Was lucky enough to be invited to Cleveland for the incredible show, one of my biggest memories was James Brown hitting the stage with an ARMY of people well after midnight and blowing the place apart. I was no James Brown fan, but that changed that morning.
I was there...crashed the concert with 20+ friends. Dont ask we all got in for free and almost front row... what a day and what a show.
I was there. $160 ticket at the old stadium. There were rumors of the Stones playing. They never showed but everyone else did. James Brown, Bob Dylan, The Boss, Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry. Awesome show. Over 8 hours long. It was simulcast on HBO (I used to have the full 8 hours on tape). This is HBO's edited version. Three acts destroyed that stadium that day. George Clinton and P-Funk, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and The Kinks. This was actually the Kinks last performance ever.
I was 17, and paid the same for my seat on the floor. Then, I found an empty SOLO cup, put the ticket in it, and passed it up to my dad, who gave it to my sister, who gave it to my mom, who gave it back to my dad, who gave it to someone else. People just kept using that trick all night. It was the magic ticket that night.
you saw the Kinks. to me that's the top
Man, E Street band and Chuck Berry. Would have loved to have been there. Mr.Berry has been one of my favorites for a long time.
@Mike Smith Then with Jerry Lee Lewis and later Bruce with Dylan. It was so clear Springsteen was the heir apparent to the throne. It was nice to see him get that respect.
Play Nina Simone play Cinema Nina Simone songs
I'm from Cleveland and remember this concert well. Downtown Cleveland was crazy. A friend had a small sandwich shop and she said that I had just missed Sheryl Crow.
The Flats-Crazy !
So you did not miss anyone. Got it.
I remember being at this concert in 1995. It was EPIC and CLEVELAND was definitely shining brightly!!! The concert of a lifetime!!!
What makes it the greatest concert I have ever attended is not just the performances but that big stars understood why they were there and played their roles for rock n roll. Melissa Ethridge for example, the Kinks, Heart, Slash all in tribute to other heroes.
Absolutely. We don’t often get so see how well the younger stars understand what came before. Rock & Roll tributes at their finest-AND, the performers all seem to be having a grand time together! I’m 78 now, and this concert still gets me all misty!
I just found an old VHS tape with the last four hours and twenty three minutes of the HBO simulcast. From the point Sheryl Crow says "Cleveland you are one lucky city" to the end of the show. Recorded in hifi stereo too. Famous artists from all genres with some unexpected jams. Neil Young on stage with Led Zeppelin. A young John Stewart talking to all those legends. Definitely a historic show and performances.I'm gonna try to get it digitized so I can share it.
do it , do it!
If you do..Can you share it??? This is amazing...Cheers!! What a lovely time I had listening but It won't let me SAVE IT...This blew me to Rock n Roll heaven!!
I was able to do this with the entire version (6 hours) but it was flagged with copyright issues and now it is "unlisted" with a shareable link..
Thank you for the video. Life is better with music.🎤🎸🎵🥁
Brilliant 👍👏👏🎶🎸🎵🎸🎶 I remember watching as it premiered in 95.
Was there in ‘95 and the stands were shaking.Spent 5 hours visiting the Hall with my best friend Mike and we still didn’t have time to see EVERYTHING!
This was the last time these legends would play on the same stage. What a great show.missed half running around the stadium after drinking all afternoon at Shooters.many thanks to whoever put this up. All I could ever find from this show is half a crappy videotape. But James Brown,Johnny Cash,Al Green,Little Richard,Allman Brothers,Chuck and Aretha,Fogerty,Sly....and didn’t this show run about 7 or 8 hours.? Who else but the R&RHofF and Cleveland could put on a good Rock and Roll mix like this, Way to goooo, Ohio.......wow man.
I have this very program the day it aired on a vhs tape in my collection of tapes.
So much missing from the show. It's been a long time, but I do remember that George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic brought the audience to life. So exciting!
I never saw this till now..Wow..This is so enjoyable..Too bad..I can't save it..This is unbelievable!! All my favs. On 1 show!!! Where I was..only God knows! Great. Great. Great!
Awesome show! I saw a similarly all-star concert like this one a year prior in Memphis for an all-star tribute concert to Elvis. EVERYBODY was there that night.
We were there - my daughter and I. Amazing concert - l-o-n-g but incredible. I’ve tried to find a DVD of the concert but this is as close as I got. Thanks for posting. Hope some day to get the hold recording. BTW - Aretha Franklin was incredible.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame forever!!!!!!🎤🎸🎵🥁
@2:46:33 The Big Man hugging The Godfather of Soul!!! What a moment in time!!!
I was there! Stealth Bomber flew over head to start the show, an amazing day.
This is one of the best concert I've ever seen besides Bruce Springsteen
Bruce is star struck 💙💙☮️
My thoughts exactly
me too- chuck is the shape of greatness.
Awesome to watch this edited version again! Wish I could have attended, but…I was a very “responsible adult,” already 50 years old then, but building my legacy, I guess- by working hard at a job I loved: Designing Curriculum and teaching my Writing Workshop to 13-to-18-year-old adolescents in a Montessori Secondary School while attending Graduate School. Thought I was indispensable. And now, I still regret NOT taking the few days off to grab my husband & fly us from PDX to Cleveland… PEOPLE! DO NOT MISS THESE EVENTS if you have a chance to be actually there!
the crazy guru-king of soul, the rev. a national treasure.
Thanks RRHOF. Great memories. Had a great time at the show! So fortunate to have seen all of these legends of rock.
I missed half
the show, started drinking at Shooters too early.
I was there too! Right in front of the stage. Drummer for The Pretenders gave me tickets.
Joseph Cooney hahahahaha Good times!
JOHNNY CASH performs at @44:44. Can't believe they didn't list him in the description. Under no circumstances should Johnny Cash ever be referred to as "...and more." Edit: ARETHA FRANKLIN too @48:30! Another legend left off the list.
Johnny Cash was actually the surprise act that night after a couple of acts dropped off the bill. So he wouldn't have been included in the advertised lineup anyway.
@ Scott S They also failed to include The Queen of Soul or the best act of the night, Al Green who brought the house DOWN. But the description included the irredeemably talentless crow in the description. Ridiculous.
Just maybe Bob Dylan should be listed?
So many all-time greats💕 too numerous to mention but especially loved Eric Burdon ❤️ & Bon Jovi💜
Real deal old school!
I was at home watching live on HBO with a blank tape in the vcr
I always wish they'd release this full show on dvd

