  • Many bird owners have basic handling mishaps and miscommunication with their parrots. In this video we demo how to fix these as well as how to get a bird to land on your hand instead of your arm when flight training.

    Lovely bird. I also like how well the people where taking in what you said. They weren't justifying why they did what they did, just explaining what they thought then taking in the new information you presented them. It was lovely to watch.

    I have gotten so much value from the momentum/intention tip. I watched a Birdtricks video from a few years back that discussed "hanging up the bird" along with momentum and intention. Utilizing that tip, I no longer have any trouble putting my bird in her cage (she also gets rewarded for going in her cage, so that helps too). As well, when I put her down on a perch or surface, she goes easily because of that. It's helped so much!

    I have two eclectus parrots and the male is so easy to train and ready to learn new tricks, plus he's the best indoor flyer I've ever seen. The female was raised by someone else and is much harder to teach things without my husband and other people being consistent. Training parrots comes after training people lol.

    I managed to switch my little Pacific parrotlet over to just pellets rather than pellets and seeds (he refuses to eat moist foods at all) and have had so much more success. We have been doing a quick treat session every day for this week and I've got him eating off the back of my hand or millet held between my fingers. Now I've just gotta get him to trust me enough to step onto my hand. Thanks so much for the videos. I feel like I'm finally making headway and it's great

    This is exactly what I needed! I decided to start focusing on indoor flight training with my fearful jenday conure, Lydia, and she picked it up WAY faster than I thought! When she realized she could use flight to get to me she was all about it, but she only ever lands on my back when I pretend I'm walking away. You guys were my first stop to figure out what to do!!😁❤

Seeing it is the best research lol. About a month until I get her :) she’s 8 months old. Very excited for our first meeting next week! I’ve only ever talked to her through her cage before.

    What a smart girl Penny is! My caique likes to land on my fingers and then flip upside down. 😂 Not long after I become the jungle gym. He has more energy than my little nephew! I've been listening to his personal rendition of The Addams Family for about 10mins now, where his little hops are the snaps. He is such a light in my life. Birds are so special.

    I have a cockatiel who will only land on my arm. I'm still taming her (had her about 6 months) and she still scared of pretty much everything. I can't approach her with my hand as this seems to terrify her. getting her out her cage I usually hold some millet and she will eventually hop out and just onto my arm

  • @anitaorban-magashazy5806

    My ringneck lands always on my arm instead of my hand as he is scared of my hand for some reason and bit me if I want to trick him. I guess first I need to work on that.

    • @animallover5626
      @animallover5626 Před 4 lety +1

      @@animallover5626 thanks for the info. Ill definitely keep that in mind. But i just want them to able to be cool with each other. I dont want the cat really near my bird especially without me being there to supervise. But i also dont want him going after her. What im afraid of is that if my cat is somehow in the same room as my bird without me knowing, he'll think of her as prey or as a toy to pounce on. Im hoping that if i can get them to be cool around each other, then this might not happen. But I'm not looking to find a way for them to just hang out with each other. If it's absolutely imperitive that i keep them seperate i will try my best. I just thought that this may turn out to be safer.

    If I touch my boys foot so he doesn't move up my arm he freaks out and flies off, so there's no way I could hold his foot!

    • @BirdTricks
      @BirdTricks  Před 4 lety

      That just means you need to work in shorter approximations than just going for it. If you were going to teach your bird to lay on its back, you would reward each and every movements towards it vs just flipping your bird over and expecting the behavior right away. Same with the foot holding - there are ways to condition it positively and then work up to longer duration's of holding it.
