Jawa Engine overheating?? Not Really!!

  • Jawa owners and few Jawa reviews spoke about the engine overheating. This video clarifies what others are calling as engine overheating is actually just a Myth. Different engines have their own optimum temperature and as long as the overheating indicator in the Jawa meter pod doesn't glow there is no problem with the Jawa engine.

      Hi Shivam, let me clarify your doubts from my experience in the automobile industry for the last 20+ years ( From working for a couple of automobile manufacturers, to running my own garage).
      IC engine (internal combustion) as the name suggests works on principles of heat energy getting transformed into mechanical energy, where hot gases burning inside the combustion chamber of engine during the power stroke keeps the engine running and the vehicle in turn. This burning of gases (fuel air mixture) attains flame temperatures of close to 1000 degree CELSIUS (for petrol engine) inside the combustion chamber. Some of heat is lost(lost for good reasons) in scavenging of exhaust gases, some by the engine's lubricating oil itself, most is obsorbed by using metals with good heat dissipation coupled with either forced air cooling or an liquid cooling system and the rest is absorbed(absorbed for good reasons) by the fresh charge of fuel air mixture by the next intake stroke. This leaves with some temprature as constant (around 88-94 degree CELSIUS) on the surface parts of the engine which is considered as the best or optimum (not too hot.. not too cold) performance temperature of the engine.
      This can be calculated in Fahrenheit too but the figures will be 200 degrees then.
      Now let me explain in layman terms. Take 2 scenarios.
      Scene 1: According to your calculation of 98 degree Fahrenheit (36 degree Celsius) which is almost the average temperature of Chennai throughout the year and most parts of our country during summer. Try touching objects like floors, walls or metal objects placed outdoors which are subjected to the same temperature( 36° C) and hence more or less carry the same temprature. You will not burn your hand as that's is 36° C.
      Now
      Scene 2: Ride / Drive your Bike / car for 10kms minimum and trying touching your engine or silencer. I would strongly recommend DON'T as that will burn your hand as that's anywhere around 90+ ° CELCIUS.
      BTW Did you watch a vlog that was mentioning this Fahrenheit instead of CELCIUS. I know there is one on CZcams about Jawa.
      Anyways, Hope the above information helps.
      Happy Riding 🤘

      Thank you for the information. I wrote this because according to the jawa dealership the radiator starts cooling the engine when it reaches to 98 degree fahrenheit until it decreases to 90 fahrenheit.

      @@shivam619309 No worries mate!. don't trust all those who hold spanners in their hands these days. Most do it as as 9 to 6 job. Next time you can ask the showroom guy to touch the engine for 1 minute after the bikes is run for 10Kms. All his doubts about celcius and Fahrenheit will get cleared in that 1 minute. My showroom guy was struggling to put on the side panel of my Jawa after giving me the so called Demo of things. Finally I had to take it from him to do the job myself at the first go..

      Thanks buddy... Yes it's true that the tappet cover leaks oils. We have this (though not a intense one) on both our bikes. The rubber gasket material is not designed keeping in mind the engine temperature and characteristics of fully synthetic engine oil which as per it's characteristics generates high pressure unlike mineral oils and hence will try to escape any loops in the system.

    • @RajkaGarage
      @RajkaGarage  Před 5 lety

      Hi Tarun, is this happening every time you cold start? And do you crank the engine and move the bike immediately? If yes, then let the engine always warm up for a minute atleast (this is also a good practice to idle warm the engine and let the oil reach the head area of the engine before you start moving. Remember it takes atleast 20-30 secs for the oil to reach the tappet area in the head). One of the reason the Jawa may be showing these kind of flat spots in cold conditions could be because it's a BS6 engine. These engines are made to run on more leaner ratios (more parts of oxygen to Fuel) to kerb emissions and more leaner the engine, it will produce these flat spots. Most ECMs are tuned to read the temperature and alter the engine RPM accordingly (+200/300 RPM in cold start).
      Or
      Is the engine RPM fluctuating while idling even while warm. If yes, you need to see the service centre as improper tappets settings is responsible for that, which i my opinion may not be the case for a factory set engine.

