- I'm happy to FINALLY unveil the guide to fishing in Stardew Valley! This is a pretty in depth skill, there's several ways to build it, and it's connected to the other skills in several ways. Not only is it one of your best money makers, especially early on, but you can find all sorts of helpful items like weapons, ore, seeds, and pretty much anything else you can think of.

Out of curiosity, does the quality bobber buff to fish quality stack with the one from getting a perfect catch, providing +2 quality instead of +1?
can we have the ultimate guide to mario 4 romhacking please?
one little mistake on your video, you can catch the red snapper during witer without rain totem, you just need a snowy day or a blizzard.
thankyou for the info about legendary fishes, i never hooked a single one of them coz i always fish in the same spots and i didn't knew i had to be in a specific place for them to show up
Me seeing this comment after taking screenshots during the video: 🫠🙃
Your intro is the greatest
the delivery of “we’d feel more at home with a pickles” absolutely SLAUGHTERED me
I need a Flounder. Don't ask why.
Same xD
100% gives me the same vibes as the lava eel asking for mega bombs. "You know, 2 Mega Bombs would really liven things up around here!" was the message I got, had me dying. It's the little things
@@deadlocked392y'know, they weren't wrong, per se
What
I love fish ponds, but the requests are so uncanny. Just yesterday, my lava eels wanted to feel more at home with "2 mega bombs" 💀
With how much we and the miners bomb the living hell out of it, makes sense. Now what does a blobfish want rice pudding for and what does a sturgeon need pickles and diamonds for is a better question
My sturgeons asked "if it isint a trouble" for a nautilus shell... mid summer
Don't underestimate crabpots, they are pretty useful if you want to stack up on sashimi or you want to mass produce quality fertilizers.
ah yes, the stuff sebastian's mouth with sashimi strategy
Periwinkles and mussels show up in some good recipes too :)
you can also get cloth super early with crab pots, because you can stockpile a lot of newspapers with very little effort 👍
Yeah crab pots is amazing, ypu don't need many space like barn just to make a good food.
Never need to make refined quartz again
I love the beginning with all the different stardew content creators like seanie and charley
plus wickedy
And plus leap
I didn't know each represented a content creator. My appreciation and respect is now doubled!
maybe in the next episode of this series there will be different creators too? if that's the case im hoping for Argon lol
@@spookysomeone the one I think I watched the most was ezlily bc I'm still at the start and she gives a lot of tips
If you're out there and aren't a fan of the fishing side of the game, I implore you to, at least, use crab pots. Crabs are one of the most useful items in all of Stardew Valley since they are an ingredient in Crab Cakes which provide an all day +1 speed boost. Once you experience a day of +2 speed from Crab Cakes and Triple Shot Expresso, you won't ever want to go back.
I HATED fishing in this game. Now I've gotten so good at it I've grown to love it and always volunteer as the designated fisher on farms I play on. I have the fish tank completely done on fall 5th of year one and felt so good.
Damn the idea of +2 speed on the horse…you’ve convinced me
I have ginger island and 4 fish ponds, so rn I'm trying to have the 4 ponds filled with eels and have 96 spots on ginger island with peppers.
Pepper poppers give 1+ speed and 1+ luck.
And I'm also trying to collect 100% water retaining soil and turn my greenhouse from ancient fruit to coffee.
Edit
I meant you can cook spicy eel.
@@friedrice4015
Get 2 - 4 ponds filled with eels and grow peppers on ginger island or the green house. Each day, fish 2 eels from each pond you have and when the peppers are ready harvest them.
Now you can cook spicy eel, which give 1+ speed and 1+ luck.
The wiki on cooking is helpful.
@@friedrice4015
You or someone else liked my comment, I have since changed my mind.
The desert trader gives 1 coffee per diamond and 1 eel per ruby. Get crystaleriums with diamonds and rubies.
"The most despised part of the game" and here I am, loving every second of it, running for it every game.
i love fishing in like every game that i play
I think it's mostly because of how ABYSMALLY SMALL the fishing bar starts out. That's why I buy the Training Rod on new saves
A single Carp at normal will earn the money back, and with so few inventory spots, you can fish for quantity over quality early on.
I love how you make a case for Trapper as well, most people I've seen say it's trash and should never be used so it's great to see other perspectives!
What can I say, I’m a lover of crab pots
I love the bait bin! Sure, you can buy or make bait, but it's so much more convenient to have a bin next to your crab pots so you can reset them on the go. Otherwise I just end up never touching them.
I gave up and always carry bait after I used my first item recovery service to get bait back after loosing about 20 pieces, forgoing about 15 pieces of copper, dying on floor 14 for the 4th time. I still only have the 3 CC pots but next mining trip is to make more crab pots with trapper now that I got it.