The best...🎤🎵🎶🎸..💃🕺💃
This is missing one of the all-time great moments of turning blooper-into-brilliance, Ann & Nancy Wilson's "Love Hurts." After a tuning issue, Ann freaking WAILS. Would love to see that.
@ Tim Tebow. Agreed. Great rendition. Martha Reeves & The Vandellas are missing, too, as is Dr. John. But I blame that last one on Natalie Merchant's antics.
I have the entire version and was able to digitize it and upload but, due to copyright issues, it has been blocked from worldwide viewing. I now have it as "unlisted" and can share the link.

Bellissimo!
Wow!!!
I was there. It was everything you would expect
I met Little Richard and Mr Cleveland himself, Drew Carey!!!!
I want the DVD of this.. I asked a while ago when I was at RRHOF and they said it hadn’t been released
PAKiller1 I inquired once too and they told me something like that or that Time- Life or somebody had the rights. Somehow, I managed to get about half of the show videotaped.
@@josephcooney7952 probably Time Warner since HBO broadcast the show live
I have the full version! Recorded it as it was broadcast. The quality isn't the best (It was 1995 after all - No HDTV or 16:9) But at least I have it! I did upload it but is was blocked for copyright issues. Was able to change it to "unlisted", with a shareable link.
I am still waiting for the Guess Who to get in
WTF I THOUGHT THEY WERE IN
@@davidayer2168 No and neither is Bad Company or Jim Croce. But Abba is.......UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I watched this live at home in Hollywood at chucks house.
Clarence & Danny @ 1:56:03............so sweet. Sigh. RIP.
THATS ROCK AND ROLL!!
Great guitarist!!!
Clarence Clemons, Danny Federici, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Lou Reed, and Gregg Allman are among those who have been contestants on Celebrity Bucket Kickers.
Jerry Lee still the top of the heap. Period
It was a great time in Cleveland
I was there too !
I was here!!
Omg Chrissy! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I Love her to this day..My Idol..She is the absolute BEST!!
I’m so glad I watched MTV back in the early days otherwise I wouldn’t have known groups like The Pretenders !!! She definitely is one of the best voices in Rock and beyond!!!! 😊❤
The Dylan set is astonishing! I like his electricfied All Along the Watchtower better than Hendrix (which is also great!).
The Kinks showed up half drunk not giving a shit. GOAT’s
I was there!
I have searched the Internet several times over the last few years for a song from this concert (Watchtower?) where Bob Dylan's guitarist goes nuts on a lead solo (I think he must have been on speed) that blew me away. It was included in the full concert. If anyone can tell me where I might find any more songs from this concert, I'd be grateful.