    • @RajkaGarage
      @RajkaGarage  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi Aravinda, first of all let me tell you, that's a great god given gift i must say being 6.3 feet tall. Talking about the comfort, the Jawa has a straight forward handlebar which will take care of your upper half with your hands bent in the perfect obtuse angle( that's the ideal angle from comfort and comfortably maneuvering perspective which accounts for safety). But coming down due to your height your legs may bend backwards knees below to fit on the foot pegs which may cause some knee pain in long rides. There can be a way around this by adding a layer of high density pu foam to the seat cushion will increase the height little bit and will also take care of the stiff stock seat of the Jawa. I would recommend try your hands on one of test models and see if you feel comfortable in the above 2 things i mentioned (Arms and Knees). I hope this helps. • @RajkaGarage
      @RajkaGarage  Před 5 lety

      Hi Tarun, that's interesting as it goes to prove (though not a general statement) that the Jawa's electricals can respond delicately to rainy conditions. CIL lights are not necessarily a reason to worry about always. They can turn on if any wires or intake/ exhaust sensors malfunction due to wet weather etc. You can ride the bike as long as it in not miss firing, emitting unusual odour from the exhaust or showing in any flactuations in the engine RPM. But
      Take the bike to your dealer at the available opportunity for a diagnosis.

Just a caution with cult followers, generally RE owners will never have any bad opinion about their beloved RE. Dominar and KTM owners will sing gaga about their machines and even Pulsar owner owners will praise it 'as if' it is more reliable and popular than a RX100. So getting a genuine feedback can be little tricky as these are just users and owners of their beloved machines.

Moreover the Jawa has a lot of chrome parts on it which needs to be protected from rusting by applying anti rust oil on it. Chain Sprocket, silencer parts may tend to show rust if bike is not used in rainy season. So please apply anti rust oil on all the metal and chrome parts. Hi Gokul, on the stock rim, you cannot install bigger diameter tyres. Also please do not put any other wheel and tyre size on the bike for 2 technical reasons. 1. Change in front tyre/rim diameter will give incorrect Speedo reading as the Speedometer is callibrated to the wheel diameter. 2. Change in Rear diameter will have adverse effects on the gearbox in the long run (though only visible under microscopic level). It will have negative impact on the acceleration (pickup) but slight improvement on top speed and mileage. But not advisable over all.

Ask the service centre to nicely file them also sand the brake drum with a good 80 number sand paper. Also if possible get the brake plate (on which the brake liners fit) replaced under warranty. If the brake shoes are not sitting firmly inside the brake plate at both the pivoting end and Cam side even then this squeaking noise may come. If the problem still persists then I am sorry to say that this may be again due to poor quality parts from Jawa.

    Bro before 1st service in jawa 1000km
    We can drive above 80 kmp on speed

    • @RajkaGarage
      @RajkaGarage  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi Sam, i would strictly recommend sticking to speeds of 60KMPH till atleast the first 2000 kms. This is called the running-in or Engine Rolation period when all your frictional parts are trying to set with each other like in a marriage.
      What you do in this crucial period is how your machine will behave like for the rest of its life. One of the best thing of doing an engine running-in is start and keep the engine running for atleast 2 hours in fast idle speed immediately after delivery. This is one of the best ways which we normally do in a workshop for newly built engines and ensures that the engine is not subjected to the loads which are observed while driving in traffic/ on road (abrupt gear shifting/braking etc). Just a catch while you do this, put 2 table fans on either side of the engine for extra cooling as the engine will tend to go hot in a stationary bike. Hope this helps.
      Happy riding!!

