I think that one of the biggest problems is that people don’t talk about it as often as they talk about any other female health issue. Raising awareness about PCOS is paramount to help girls get early diagnosis, know what to do once they are aware of the fact they have it and make the right decisions about their lifestyle. Thanks for sharing your experience

I do know that it is impacted by what I have eaten or sometimes if im too busy to notice that It’s time to eat ( yes I know I shouldn’t do that but sometimes I slip up especially when I’m focused seriously on something) . So I would say that working on your food choices will help a lot. Again it’s the hormonal imbalance that is causing the issue. Anything you can do to balance them should help too.

I had horrible acne and oily skin, mood swings, hair growth in places ya girl didnt want it to grow, and then the struggle of my boyfriend asking if I can get pregnant. I recently cut meat out and that seemed to help my bloating, gas and acne a bit. What are your symptoms? I have tried yoga which really helps. So I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this week- I’m 19 and gained over 30 lbs over my first year at college and my period haven’t been regular in months. So when I went to my OBGYN (who I trust with my life) he immediately did all the tests and came back positive for high levels of androgen and insulin resistance. My Dr. said that he recommends 3 ways of helping PCOS 1) A low dosage of birth control to help reset my cycle
    2) Metformin a medicine to help my insulin resistance and blood sugar levels
    3) a low carb and sugar diet as I can’t sustain a keto diet at school
I’ve hear horror stories of PCOS women using birth control, so I want to hear from both sides of the spectrum? Why do some love it vs hate it?
I’m young and the only one in my family with this problem. I’m obviously terrified but excited for a change in my health and happiness!

Gianna Casale I used to take birth control and metformin and it worked for me especially with weight loss. But birth control can cause an increased of appetite. However, the metformin should tackle that increased appetite. I say try it and if you don’t like birth control or metformin side effects then talk to your doctor about it.

Hi, if you're new to the club, welcome!! Here are few thing you need to do immediately :-
1:- throw away the pills your gynic gave you. They are absolutely worse. If your PCOS is in the beginning stage you CAN control alot of symptom. I didn't know this but my facial hair growth was actually boosted by my pills.
2:- pill bleeds are not periods (louder for the people at the back). You are physically taking this hormone for outside which will give you depression eventually, forcing your body to bleed, and this is not period.
3:- cranberries, papaya, pineapple, walnuts, spearmint tea, flax seeds, chia seeds , absolute dark chocolate - your new best friends. Eat these every day (except for the fruits, you can alternate them). These foods naturally are good for estrogen production or help with pcos.
4:- diary, sugar, gluten. What do these all have in common? A big NO. These really mess with the insulin in your body. And girl diabeties is the last thing you want rn.
5:- hair fall, facial hair and back pain- high testrostron levels. Fatiuge-some thing to do with thyroid. Please speak to your gynic about this, get your thyroid checked.
6:- yoga = win win. Why? simple, it's easy, works effectively and you can do it on your bed!! How cool is that.
When ever I want my period I just eat a lot of mangoes, cranberries, papaya and pineapple. I also do abdominal yoga. It really help. This is what I've learnt from listening to my body. So get a pair of ear phones and listen to yours to. It's not that hard, you will become better and happier eventually. Oh also I eat a lot of carbs to get my period. I don't know why this works but it works (at least for me). In case of you ever feel lonely feel free to hit me on ig @survive_highschool_with_me. I might make this into a pcod related page but IDK.

I did suffer from infertility while trying to conceive, but fertility treatments worked (yay!) and now the challenge is avoiding gestational diabetes, which women with PCOS are at higher risk for. Your tip of having protein and fat with every meal is spot on for balancing blood sugar, and you can also play with the macro ratios in your meals (and the overall carb count) to see what you tolerate. Everyone’s different, but this is a great place to start.

I have been told by multiple doctors to lose 5-10% to help my cycles.... Like that totally worked. 😒 *sarcasm*
My obgyn said I had obesity "caused" PCOS... Hmmmm. Ignoring all the other problems such as I was a NORMAL weight until about puberty, and my noticable symptoms started when I was in an extremely stressed time (moved provinces, was in a horrible job, started school and injured my good knee within a year)- oh and before my blood tests which showed insulin resistance which can cause obesity.
He also diagnosed me with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease without a ultrasound and just based on liver enzymes.
Lo and behold, my gallbladder was removed this year and everything came back NORMAL afterwards. Including C-reaactive protein which is a inflammation measure. And he was supposed to be an "expert" in PCOS. I was pissed.

