- FISHING WITH A HOMEMADE FISHING REEL! Will it work or will it fail? In today's video I make a fishing reel out of materials I have laying around and go live bait fishing with it to put it to the test! It was fun to make a wooden fishing reel / homemade fishing reel and I will build an even BETTER homemade fishing reel if you all enjoyed this video! This reel DID prove itself today and I have to admit it was fun to fish with! Can't wait to go out and go live bait fishing with my homemade reel again!

*Awesome reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend especially for the price! No problems so far. Reeled in a 14lb laker yesterday and performed great. (5-10 min reel in time) Love the drag adjustment.*
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well czcams.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
This caught my attention. I've never seen anyone else make a reel out of scrapes around the garage. Definitely badass.

Heck yeah I appreciate the idea. I used a little section of 3 inch PVC pipe I flattened it and then created a template that folds to the same exact shape that you have but it's one piece

Mongoose Pro this work use just a reel spool , Or Zebco 202 reel, or Bait cast reel . No rod. Works even better. Justifying fishing reels with line on them . Put hook and Sinker easy enough. Been doing it for years.

Hi dear bro I am Kashif Gill from Karachi Pakistan bro you made reel with wooden material which have high friction that why it's not working properly a little advise for you insert bearings at both sides of the spool and put a gear at left side and make a anti reverse system then it will become a real fishing reel.

What you are writing on the paper is so small ,not visible in you tube video.
You need to learn how to put the fish you catch back in the water properly. You don't just throw them back in. Go to the waters edge and let the fish swim out of your hand.