Plus if you got automate mod, then you have a true loop if the bait production matches the crabpot usage
Or... Place a chest filled with bait next to your crab pots.
@hollywoodburford a whole chest might merit having a small casual processing spot with 1 or 2 furnaces and even more recycling machines for the trash the crabpots provide. After watching some other creators do floor-ganizingI'm thinking of taking a recycling machine to the mountains or beach for fishing trips. 🎣 not exactly happy about throwing out trash on fishing trips.
Came here to say this!! I found it so tedious to withdraw bait from a chest or my fishing rod on the way to the crab pots: with 5-ish bait bins, I can just hold down a single button to run past the bins, run past the pots, and then “deposit all” into my crab pot chest at the end of the docks. The less I have to futz in a menu, the happier I am.
You can also get the Crab Pots from the Crab Pot bundle in CC without any fishing XP! Crab can be obtained by killing a crabshell in the Mines, and anything else can be found at the beach. Worst case scenario is that you'll maybe need a lobster or something from the cart. But that way, you can passively gain XP without ever touching the rod.
UPD: Ghostfish also drops from enemies, IIRC specifically from ghosts.
This is what I did in my first playthrough, I had no interest in crabpots because they're too much work to check and bait everyday, I got most of the CC bundle from things washing up on the beach.
This is what I do every time and then craft more crab pots when I get more materials
There's a few non-fish you can put into the fish pond.
Specifically, coral and sea urchins. Corals aren't really worth, but sea urchins are a good source of roe for the remixed bundle that wants 15 roe because sea urchins don't have any quests for max capacity (and thus can be filled right up and get to producing roe quickly.) And you can just empty it out and put another fish in there when you want toe.
I'm working on that bundle and didn't know this, thank youuu!
Fun fact: the max distance for casting used to matter. The rules for what you could obtain in treasure chests used to be determined by your fishing level and distance cast, with some items being locked behind max distance casts . This was changed to the current system that gives items based on how far you are from shore.
Mariner also has a hidden benefit, not only does it eliminate trash, but it makes it so all crab pot outcomes are equally likely - more than tripling the chance to catch that elusive lobster.
This explains why I have yet to catch a shrimp on my fishing level 9 save, while my other save has plenty ...
Good to know. I still will go fisher route as I like the minigame but maybe if I do multiplayer I tell my friend who despises it.
Late to the party, but on my perfection-attempt save, I have never caught a lobster in my crab pots because the RNG hates me. I'll try this!
I noticed that Willy just gives us really rare and valuable stuff like a stardrop or a Pearl. I guess he sees us as his kid in some way 😅
I'm so excited for this series' episode. Thanks for making this! Just fyi, Midnight Carp can also be caught year round at 10pm+ on Ginger Island.
Not me being confused as to why it only had 12 views until i checked the upload time and it said two minutes ago. Cant wait to watch!
nearing the end of the eighth year on my first play through, and i’ve managed to stumble upon one legendary fish. now i’m gonna finish my fishing catalog within this next yr fs. thank u for this!
In case you missed it, the books you retrieve around town that go back to the library often give you helpful hints. I think there are 2 books that talk about the legendary fish with one basically mapping out where to encounter them.
How the heck did you managed to go eight years without catching one legend fish?
@@blameitondanny it’s my first time ever playing the game, even my brother was confused as to how much i completed without knowing anything 😭
Same I'm almost in winter on year 8, but I just got the 1.5 update so ive got so much more to do another 2 years easily.
@@blameitondanny ive only caught 1 legend fish and it was by accident
Re: catching lava eel
Lots of folks swear by the trap bobber. For me, after many days of nothing but trash and frustration I gave up on trap bobbers.
What worked-a "little bit of extra luck" day, fish soup, lucky lunch, and a CORK bobber.
Tl;dr: don't be afraid to experiment and see what works best for you if what works for others isn't working out...
I’m super new to the game and was struggling to figure out why I couldn’t get a specific fish in my game.. in my game it’s summer.. the fish I want was a spring/ fall exclusive and I WASN’T FISHING IN THE RIGHT SPOT!!!! I am so grateful for this video thank you so much!! So glad I stumbled upon your guide today! I subscribed to hopefully learn more about this game!
Little fun fact, the trap bobber is undeniably the best bobber to catch hard fish, but some could argue that the cork bobber is equal. But seriously, use the trap bobber for any difficult fish you struggle with
Also getting a treasure chest will give you 2.2x the fishing xp, this can also be stacked with the perfect multiplier, meaning catching an iridium legend perfectly while getting a treasure chest will net you 6730 fishing xp
Good luck getting perfect on a legend. They move way faster than the bar
Who the hells getting a perfect on a legendary?
@@ablet85 Me who uses mods to skip the fishing mini game
I have about 200 hours clocked in on this game, and yet, I still learn something from your guides or, at the very least have a good time watching this
I have a friend who thinks that fishing in Stardew is easy. I think that he is insane.