I felt so sorry for the kinks! why was their sound so low?! that is why they thought no one was getting into it. who did that to them, lol! his mic was so low!!!! i would have been so mad if i had been there and couldn't hear the kinks!!!!
Funniest thing is the guitar tech who tried 3 attempts to switch guitars with John Fogerty in between songs lolol imagine having such a close up cameo on such a huge historical concert and it's of you looking and feeling like an idiot lolol he had on a badass tee shirt though! 😎
I went to this show and still have my program, poster and stub. Highlights were Johnny Cash, Chuck, Wilson sisters doing Zep, Fogerty, Burdon, The MGs, Iggy, Chrysie. I was extremely upset Alice In Chains canceled. I waited forever for their new record and it just came out so i was hoping to see them play a few new ones. Snoop couldn’t make it either Lol. I still don’t get Springsteen. We went to the bathroom and for more drinks when he came on. The ex whined to leave a little early so of course i missed James Brown and Little Richard. Got to see many artists I normally wouldn’t have
1:22:00 George Clinton P-Funk All Stars with Larry Graham doing "Thank You Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin"
where is bruce hornsby’s i know you rider preference?
Al Green took over the state of Ohio @ 26:00. Sublime.

John Mellencamp chewing gum while singing! Never can figure out how people do that. Choke
John Lennon did that too
@@scottprice2776 come to think of it I guess I do remember seeing him doing that
From what I’ve heard it’s to make sure their throats don’t get dry while they’re singing. Marvin Gaye did this as well!😊
@@adrianlyord5300 Still can't figure out how they don't gag on it.
@@jillmichel8226 I know right lol 😝 I guess they are so used to it it’s probably second nature?!
Chuck needs more mic!!
John Fogerty: "What's a hoodoo?"
Would have been nice had whoever ripped this did a little reasearch into deinterlacing...
I was there, but all I remember was Johnny Cash...and Ted Henry, he was sitting in front of me....and a really shitty sound system.
They cut Bon Jovis AWESOME version of A Little Help From My Friends?
@Jason Floyd That is because the PTB have taste. That hair band loser should have been kicked off the planet for even considering a Beatles cover. Or a career in music.
Watching this on 5/24/23 Tina died & the algorithm got me to this concert somehow. What is amazing is sly & the fa.ily stone w/ George Clinton was by far the best performance. Just remember opinions are like assholes,we all have one. Heart was a close 2nd. Just some of thier performance they seem to be struggling early on with the superior musicianship of Jimmy Paige, & his ability to master playing anything w/ strings. So, who could fault them? Really? Jerry Lee was awesome too
I don’t think I would ever pay any money to see Bob Dylan
I agree-too nasally for my tastes. Pretty good poet, though…
Thanks for sharing what you don't think
Pretenders?
Much love to the Pretenders I love them!!!!!❤
I could be with Springsteen for 1,000 years and still not look as bored as his wife does @ 1:38:23 and it wasn't even a song he has done that many times. Or @ 1:54:42??? WTH??? Sometimes God bestows gifts on the wrong people.
Melissa Etheridge isn’t bad either…
Forever Young with bruce and Dylan was painful...I dont think it shouldve happened ...Thaz juz my opinion but Dylan did not like being there
i'm m i'm😅
Bon Jovi stole the show as always
LOL Bon Jovi stole the show from Little Richard, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan....? Only thing he stole that night was oxygen.

country music is no rock music....
@Rafael Botter It's The Rock & Roll HOF. Rock & Roll was born from all other forms of music, including country.
Rap is not Rock and Roll either yet rap artists are in. Sex Pistols were inducted but refused to attend. Punk isn't RR either. It's all about ratings.
First Cher then shit crow. I think Gregg Allman went to his grave going after women that were so beneath him they did not deserve to be on the same planet as he was. And @ 2:13:49 has got to be the worst sound ever recorded. My God she is HORRIBLE!!!
I was there working on full time staff for the #rockandrollhalloffame and we will always remember that beautiful summer night in Cleveland, Ohio kicking off Labor Day weekend 1995!
