Timing How Fast I Can Remove the Seats from my Dodge Challenger 1320 to go Drag Racing

  • We all know less weight equals faster cars, but is it worth the time to constantly remove and re-install the seats when your Challenger is also your street and daily car? I wasn't sure until I found out how easy it is, even without power tools. So I decided to add my own little twist to the standard ole seat removal video and time myself to see how long it takes.
    From the moment I hit the start button on the timer I leave this video unedited and uncut to show in real time that it really isn't that much of a hassle. (Sorry if some parts are dark, I was more concerned with the time).
    Next I need to get an air ratchet and see how much faster I can get!

      @Scavenger1320  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, it'll do that anytime any component in the airbag system loses connection. I found a guy on facebook though that makes custom dummy plugs that makes the system think the seats are still plugged in. I haven't had a light on since. I had to get one for my driver seat too since I replaced it with a lightweight Kirkey seat.

    Did you disconnect battery before removing seats? Have seen conflicting information about airbags deploying if you don’t.

    • @Scavenger1320
      @Scavenger1320  Před rokem +1

      No, I've never disconnected the battery before removing/installing seats/plugs/belts/etc., and I've done all that more times than I can remember. I know technically you're supposed to disconnect the battery before doing just about anything on cars these days, but I rarely do, or have ever done. I've also never heard of airbags deploying because of it. Even in all my years working in collision shops where I know a lot of techs don't bother disconnecting the battery either, or in my years as a claims and auto damage adjuster where I've never seen or heard of any damages or claims from people causing airbags deploying from not disconnecting a battery.

    Did your airbag sensor light turn on after removal and installation?

    • @Scavenger1320
      @Scavenger1320  Před 2 lety +1

      The light did turn on after pulling the passenger seat but went right back off as soon as I reinstalled the seat. But now, since I got a lightweight drivers seat to replace the stock one, I actually have a dummy plug that goes in the seat connectors and that keeps the airbag system happy so I don't ever get that light anymore

    • @Scavenger1320
      @Scavenger1320  Před 3 lety

      I think they have to weigh somewhere around that. I haven't actually weighed mine yet, but will eventually. I know stock my car weighed 4140, and then at the track scale during Lone Star Mopar Fest I was right at 4000. Besides the seats the only other things out was all the trunk trim, the plastic dress-up pieces in the engine bay and about 2-3 gallons less of gas.

      @@Scavenger1320 no wonder I got a best of 4.7 last winter in my stock rt . And this summer all I see is 5.2 5.3. I'm in dallas by the way. And wat does above sea level mean? Is that the same thing as d.a??

    • @Scavenger1320
      @Scavenger1320  Před 2 lety

      @@just_a5.7 They're kind of related. Sea level is 0 foot elevation. So take Denver for example. It's called the mile high city because it's a mile above sea level. D.A. is density altitude, it's basically saying that given the weather conditions, it's like being at a certain elevation. So Dallas sits 500 feet above sea level. That's the actual elevation. In the summer, because of the heat and humidity, the DA could be around 3500, meaning the air density is the same that it would be if it were 3500 feet above sea level. That all affects a cars performance because engines are basically just air pumps, and at lower altitudes, they perform a lot better because they're getting denser air. Think of people too. Go up into higher elevation and it gets harder to breath and performance goes down. That's why the Denver Broncos always have a slight advantage when playing at home because they're trained to perform in worse air.