    Coolant boiling point is not 100° C, and jawa not have thermostat it have continue flow of coolant through radiator to head it only have sensor of fan, (thermostat function is different it bupass the coolant) and last i think maybee at 95° or 98°c of degrees sensor is activate or it can be high

    • @RajkaGarage
      @RajkaGarage  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi..In my video I have never mentioned about the Jawa having a ' WAX Thermostat' I am referring to the electrical Temperature Sensor (T Sensor) for switch on/off of the radiator fan. Point no 2. I didn't even mention about coolant's boiling point, I said waters boiling point. Coolant's boiling point can differ from brand to brand and is generally somewhere between 105°C to 115°C (but to be honest in my 20+ of experience never bothered to do a bench test of coolant's boiling point and no one dares to open the radiator cap once the engine is hot) and last, again I said generally the temperature is 80-90°C and didn't mention that this the Jawa's optimum temperature. Anyways the video overall is to clarify the 'myth' of Jawa's overheating.
      Trust this helps.
      Happy Riding 🤘

      @@TanudeepSingh Hi Tanudeep, same here.. even I did notice this slight pulling of left side on both the bikes we have. The problem seems to be a little understeer at slow speeds due to a fat front tyre and the handle tends to drop towards leftish side of the bike. But no such problem at high speed. I have tried riding without hands on the handlebar to test this. But will surely observe closely and make a video soon. It's been a long time I made a video as currently I am down a back pain and hence was on bed rest for sometime.

      @@TanudeepSinghThanks bro.. The MIL indicates that The next thing that might happen to your machine is a Lambda sensor failure. I got to know that every 5 out of 10 bikes are getting the lambda replacement and all the 15 samples I saw appeared to be roasted. Did you observe this while riding in heavy traffic. As I feel this is associated with Engine Heating. Jawa folks seriously need to rethink on the fans 'switch on' duration. It needs to run for some more time than its current duration.

    Fuel gauge not working properly.

    • @RajkaGarage
      @RajkaGarage  Před 5 lety

      Hi Nitish, thank you for watching and writing back. The fuel gauge is a analogue signal fuel gauge and will show readings that are not very accurate (and in the Jawa's case it seems to be over sensitive). If you park on the side stand or during braking the fuel level may show inaccurate reading. There are also various other drawbacks of analogue signal fuel gauges. Keep an eye on the Fuel low level indicator light in the Speedometer. If that comes on, you need to refuel as riding long with that light on will damage your fuel pump. Hope this information helps and please subscribe to my channel for more informative content on automobiles.

Jaise aluminium heating point aap ne Google pe 'padh' liya waise hi Google se hi pooch lete ki Automobile liquid cooling system kaise kaam karta hai. Aur TS 2:56 mein wohi bata raha hoon main.
      Aur waise 660° aluminium ka HEATING point nahi MELTING point hai.. Heating or Melting mein utna hi farak hota hai..jitna Google University se ratta marne mein aur practically hath kale karke knowledge kamane mein hota hai..
      I generally don't reply in such manner..but you are a special case.

    Overheating is only a ploy to sabotage the Jawa by paid PR by cheap CZcamsrs who don't know shit about mechanical engineering and technology.
    ( And you can easily understood yourself which companies benefit from this!)

    • @RajkaGarage
      @RajkaGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Personally I have Not noticed any such overheating (in real technical terms) and all the heating that the Jawa has is its engine own charecterstics or optimum running temperature. (Pasting a link below where in the initial days I have tried to explain the myth related to Jawa's overheating)
      In the past when the bike was launched I did see some videos talking about the Jawa getting overheating issues but haven't seen any of late.
      honestly speaking I have now 3 Jawa in close circles ( one just added last Sunday) and in terms of quality..Jawa needs to act and act fast and real world coz there are several petty issues which keep and creeping up every now and then. Paint coming off the bike after a wash for the so called quality improved parts is a serious issue. My battery has been replaced 3 times before finally replacing the rectifier unit.
      About paid PR not sure if there is anything really called as paid PR for CZcamsrs.. who will sponsor such stupid things.. when we all know opinions /conclusions could be someone's personal ones and not necessarily based on facts..