I still contend that this is the best fishing minigame in the genre.
Seconded. It's simple, cute but unobtrusive, and pretty easy to figure out once you get past the initial learning curve
I personally love how much you can push your level. Level 10 + Master enchantment + qi seasoned seafoam pudding + Cork Bobber = a bar that’s half the size of the area
@@salmence100 Oh, I know. I couldn't have caught those legendary fish without that! :D
I wish there were an in-game way of adjusting the mini-game. I play on an older machine and so it is *literally* impossible for me to catch just about anything more challenging than a small mouth bass. I eventually had to get a mod to even have a chance of finishing up. It's a real accessibility issue
@@cannotthinkofaname7904you can increase your fishing level with food to make it more or less free
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Salmence, this is a truly excellent guide! I am very impressed. At first, I like others, struggled so much with finishing that I made a whole new farm to practice fishing on. I now really enjoy fishing and am currently working on a co-op with my daughter where we eventually plan to have a crab pot for every fish in the game. I recently introduced my mother to the game and will be sending your guides to her. I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for your hard work.
Hi guys, I just wanted to throw in this little strategy for easily catching any fish at all, even legendary fish.
Get an iridium rod, apply cork bobber for essentially +3 levels (as said in the video.)
Then, upgrade your iridium rod in the forge to get Master, which gives you a +1 level when holding your rod, meaning your base is now 11.
And finally, if you make seafoam pudding, WHILE having Mr Qi Seasoning in your inventory, it gives you +5 fishing instead of +4.
In total, this strategy gives you +9 fishing levels for a total of level 19! So I believe this causes you to have almost 40% of the ENTIRE FISHING GAME covered with your bar.
Also, for making seafoam pudding, you CAN find flounder AND midnight carp at their respective times. M Carp on north of the island, and flounder south and west. So this means you can get the ingredients year round, pretty handily.
Super helpful - thank you!!
Also have a squid fish pond for a steady supply of squid ink cuz there's no reliable way to farm them.
@@Indeeee all you have to do is reload the mines over and over again until you find a squidkid and tbat floor will always have a squidkid. Also Mr qis dangerous mines increases their spawns like 100x
@@stolenhero6650 Yep. And with a Burglar's Ring, it's squid ink galore!
Not really usefull lmao "you just need endgame things and then you can fish easily"
I played stardew for almost 4 years in game when it came out and never touched it again. Came back to the game this year playing coop and got instantly hooked again but this time I decided to check guides and stuff and then found your channel. Your content is amazing, thank you for it!
I love all of your Ultimate Guide videos. They are done with so much love and attention to detail. I really get the vibe that you thought everything trough - you developed a great concept for these videos and everything (from the animations in the beginning, over the complete charts, up to the quality of your voice recording) is just sooo good.
Thank you for creating and uploading such great content!
People not liking the fishing minigame is both understandable and hilarious to me, particularly with crab pots being a good way to level the skill up without actually fishing. It’s the crab pots I don’t like using, not the fishing.
I found your earlier guides just yesterday. What great timing with this video! I'm looking forward to your Mining and Combat videos as well, you do a great job aggregating the information in a concise way.
Stellar video! It's no wonder it took you so long, but it definitely paid off in the end. A lot of time & passion behind every aspect, clearly. Top notch stuff as usual, and I'm 100% saving those fish charts for my own reference. SUPER useful!
Literally started up my playthrough last week, this series couldn't have come at a better time! Truly the best and most concise stardew content out there, thanks a bunch :)
Holy days, what a massive guide you have created right here! Absolutely huge respect for the digging and work that has been put into this video. Truly inspirational!
I always love these videos, the level of detail you go into is wonderful and the tables are very useful for organizing information. Really enjoyed this one, thank you for making it!!
I just started SV and your guide videos have helped so much. Thank you! You have helped me love this game even more
I love the spatial organization of this video, def subscribing
Thanks my dude. Fishing is my fave. A lot of people have difficulty but it was easy for me so I just kept at it. Its relaxing and fun
Phenomenal video Sal. I found I really enjoyed the fishing minigame when I got the game about a month ago, and I was really looking forward to this part of the series-it did not disappoint!
I will note a couple minor errors. And I do mean very minor.:
A Sunfish Pond will occasionally produce Solar Essence. This is included on your Spring Fish chart, but is absent on the Summer Chart
The Blobfish, and therefore its Roe, are equal in price to the Ice Pip. The Ice Pip is much easier to get, of course, and so is the better recommendation of the two in most cases. but from a profit perspective their Ponds are roughly equivalent.
Tiger Trout do not reproduce in fish ponds. They are sterile, much like real life Tiger Trout, which are the result of cross-breeding between two different species, much like mules.
