- The human brain is an astonishing thing, capable of amazing feats.
Take this sheep farmer, who claims he can identify, as individuals, his whole flock of sheep. He knows each one, despite the fact that they aren’t even given names.
Macdonald Hastings arrives to put him to the test with some woolly imposters. But he soon discovers the farmer may be able to tell sheep apart, but he isn’t nearly as good as recognising BBC presenters…

I've seen a couple of videos in which the sheep in the field recognise their shepherd's voice in the distance, but this is the first video I've seen regarding good shepherds recognising their own flock.
You certainly can't pull the wool over their eyes!
Over in the USA, this clip appeared in cinema newsreels
- accompanying films from 20th Century Flocks and Ewe-niversal.
My dog was a sheep worrier..it would sit on the fence and shout 'Mint sauce! Mint sauce!'
Those sheep are adorable
All those animals and people are likely dead now. This is better than a reminiscence from these people if they told the story. It’s important to have this archive.
Ha ha ha - amazing!
Great video.
Such a lovely place. I miss it so much 😢
This dude knows his inventory. It’s his living. I’m not surprised. My wife knows the serial # of every unit she has at work. It’s impressive, but the motivation is to do a good job & feeding your family. It’s a business too.
That's insane.
He is a magician..
Beautiful animals and now apparantly endangered.
lol I thought he looked like Alan Whicker too actually
Could one could say he's the G.O.A.T?
Sheep look as different from each other as humans do. We only think we're distinctive because we have a special part of the brain for processing faces. With enough practice people can easily tell the difference between animals of the same species.
faaaaaaabulous
Our test of sheep all looked different to me. If you see your sheep every day I'm sure you would recognise them. 🇬🇧
No Kidding I used to love listening to radio Yorkshire,(BBC radio 4).
I was only 3 before I went to school, hearing the accents all talk about the price of wool...then starting school & learning Ba-ba black sheep.
Interesting the way he had to get behind them to recognise them 😆👀
“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me”

You work at NC State?
@@Mick_Ts_Chick No, but I did do a lot of work there about 40 years ago for a BSEE. 😄
@@DavidLeeNCSU I'm just happy we made into the sweet 16 in the tournament. I was a freshman in 82/83 when we won the national championship with Jimmy V.
@@Mick_Ts_Chick I started at State the same semester as Jimmy V. Fall 1980.
Leave the computer at home . Trust the brain !
This is the Welsh citizenship test.
You can’t pull the wool over his eyes apparently ……
Psalm 23
EJ253 Rogan Josh. Yum.
Wales 😅
A lot of his sheep have numbers painted on the side, probably the ones that don't!
Ah, back when England was a nice place to live.
It still is if you haven't ruined your own life by blaming other people for all your problems.
Okay John Gammon
Well…
@@DenkyMannerin fairness England has gone to the dogs, I say this as an outsider.
Lol I live in Pembrokeshire in Wales what about us?
the Welsh do it better, they can recognise any sheep , from behind
Ah the good old days when men were men !
And sheep were nervous !
Jesus is the true good shepherd 'i know my flock.'
