    You should always use painters tape to cover where you don't want the caulking to go. It provides a clean line and looks really good when you're done.

      @@jesussleftleg7715 if you're smart, and you're calking around a window of a brick house, you'll use plumber's tape. Your experience has nothing to do with it. Everyone screws up every now and then, but if you screw up on brick, you don't simply clean that off and move on.

    That looks like my caulk work. Makes me feel better that I'm not alone. Sometimes I flow with the caul, most of the time it looks like that.

    Don't forget the caulk on the nails of the window frame, especially the bottom nails where water can get through.

    Put some tape around the windows and do it properly . Yes it’s time consuming but well worth it in the end . This is just shoddy .

  • @russellball1984
    @russellball1984 Před 3 lety

    Easier way is tape up,silicone,use washing up liquid in a spray bottle and spray then smooth,the silicone stays in the gap but won't smear the frame.

    • @Aplexity
      @Aplexity Před 2 lety +1

      That's a bit more materials, a bit more time, and it can all be avoided with a little good practice and the technique in this video. I wouldn't call more time and money easier

    • @tomalex4806
      @tomalex4806 Před 2 lety

      Couldn’t be more wrong. Use a silicone tool to smooth it so there’s no edges and using tape creates an edge when you tear it off. Using washing up liquid will get behind the silicone and it won’t stick properly. Also bacteria on your finger will be on the bead and will eventually have to be replaced again

    • @LebannersHook
      @LebannersHook Před 2 lety +3

      Caulk is for interior and exterior use. Silicone sealant is often referred to as caulk in the USA. And you should be using Polyurethane sealant and not silicone for exterior applications though silicone will work if you aren't experienced enough to handle the harder to work with polyurethane.

    • @BrendanoftheDE
      @BrendanoftheDE Před 2 lety

      @@LebannersHook I think main issue here is location difference, I work with mastic in UK so as it’s so wet here caulk wouldn’t work on the external frames, I can see why it’d be fine in hotter or dryer countries although caulk does crack a lot quicker and easier than mastic so i just don’t understand why you would use it
