneEx Yeah agreed. I can see why people think the C70/C300mkiii is soft when put side by side with Sony cameras, but I haven’t had a single client or production house question sharpness in the four years I’ve used a C70. As you say it does capture faces very well, and I guess what I shoot a lot of the time is interviews and accompanying b-roll so perhaps it depends what most of your work is. I’m going to hang onto my C70 for as long as I can I think. I’m sure I’ll get tempted by something! Curious to see what Sony comes up with next as well as the C400 being out there. Might rent the C400 when required perhaps.

I was hoping there would be a DR test comparison to the C500 mark II. A Canon representative said the C400 has the highest dynamic range of any Canon model to date. But from your other video, it sounded like it didn’t based on over and under exposure, which I don’t find very useful to be honest. I prefer an actual number to compare, as the manufacturers lie like sidewalks and by a LOT. I would love to see a CineD style lab test chart with the graph showing medium results. The C500 has the highest dynamic range next to Arri cameras according to CineD. I would go there, but they haven’t tested the camera at all. I am subscribed to you guys and I appreciate the excellent reviews you do despite my comment here. Thank you so much!

I believe Canon said highest dynamic range of any of their "full frame" cameras. I know the S35 DGO sensors are great but IMO If it's close to or better than the C500mkii then I think we're in for a treat. @@Cameraonthemove669 We've managed to have a quick hands on with a C400 and compared it to the C500mkii and a C70 and FX6 all using Canon CNE 50mm (35mm on c70). The C500 was a bit blue/magenta and the C400 leaned warm/green but both are correctable and could be different CNE sets behaving slightly differently. The C400 has much cleaner shadows in XAVC but they are smudgier and with less over all saturation in the deepest shadows where as C500 got honestly quite ugly. The C500 did have more detail in the noise but it's colour noise and some of it is more fixed / doesn't clean up as nicely and looks less filmic IMO. In RAW the noise is similar but the C400 cleans up much better, needing less than half the de-noising, but IDK if I'd say you'd get another stop out of it, just that it cleans up better. Lastly, highlights seemed to roll off very similarly, maybe a tiny hair better on C400 but margin of error stuff in the highlights IMO. The FX6 performed the worst, not a surprise, but even at ISO 12800 the C400 was much cleaner. Like, a lot cleaner. Which was surprising to me.

We are waiting to see if third party companies could offer us options. Black Magic has such monitor but no one has tested it as far as I know.

I think it has to do with the sensor. Full frame & larger sensor has less contrast & tend to push a little blue than Super 35. I notice this on Fujifilm gfx vs Fujifilm space sensor too

You can straight away tell that A was the C400. It looks like a mirrorless camera as opposed to the image that comes out of C70 and C500. why is that?

It’s a nice camera but Sony really knows video and has the products and track record to prove it.

No matter how you look at it, The vertical sensor size is 24mm, and the thumbnail is a photo of the C400 body with the sensor exposed.
11 seconds into the video, the camera blurts out "Height 19mm" in large letters, which made me burst out laughing lol
(Of course, this is true within the effective pixel count that we can use)

That SDI delay is horrible and it’s absolutely useless for pulling focus or anything that requires real time monitoring this 400 is a nothing burger once again. Canon is still living in the past.

@@alexanderdavidyuk5027but to answer your question, Fx6 has around 100-120ms latency, Arris have around 20ms (virtually none). Overall it is not a very big factor unless you are having to remotely pull focus on a very intense scenes. And honestly between 100ms and 160ms there is barely any noticeable difference. The only difference I notice is with Arri Cameras because it is so low.

I assume the test was made with the 12G SDI-port. The MON-port is most likely quicker. Perhaps CVP can confirm this?
