Wow!! It's great to see you back on youtube. It's been a long, long time. I'm a veteran,(U.S. Army Reserves), but never got called up even though I was in an infantry unit. All my service and training was here at home. As for trees, I don't know if we have Cottonwood in my area,(mid-atlantic), but we do have plenty of Tulip Poplar which seems comparable to Cottonwood.

Don't have Cottonwoods here in Eastern Kentucky, but have Tulip Poplar, it has many of the same qaulities and uses.. Thanks for the video..

yea I like tulip poplar, but friction fire is much much easier than poplar, like night and day. Love poplar for cordage, peels so easy

Just to confirm how great cottonwood and willow are for bowdrill, I’ve managed to coax embers from both species from freshly cut trees.
Although initially unsuccessful, I found the liberal use of ash to create enough friction to generate drying cycles, eventually leading to success.

sounds like you're not applying enough downward pressure in your handhold.

Put this series on a DVD, please. I would absolutely buy it. Thank you! 🥾🏔️
