Squirly Shed
Hey John. It would be cool to see you make a sled for that Dewalt table saw
it would be even cooler if you made a sled, for the snow
@@travischristensen746 or a sled to deliver presents for christmas
Suggestion: how about a foldable version of this workbench that can fold flat onto the wall for garage workshops?
As I was watching I was trying to think of a way to do just that. Would be great for smaller shops .
You wouldn’t have the lower shelf, but attach the legs with carriage bolts. I just did this to mine not long ago. There are a few good plans for it and videos if you do a search.
Thank you, as a beginner I’ve done single width finger joints (for shelf brackets in garage) and lap joints (for a plant stand) and I’ve played with plywood end grain (for a mirror frame). This inspires me to keep going with saw skills and joinery practice. Thanks!
I'm an avid maker and just moved as well and was looking to build something exactly like this. Buying the plans so I can knock it out with ease. Thanks John and Team!
I loved this! The basic tool series will be awesome. I’d like to see more shop builds this way since I’m just setting up a new garage. Miter station, router table, etc. a kitchen table with basic tools and maybe even a 3 levels of kitchen table and chairs build with basic tools would be cool. I know in the podcasts you said the crazy epoxy builds perform better, but I like to see these instructional and shop build videos more myself
Thanks austin!
@@John_Malecki 😌😌😌😌😌
I've been using something almost exactly (4' x 8') like that for the last 20 years (but without the wheels). However, as my tool collection has grown, I've run out of room and now need to rip this workbench down. The wheels are a super sweet idea. I LOVE the wheels on yours! Now, I think I'm making two smaller tables, one stationary and one with wheels. I'll keep the two together, but pull the one on wheels out when I need that 8' run. I've got a lot to think about on a Sunday morning...with the football kickoff clock rolling. Thanx guys!
Love this video!! What whould also be cool is 3 levels of tools. I know its about skill but tools do help. Would love to see something like thag
Build ideas:
- tool storage/ charging station combo (update from your original video and could be a three level video).
- Mobile miter saw station
- man cave shed or a shed large enough to swing a golf club in!
- floating shelves
- dining room table
- night stand
- end table for the end of a couch where the top incorporates a sheet of 12x12 mosaic tile
Very new woodworker here and was excited to see your design looked very similar to what I built this summer. My jaw dropped when you had the same reaction I did with the 49x97 for the MDF and I had to stop the video when you stepped on the sheet to fit it in place and broke the corner in the exact same place mine did when I stepped on it to fit! Glad to know I’m not alone!
Yes Daniel! I am just a regular dude out here breaking stuff! hahah
John I've used those casters on a couple of shop carts. You'll want to re-drill the mounting holes for 1/4" bolts and bolt through. The screws will pull out with that much weight regardless of what the packaging says. Otherwise they've worked great for a couple of years.
this type here is my first workbench, even the same lapjoints, instead of the mdf top, i used 2x4s and hand plane it. super sturdy, bought the same caster from amazon and its been great for the past 2 years
Good content, fun presentation but the camera work is making me nauseated.
Hi John and the team. I've recently discovered the channel and I'm hooked. Been binging these vids since. I love how passionate you guys are about your craft. You've inspired me to take a crack at woodworking and I'm going to start with a workbench using some techniques you've shown. Thanks for what you do and keep it up!
Hey John, Building shelving in your new shop by using this method would be great and fairly simple.
1st off, if you already havent. Im going to need a Squiggles, Never Swirls by John on a shirt!
2ndly, lets be honest. It will take the regular yin way longer than 3 hours just because we'll have to keep driving to the big box every hours because we forgot to buy something! 😄
I feel attacked. (lol)
Hey! I resemble that remark.
Should have bought closer. Takes me 3min to drive there from my house and I don't even have to get on anything other then a residential street 🤣🤣
This is a fantastic vid. This is a close copy to the most useful thing I have in my shop. Mines 4x6 and doubles as an outfeed table for my table saw. I will say mine's not as fancy but I get it from a video making perspective. For those who don't have a helper, 1/2 " plywood weighs a hell of a lot less than the particle board and is back to being affordable. The hardest thing for me to get used to is that this isn't a work table you worry about, you just replace pieces. I cut, paint, epoxy, feed animals, store crap, and once I took a nap on it. Thanks again for the content.
