Its really not as easy to go low from the forward tees as you would think but it definitely highlights your deficiencies. I tried it and noticed that i really need to work on partial wedge shots because my proximity to the hole was no better than full swing wedges and short irons. The par 5s were the biggest difference for me.

This is pretty much exactly what I felt as well! I realized this round that my 50 yard wedge shots give me no advantage over my 120 yd wedge shots. I definitely know what I need to spend time practicing on…

Well now you know what you already knew. Your wedge game needs work. Gota put those close shots a lot closer to the hole to go low.

Absolutely!! A lesson within a lesson. It's a drill thats supposed to teach you to shoot lower scores but it taught me to work on wedges and putting!

It works if you can memorize your wedge distances for 1/2 & 3/4 swings for all your wedges. A good start would be to hit your 54 degree with a half swing measure the average distance your ball travels. From there you can reasonably adjust to your other wedges.
BUT ultimately I think the take-away from playing an up-tee round is there’s value to hitting to a favorite full-swing wedge distance and have the discipline to always strive for that distance.
My flaws are that I usually come up short when I hit partial wedges or pull the shot because of poor rotation.
    Enjoyed the video….keep em coming.

That's a great tip about practicing the half shots with one wedge and then adjusting for the other clubs. Do you feel like your trapping or covering the ball on those partial shots?

I am a ‘digger’ when it comes to irons and wedges, so yes my angle of attack makes it feel like I’m trapping the ball. I try to focus on good rotation both back and through, with a slightly inside swing path on both the take-away and down to impact. A good hip turn and the club releases with crispness that adds spin and bite. As I said above, my biggest flaw is not rotating enough, so my mis-hits are most often pulls.
If you can figure out your ‘favorite’ wedge and then get really good using a half-swing with it you’ll gain confidence and precision from a closer yardage and reduce the size of the circle around your target on the green, then *hopefully* improve your strokes gained through putting.
Watch the pros on tour hit 50 to 60 yard pitches; not too much wrist action, a bit of an inside take-away, and smooth hip rotation…with the club going from parallel to the ground in the back swing to pointing at the sky in the finish. They make it look so effortless…which it kind of is; it’s knowing the yardage that swing will produce that is the critical part.
