Its a lot better to just...drink in the creep atmosphere rather then listen to some on scream about things that we can clearly see and not pay attention. Also thank god you figured out real quick that those frogs needed air and you saved them.
Ok... story
A flood impacted a forest... (no shit Sherlock) but that flood brought a fungi or parasite that took over the frogs underwater (they look like cows or moose but if you turn that head upside down)
They look for a host so they don’t die of overfilling with oxygen so the green fungi transforms the frogs into usable ones for other fungi, the problem is that they now depend on oxygen to survive (thats why they randomly die)
My theory is that the final boss was covering some type of cave entrance or something and needed way more frogs too get rid of the oxygen so that they dont die of overfilling
I did think the jellyfish things were moose creatures, but listening now it kinda sounds like a really deep frog croak
I don't exactly get how this is really that scary or creepy. Its just an "endurance" styled arcade game where you need to avoid jellyfish with frog corpses for a head. And (almost making them look moose-like. They even make moose-like sounds) and defeat what looks like the queen at the bottom. Simple as that.
Probably the lack of explanation, reason, and logic is what gets to people. People are scared of what they can't understand :P
It's probably scary trying to run from the creatures because they can move fast. And it's less of being scary or creepy and of more of just being eerie because of how mysterious deep water is.
I can do this with any horror game you name.
I don't get how Resident Evil is creepy, it's just a management-style point n click where you need to avoid zombies. Simple as that.

What does naming what you do in the game have to do with it being scary?

The GYO videogame adaptation seems really weird.
I don’t know why, but games that look old with very low graphics just give me the creeps. Sometimes games don’t have to look really good. They can look old and have a better feeling and understanding of what kinds game this is.