Maybe a French cleet wall system depending on what you are doing in your shop for wall storage
Thank you for your videos. I like how you talk throughout the video. You add humor and also show when you mess up to show us how to fix it if we mess up too. Thank you again! I will be using this video as a guide to build my first table.
Love the design. I was thinking of doing something similar and glad you had a great "How to" video. I was oing to do this with Lag Bolts on the Corners and Top so I can disassemble and reassemble easily.
You sir are inspirational, every time I see your videos it inspires me to build more things (even though I have no room for them lol) 🐿🛠 thank you my friend.
You Daniel inspire me !
I love bird nesting boxes and these are really important and a big favourite project for all. How about a beginner, intermediate, expert video? For tiny garden birds maybe? Love the content John, Sam and Jordan. Keep it going. From the UK. 🇬🇧
I seen something like this on pintrest, it had a cabinet kinda top on it with a peg board back and an overhead light. Lots of storage. Looked really nice.
John I keep coming back for the humor and the great builds. Keep up the good work.
Would love to see you make a custom Steelers pool table...maybe a random #62 easter egg in it...
Do a epoxy Coffee table with just the basic tools! I believe a lot of your watchers including myself are interested in making epoxy tables, but don’t want to drop a bunch of money on planners, CNC machines, and bandsaw‘s etc.
Love watching your videos by the way! Keep up the good work!
John thanks for the preview of the new shop. And this video of course!! Name the new shop "The Squirrelly Nest"
Very nice job. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends Keep making. Stay squirrely. God bless.
This is awesome! Perfect for weekend warriors and beginners! Also, Dewalt power stack FTW!!!
i built quite the exact same bench for myself but i used cheaper material. Wooden stick used for roof. So i ended up adding a fifth leg in the middle of the bench and it is very sturdy. Highly recommend.
Those casters are perfect. Thanks for showing them. Dad put wheels on his big 'ol bench that I inherited, and I hate that it's 4" taller now. Gonna have to get some of those instead.
Love your videos and your crew .... very enjoyable to ... like how you and your team do the beginner to pro videos especially.... Thanks for the videos
Sweet bench! I'm thinking about doing something similar but with hinges in each leg so it can fold/collapse! I have almost zero room in my two car garage and need a bench that can be out of the way for other projects!
Sounds like a killer idea Jake!
@@John_Malecki Thank you! P.S. new shop name could be Squirrel Farm? Thoughts? 😂
I just made a table like this last week, although a little smaller (3'x7'). Used 4x4s for the corners and 2x4s for the rest. Also used pocket holes and castors. Only used drill and portable circular saw. Not that I have this table, I can get some more power tools for bigger jobs.
Finally I can say I've made a somewhat more advanced version of something on this channel. lol
I made my own "t-track" using steel strips and so the whole thing is capable of being a part of various different jigs I'm making. So far the router sled jig has been fantastic.
Though my caster system is more off the shelf, unfortunately..
Are there pictures of your build anywhere?
I just finished building this exact table... Topped it with black melamine. Do a video doing add-ons to the table!
Hey John I love the videos by the way I'm 14 and I'm learning a lot from you
Easy beginner work van layout
im going through this now and its hard to efficiently organize your tools/materials
Love to see some good idea's there barely anyone making that kind of vids
Shop looks nice. Glad to see you kept those sweet doors you made.
Would love to see a project that takes a jobsite table saw and makes it a workshop one, like building it into a table
If you need suggestions, why not just go through the progression of the next piece of shop project with 4 tools, and then the next project with 5 tools. Examples: workbench with 3 tools, miter saw cart with 4 tools, router table with 5 tools?
Is this your new shop? It looks huge. Love your content keep it up, very nice instruction for those of us up and coming wood workers.