I have been seeing a fertility specialist for about 6 months and get regular ultrasounds. I always have 10+ follicles on each follicle. The nurse explained that this means my hormones are being spread really thinly over the high amount of follicles I have. Does anyone have this high number of follicles? If you follow a low carb diet, did your ultrasound results change and did you see less follicles each month?

PCOS sucks man. Found out when I was 15, hormone therapy and the pill turned out to have a terrible reaction with me, and I already eat healthy and I'm at a healthy, if a little low, weight. My worst symptom is just THE PAIN (I also have an abnormally large amount of cysts on both sides, and uteran scarring due to hormone therapy). My abdomen feels like it's being torn to shreds and no amount of doctor-prescribed medication helps. Any of you PCOS girls know a way to deal with it?

I am a girl and i became 18 this month. I have gotten thick hairs on my boobs, chin and butt when i was 16. I also have gotten bad acne on my chin and cheeks out of the blue when i was 16. And also when i was 16 my hair start falling out. Im save to say that i have lost half of my hair.. i also have noticable love handles, and is it really hard to stay on one weight for me. i had my hormones tested but they were Stable. I went to the gynecologist en did a echo (a outside echo, not a inside one) and the gynecologist couldnt see anything incorrect. When i search my symptons up all i see is ‘pcos’ but my doctor said that thats not possible because i still get my periode often. And also because the gynecologist couldnt find anything. Does anybody think that i have still PCOS? Because my doctor doesnt take me serious she didnt help me at all. What could i do next? What should i ask my doctor for? I hope someone anwsers, im really sad about al these symptons.. (sorry for my english it isnt my first language)

NO, it actually isn't. Know that it's NOT FIXING YOUR BODY (back then I thought they were, go figure). It LOOKS like pills are helping you (hair is great, boobs are awesome, skin is beautiful), BUT you're NOT tackling the imbalance from the inside (I actually got cysts in my boobs, 4 of them, and horrible digestive problems). It's like drying the floor with the water open, you can keep drying as much as you like, it's never going to dry unless you close the water flow. So: no more contraceptive pills! I hate gynos who prescribe this crap automatically. Do remove processed foods and sugary stuff, reduce carbs (avoid refined, eat wholegrain), eat organic as much as possible, totaly remove junk food, drink plenty of water (2 liters per day), REMOVE SOY and DAIRY PRODUCTS (they imbalance your hormones even more), exercise (your body was made to move, so workout everyday, go for walks, dance, you name it, but move it - it's preferable to have more strength exercises than cardio coz cardio gets your hormones out of wack even more), do practice meditation to decrease your mood swings, spend time in nature to recharge (it's healthy and good for the soul). If you want to take supplements, go ahead but pills to sleep I think it's wrong too... In case you may have trouble sleeping, again, it's a consequence of the imbalance, so meditation and breathing exercises are pure gold. YOU NEED TO BALANCE AND WIND DOWN YOUR BODY. I'm not against doctors at all, but we need to be more conscious and pay attention to what happens to us and what the body is telling you. This addiction to pills in the Western world is pathetic and GENERALLY SPEAKING (I said, generally speaking, if you must take pills for serious illnesses, of course, go ahead) it just translates into lazyness and people not willing to listen to their bodies which are in pain-it's easier to just take a pill and fix all but not go to the SOURCE CAUSING THE PAIN. Pay attention to how you feel and what makes you feel wrong, whatever you eat, whatever you do, whoever you hang out with. Treat your body right and love it, remove toxicity in every form (food, environments, people, activities). AND, if you treat your body right, it will be healthy again and you'll be able to conceive without forcing anything. If you can't conceive, it's because there's something wrong and _THAT_ needs to be tackled, not forcing your body to conceive by being bombarded with other hormones. The sooner you start actually taking care of yourself, the better. If you don't believe me, fair enough, the best you can do is: STUDY PCOS, read as many books and research papers as you can, think, there's a lot of information out there and learn from your mistakes and share it with the rest of us. - Signed: Someone who's been diagnosed with PCOS 12 years ago, put on different pills, with horrible side effects in the long term like cysts in my breasts, horrible digestion problems, my gyno made a lot of mistakes and I had to learn from them. Study it for yourself so when you meet with your practioners you are PREPARED to talk about PCOS and find out if they're the right fit for you. One book I highly recommend reading is 8 STEPS TO REVERSE PCOS by Dr. Fiona McCulloch, I wish she had published it sooner. - Much Love, I hope this makes you think so you can find out for yourself! all the best ;-) Do use the medication app Calm, it has helped me a lot, even the masterclasses they have on nutrition, depression, happiness and more. One of the best investments I've ever made!
