Built a house once. Much caulking to do and You tube and this skilled craftsman were not around. I started at the front door and learned as I went around the house. Big mistake. This guy who doesn't seem to have a name is a genius with caulk. This guy covers every important detail.
Dude, impressive skill and technique. I wish my landlord contacted you instead of the shitty company they contracted... I can feel all the winter winds.
25 years in commerical sealants and i have to say thats a Great bead but i have a few suggestions. Your backer should be roughly half as deep as the width of the joint. Spray foam is problematic if you dont let it fully cure. The soap solution if a good finishing step but should never be used as the only tooling method. Wetting the joint before dry tooling can prohibit adhesion even though it looks sealed. Pro tip- you only need a small amount of soap in water and a spray bottle makes it way more user-friendly.
I work on the inside of trailers sealing them, but this isn’t about caulking it’s about what it does to your fingers. Is there a way to straighten fingers out cause of caulking?
I would advise against the expanding foam. That is why we always use backer rod. You are supposed to put is about 3/8” to 3/4” inside the gap depending on how big the gap is. The caulk needs to be able to grab not just the outside but inside the gap too. With the expansion foam that cannot happen. Also its a lot better to use metal caulk tools instead of finger. Just my recommendation
It’s a 2, to 1 ratio so if the gab is 1 inch then it’s 1/2 in inch for depth backer rod size depends on size of the gab caulking adhesion on three side top sides never bottom thus the backer rod never use water not only does it leave a shiny glaze that any expert can obviously see… also messes with the manufacture warranty. Always use caulking tools. At least that’s how I was taught.
Great job showing us how to use these tools. Where does one go to get the sausage caulk? I've gone to big stores, Lowes and HD , and they don't seem to have them in stock.
For anyone who thinks they know what they're talking about please shut the hell up. This guys bead is great! And for those criticizing him wet tooling, he doesn't have the time to sit there tape and mess around with the mess. Almost every glazer/caulker I know wet tools. Whether it be finger or tool, soap and water are always used.
Expanding foam a big no!you need to use backer rod to get a more uniform depth.second using your finger absolute no! You have to use a metal tool so you can tool back and forth to get the air out
You should see the caulking around the exterior windows of my brand new house, it's absolutely horrible 😫. How do they remove brand new caulking from vinyl trim and pvc windows?
i dont know what product you have. if silicone- i use exacto-knife , Supra- can be pulled off but it its Quad caulking- than sharp chisel is needed. But its always hard not to do the damage when removing existing caulking. I saw perfect window installation ruined buy the bad caulking job! But thank you for your comment.
I'm working in a caulking company. I do Balconyes, precast, windows, foaming, fire stop. And many things about caulking, if anyone has an offer text me, I know use zoom boom, scissors lift, and swing stage. I speak Spanish and English 50%
Exactly This going to leak and fail !!! I bet he don’t know the reason for the. Backer rod nether the depth for the sealant. (Correct term ) I’ll wait lmk if u know
Yeah that’s all wrong what he did needs backer rod about 1/2 in your need about 3/8 penetration to half inch depending the width the guy underneath me nailed it
I have slickers but fingers is faster for me. I used to use backer rod before. But foam works almost the same and the caulking pull test is the same. When i did windows on commercial building, the engineer who was in charge for structural let me use foam. Thanks for the comment
He does a great job of laying a nice even bead down , you don't need a spatula if you can run a bead like him nothing to remove just smooth it and press it in a little,. Great job!!
Backer rod to have a bond breaker Not spray foam. , Also tooling by fingers is bush league and exposing yourself to all sorts of chemical exposure Window sealant would not pass especially with water/soap is not allowed by manufacturers . You are introducing moisture onto the pours substrate and contaminating the surface. Outside of his shooting skill I would not recommend anything in this video.
i have two comments to your comment: 1. where is your video to show how to do it properly so i can criticize it? and 2. Who the hell are you to recommend? caulking master? inspector? manufacturer?
It wouldn’t pass with soap and water ? Thats why the inspectors I bring up on the swing stage pass it right? I can show you 30 year old caulking that’s still holding that was tooled with soap and water which was supposed to hold 25years 👍
This is one of the worst examples of commercial caulking. No soap No finger And for anybody who tapes NO TAPE. NO spray foam. When you pack with backer rod the caulking goes in the joint.