Malecki Makes, as the new shop name! Malecki Makes Squirrely, Malecki Makes Awesome, Malecki Makes Everything Better!
Cocktail station with a wine rack. 3 levels.
Firewood holder. 3 levels.
Expanding dinning table.
Wow, your new shot is HUGE.
Basic saw horses, like the ones you used in this video.
Yes!
A simple 2x4 bench was the first thing I ever built and its the reason my wife let me buy a table saw. I made it with a circular saw and some screws. Highly recommend.
Just watching some of your old videos while I am supposed to be working and noticed you using the speed square for a saw guide.. I have never seen anyone do that, that is the slickest easiest idea I ever saw using a saw....Why did I not think of that?? yeah I have a miter saw, but lazy to carry out of the basement....
I would love to see an attempt for a gaming table or gaming accessories for tabletop games ! I thin k you guys would make an awesome table !
Basic projects? Hand tool cabinet to mount on the wall, think of it as a handtool workshop all in one cabinet that can open and fold out and if you ever move to another shop you can just unmount the one wall mounted cabinet and take all the hand tools with you.
What about a basic clamp top foldaway work bench for smaller projects the top winds open and can be used as a clamp ?
Quick tip on combining boards if they’re not joined: Crown them the opposite way when gluing or screwing together That’s what framers do(or are supposed to do) when building headers on a house. That way the crowns of the boards are fighting each other and it becomes super stable.
1:28 “I hate being on the floor” if only you had a portable work bench you could do this on
I need a sled for my contractor saw so badly and it would be cool to watch a simple (and safe for new woodworkers) way to build one.
Ceiling mounted storage!
I have those same casters on my workbench, They're da bomb!
Signed up for skill share, thanks.
I would love to see a bunk bed and/or loft bed build in the future!
I would call the new shop "The Mega Nut"
And for other 3 tool jobs, some storage shelves, and maybe a tool board
You should teach some in person classes! Would love to see tool storage builds. Cordless tool storage and clamp storage specially!
The middle of the long stretchers will sag over time. I built a similar bench to this as my first. The middle of mine sags, had to add a 5th and 6th leg to mitigate that.
I was thinking the same thing , might be able to double long support, 2x6 or use an engineered gluelam beam. A couple 45 corner braces could also shorten the span.
@@Belg1970 all good choices. Don’t want to be considered a troll but have to share my experience.
@@AJB326 Not at all I think we are sharing our life experiences and trying to help. I think way too many CZcams creators are getting way too touchy about comments not meant to be critical.
Thanks for this useful video for the beginners ✌️
I'd like to see a 4x4 ft table with casters that can be joined with another 4x4 ft table to make an 4sx8 ft table for big projects. I'd like to see it have something for adding heat guns on one leg and a paper towel holder on the diagonals so that I can do my epoxy work.
Oh, yes! I'd like it to be casters that can be locked in-place.
Thanks for your consideration!
I like for a base to start off with I am thinking add a drop section for chop saw in middle of long side and drop section for table saw on a short side.
From the photography world, I keep hearing it all the time that if you can't get good photos from a cheap kit, you won't do any better with high end gear.
I believe it's the same with wood working. Big shop gear gets thing done much faster, but the know how is all on the user.
Cool serie, by the way!
I batch cut all the time with a miter saw. I can get 5 1x's on there at a time or 8, 2x4s.
Couldn't help but notice that new powerstack battery! I'm so jealous right now
How about a video on building a flip top miter saw station? Where the miter saw flips under the table when not in use. Or combining that even with building the table saw into the table so there's an automatic outfeed?
lol you went from if you have small shop to , we need rolling tables because our shop is this big in 30 seconds. lol just busting your chops . nice work and nice table.
I got hurt at work and had to give up my business, I did mobile boat repair for 30 yrs. so now I'm starting woodworking out of a 10x16 portable building with not much recent knowledge, I helped my uncle with woodworking as a kid and loved it so my knowledge is windmill's , with the guy sawing wood or a chicken pecking at the ground.
and then the price of wood now limits me to reclaimed pallets for something to do. you are a blessed man to have big beautiful shop like that . loved your video have a nice day.
