Don't use Lineart 🖋️Full Digital Drawing Process Clip Studio Paint [Speedpaint]

  • Hey!
    What is your experience with trying new methods?
    So I tried something new. In the middle of the illustration process I decided not to use lineart for this art work. So I skipped it. And I can tell you...this was quite challenging.
    So let’s join my drawing process and watch me suffer haha
    I learned a lot while doing this. First, it took much more time. In total up to 40h pure working time. I had problems with fitting the character into the scene. So there’s still a lot for me to improve.
    As conclusion I can say that I won’t skip the lineart entirely in my future art pieces but I will include more free rendering and background elements to give the character a context.

    See, this is the kind of tutorial video I need. No transitions between the person and the canvas, no voiceover or anything else. Just the unfiltered painting process and some notes explaining the process. A blessing this video is.

    This is so good!!!the rendering on the metal parts is just so amazing and at the background part you said you were having trouble fitting the character into the bg so if you want to draw bg again I would say draw bg first then it will be easier to make the character blend into the bg but ngl I like your drawing against black background that you normally do because of you I started putting my drawings against black bg idk black bg just slaps😅

    • @kurohshiro
      @kurohshiro  Před 6 měsíci +42

      Oh yes! Definitely. To be honest I always think the character is the most important part in my art, so I draw them first. But ofc this makes it harder to fit into the background later. It's a brilliant tip to draw plan background and character at the same time and work simultaneously on them. Thanks a lot for your feedback :3

    • @colzy6241
      @colzy6241 Před 6 měsíci +15

      @@kurohshiroWhat I always do, is: sketch the character with base colours, draw the background or at least the basic colours and shapes to know what light will bounce off and shadows will form on the character later on and then proceed with the character.

    Seeing you draw Genshin characters like this makes me realise just how many details they have in their designs. I love Genshin and adore the character designs but they are quite intimidating so I haven't drawn anyone from there yet but hopefully I will sometime in the future. This was such a good illustration, I had not even noticed that there was no lineart! It's so impressive how many methods you have for creating art, this may give me the courage to try something risky and new whenever something isn't working. Thank you as always for your helpful videos! ☺

    • @kurohshiro
      @kurohshiro  Před 6 měsíci +8

      That's a wonderful mindset! Sometimes art can be really frustrating. Either I drop a piece before I go insane and move on to a new one (that's why I always work on several pieces at the same time) or I try something entirely out of my comfort zone like in this one: a background and no lineart haha

I'm still attempting your full art process you did in a previous video but I will definitely give this one a try when I work on another character! Also, I appreciate that you showed your struggle with creating the background and explaining how all artists struggle at different stages and times. Oh! This is my method I arrived at after about 14 years and also getting sick of lineart's difficulties to edit shapes after most of the color and rendering was done.. Ive never seen such a high level execution shared this way, thank you!. It takes long, but its much more flexible in subtle adjustments and really improves your palette condition fast.

    You have no idea how to find your channel is like a blessing for me, I just installed CSP but I was so used to my old drawing program that "the new work environment" had made me nervous about continuing my drawings - since I don't do lineart- so every piece what I did, I gave up on painting.. The way you explain it in such a simple yet detailed way helps me a lot to try to get use to it in some way, not to mention your art is amazing and it's cool to see your process always :) In short, thank you.

    as always thank you so so muchhh for sharing your methods, i often draw along to your videos bc they inspire me so much and even help me get over artblock :D can’t wait for the next one, and have a nice day/night !!

    this was pretty interesting to watch, was originally planning to watch while I worked on my own fanart, but ended up stopping and watching the whole thing. I first started out watching mikeymegamega's tutorial on making digital art, and I had a layer for everything, but then I got tired of having so many layers and decided to try just using 1 layer. It frees me from having to keep finding the layer that I'm supposed to be on, but then also kinda prevents me from modifying only the parts I want to modify, so I guess having some layers is the way to go

    Skipping the lineart in this method is something you can do when you're more experienced and confident about rendering shapes and shadows. It can sometimes be faster and feels more organic, though it's certainly one of those 'learn the rules before you break them' sort of techniques.

    oof I've tried the lasso tool before but dang its so hard to get used to it haha, and you're here nailing it man! also i like how you picked your colors tho, it matches the whole piece

      Agreed! I find it so hard to make nice shapes with the lasso tool, like without weird jagged edges and bumps TvT feels so strange to use haha

    yay! my style evolved into a lineless one and it's rare to see others try it out too even though I absolutely love the vibe it creates. I think this also gave me a lot of points I can improve on, seeing things I myself am not as good at yet :D
    my experience with trying out new stuff is that it usually has a great impact on my style(s). and whenever I try out something new, both my main style and chibi style get changes of different magnitude, depending on how much I actually had fun with the new technique I tried

    • @kurohshiro
      @kurohshiro  Před 6 měsíci +1

      That's actually very interesting to hear! But it makes sense that trying out new methods changes the way the final illustration looks like. I guess with implementing something over and over again is what makes a style distinguishable and remarkable. So trying new things and repeating the techniques we learned to like is key ^^ thanks for your comment!