This video delivers
Thumbs up and thank you
Perfect video brother
Looks good

good video ..how much you use to charge every feets using this material??
Nice job
Nice caulk!
Love this demonstration! This is exactly what I needed to see. Perfect!
verry very fuckin nasty, nasty as hell
Fucking finally
Dang. Good job. Perfect.
I wish this video was around when i caulked my basement window... it was messy. This video is very helpful thank you!

That’s going to leak for sure Rookie!.🤣🤣🤣
Right !!! I would get fire if so that at the company I work for
We do sealant n deck coating and this is just really shitty work
Anyone can answer me wether the nozzle is the same as the 11" sausage gun?
Nice work. I’d love to see you caulking a half inch gap.

I was taught that the void should be as deep as it is wide but never less than 3/8
You should never pack it deeper than 1/2 inch its in all the handbooks. Even if the joint is super big
Most manufacturers recommend a depth to width ratio of .5 : 1
Came here to say this lol. As a glazier specializing in caulking, his backer is not in far enough, and soapy water is a BIG no no
@@westside98 thats what we where taught
Good video. I have to do this at my house after take the old caulking out, Can you tell brand of this product?. Thanks
thank you for your comment. Its Dow Corning Silicone 795

Hey. You do a really good job.
Where do you buy this caulking?
Backing rod. It’s use to prevent 3 side adhesive a building moves
U always need to go 1/2 the opening and not the thickness about 3/8 not 1/4,
Great job showing us how to use these tools. Where does one go to get the sausage caulk? I've gone to big stores, Lowes and HD , and they don't seem to have them in stock.
Caulking supplies only. Check who sells “ Dow Corning “ in your area. They all sell the guns as well.
you can order online
Hi my friend are you still making the aluminum downspout diverter? Please let me know Thank you
That is definitely urethane caulk... not silicone.
@@DANMOTYL Wrong! it's 100% silicone. Not urethane. Love the confidence in the comment though. Better luck else where.
@@eliasattal I stand corrected.... I thought you were using Dymonic
Can you do caulking when the temperature low like what we have now 10 celsius?
The silicone that we are using is Dow Corning 795 . It can be used in cold temp even in -10 C. As long as the surface in dry.
When it's real cold I leave a box of 795 by my exhaust while the truck is warming up
Cam you make more videos like this

Not bad
What tipe caulk are you use
Dow Corning- DowSil 795
Why is it called sausage caulking? Is the the size ? Or is it how you use the caulk?
The mastic comes in a flexible tube, kinda like a sausage 😂
I don't know of a manufacturer in the country that would allow you to tool it like that. Are you going to wash off all the sticky soap?
Bravo.
Good tutoring and EXECUTION. 👏
You cannot use soap and water. It voids the warranty and soaks the bond line.
😂😂 soaks the bond? Warranty? Oh shut the hell up
where can I buy that caulk? thanks
i dont know where you live but search for "dow corning silicone" in your area and you will find a supplier

Wow no masking tape skills
Wish you could do the caulking for my house
Why do you use 795 That's not A structural joint.
Caulking isn’t easy but I make it look very easy. If you see my work, you’ll hire me on the spot. Thanks Cheers!

without the backer rod youll be fixing those next year...
Are you happy you got that off your chest? No one asked for your opinion. If you don’t like the content keep it moving.

Fix that audio brother can not understand most of the important stuff at the end of your video.
back than I used the old phone ;)
I’ll be honest those joints do not look very good at all. Tape and tool every time

I’ve seen different ways to get it done that are sound but if an engineer sees that he will make u cut it all out
It really is shitty caulking.
And while you're at it NO silicone either. It'll seal itself
Horrible job man