The sales pitch in the middle of flushes the massive potential this video had. Search continues for a good workbench video. Would have subscribed.
Needed a shot of John riding the table like Jordan did with style.
I’d like to see more small stuff. Bread boxes, napkin holders, bird houses, desk organizers, and dog houses. Looking forward to some smaller scale metal projects too. Decorative anything, wood and/or metal.
I wish there was a tiny bit more detail in the miter saw station video. It definitely skipped ahead and missed the tool slots and how the cabinets were assembled together. Maybe some stuff about mounting shop cabinets or other things that are basics but skipped by others.
What about a modification to this work bench to incorporate a shelf for the table saw? This bench would act as the outfeed table. Love the channel, love the work!
We have a lot of people asking for this, so its on the list! AJ
You guys should do a boat build, like a solo skiff but make it fancy, maybe some resin designs
Nice design, simple and easy!
Nailed it
You work 3 hours to create it and then you can use it for 30 years. I love it!
Jordan rockin’ a THE Ohio State ball cap! O - H!
I-O!
Nerds
I’m trying to make an L shaped desk with the base made of cube organizers. I have everything set up, but except how to create and connect the tabletop on each side of the L. What do you recommend? Do you have any tips, any specific type of wood that you’d recommend? And what tools I would need to use for it
You squiggle the squirt, THEN swirl with YOUR wood. That prevents pulling out.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
haven't heard "yuns" since I went through basic with a guy from PA....took me back
How about “Squirrel’s Nest.”
Thanks I'm going to use this for my new bench in my new house and you I subscribed 🙂
Beautiful work. Great show! Can you make me one?
Best quote of the video "It'll buff out!" PMSL
Nice vid, again! 😉
I need to build a workbench, but L shaped. Actually U shaped with an extra L, but what I'm trying to say: an easy how-to on a non-one-sided (is that a word?) workbench would be awesome 👌🏻
Would thoroughly enjoy watching you men do a Farmhouse Trestle table using mortise & tenon, doweling and joinery. Yes, I know it may have already been done by 9 million other youtube videos but I watch your videos not theirs.
You left out the tool in the red hat. Yes, Jordan, I called you a tool. 😂
Just a tool playing with a bunch of power tools
Awesome beginner build. I built one similar last year with MDF shelves and top because I had a sheet and a half laying around. It’s a great top until it gets wet or you spill a “soda” on it. Any tips on how to keep it from swelling other than painting?
Sealcoat from Zinsser.
French cleat wall for random storage of tools and supplies. My wife is from Monroeville.....she talks funny too! :P
She sounds awesome Mark!
Suggestion: 6” bench top jointer/ 12.5” bench top planer rolling stand.
Malecki Nation, could be the New Shop name. I know I am late and it most likely has a name but here we are.
that new shop will be awesome.
Hey John!
I have a table saw and a miter saw in my un-temperature-controlled, uninsulated detached garage that I haven't used in 20 years. After all this time, I need to work on a project for my kitchen. Are my tools still good? Are there any components that I should replace? (Saw blades?) Are there any things I should look out for? Should I replace everything? I'm always careful when working around power tools, and I always take decent precautions (like protective eye and hand gear,) and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks for the input.
Suggestion: 3 levels of table saw stand for the Dewalt saw you used in this video
Love the video!
I can dig it
Another one you could do is a step stool and a sitting shop stool/chair
"So I do not have to pull out.." famous last words.
NEW SHOP AHHHHHHH!!
Awesome
Hey man, i live your videos! Just an idea, what if you did something like this work bench but with 2 tools, the drill and the circular saw, then just clamp a straight edge down for long cuts... although then you need clamps I suppose 😑
Squirrellyburgh or The Squirrel City for the shop name. Great idea for us guys with limited tools and space. Keep up the slightly above average content!
Thanks Lance!