The woodskip is also found in the player’s ponds if they choose the forest
Forest farm might as well be a hack. Woodskip, free rare mushrooms and hardwood ... too easy.
I found your channel through these videos and I thought you had stopped doing them. So happy to see that I was wrong! Keep up the great work!
Just to add some info. Getting a perfect gives a 2.4× multiplier. Which is why speedrunners buys the training rod to power level their fishing early on
Crab Pot fish are great for quality fertilizer.
I tend to passively build them up over summer year 1 to have them ready for Fall year 1.
I’m playing for the first time and was on the process of making a list of all the fishes I haven’t caught yet, this video came right on time!
Just started the game. Thank you so much for this video, it really helped make sense of the various minigames and though I am pretty new to fishing overall, I find myself actually liking it a lot. Thanks, again.
Yes! Been waitin for this one! :D I honestly don't like fishing that much but I know it's important to the game lol. Thanks for the guide!
By god USE THE TRAINING ROD!!! I hated learning fishing with just the bamboo pole but WOW does the training rod make a HUGE difference when you are beginning. I used it until I was level 2 in fishing and it helped so much.
Heck, I'll use it until I can get the iridium rod. Catching fish with low skill is awful.
Your fish charts have helped me and my siblings more than you can know, thank you so much, I love your videos so much, there what encourage me too play stardew more
I don't think you could be more thorough. This was excellent
I am so grateful for your channel! You do awesome work. Thank you!!
Finally another part, Keep up the good work!
Oh boy…I love fishing but it took me so long to get the hang of the mini game XD. I find it so addictive especially when there’s treasure chests.
If y’all are looking for a great way to pretty much guarantee a treasure chest with each cast, use the Pirate profession at level 10 with an iridium rod with magnet bait and a treasure hunter tackle. They all stack meaning there’s a lot of treasure to be found.
So many fish I forgot I was watching an ultimate guide to fishing and not a list of all fish.
I'm not even kidding.
Love your guides!
Best fishing video on the internet. Those seasonal charts were immensely helpful
Has anyone else had lava eels that wanted a “dwarf scroll IV”?
You should also make a cooking video, where you show of where to get EVERY recipe, and how to make them is something
That would take even longer!
I JUST had the lava eels ask me for it. I had to grind the skeleton levels killing blue slimes for a couple days.
Thank you for your huge effort! I've been suffering with the fish tank bundle a lot.
Thank you; this is a great guide! I have been playing the same farm since I bought the game and I've never really done much with fishing, but not doing anything with it is preventing me from finishing the Community Center and progressing through the game. I'm going to have to start with the training rod to see if I can get those last couple of fish bundles...
Absolutely brilliant series, wish this was here when I started playing stardew
When the blob fish gives farm totems in the pond they will give 5. They also seem to give them more often then other fish's special drops
Lovely video as always. Surprised to hear many people don't use the lake much. It's my favorite early game money spot. Largemouth and Bullhead are solid money and especially Bullhead aren't that hard to catch when learning the ropes.
Edit: Also the Carp can both be sold for less money but still some, or eaten to keep fishing for the others. Love the lake. 😁
Maybe I misheard you, but in fact Midnight Carp are available at both the Mountain Lake and the Cindersap Forest Pond. You can also catch them in the Forest Farm ponds (along with the Woodskip), and of course in freshwater on Ginger Island. I love crab pots mainly for making Fish Stew, which I think is the most useful fishing buff food for most situations. It gives 3+ fishing and lasts nearly all day.
I love fishing in Stardew, i find it relaxing and challenging at the same time, the other day I was so happy because I lasted a few days fishing and I was able to catch all the fish there is in the summer (including the octopus), because I had recently obtained the fishing channel :)
i am so bad at fishing and hate it a little so thank you so much for the help
Thank you so much! I still have have about 6 more fish to collect for the community center and it is completely done for me, but I had no clue when to catch these fish and was just trying all day every day. But now I can try at the right times. But that means hoping it rains because I don't have the supplies to get a rain totem lol
Super helpful! Thanks
I'll be getting this game soon. These guides are very helpful.
One of the best intro i ever seen! nice video
Dude I just got into this game from game pass, ur videos have been so helpful n informative!! Keep it up man!
Starew Valley has the best fishing mini game of any I've ever played! I enjoy it so much!
Fishing is my favorite thing to do and always the one I get to level 10 the fastest every time. I need a full fishing game I swear.
Been waiting for this ! I love fishin
I’m new to the game and fishing is honestly the most fun part of the game to me.

I've been playing this game for a long time and I'm still learning so much from your videos! Thank you for all the hard work and time you took into creating this amazing guide for us!! :)
I learned today that you can also get the woodskip on the forest farm, in the middle pond. Can't go past gold, though.
fishing has always been my favorite thing to do in games, i have always liked the ocean in games, as well as more water related features in non ocean/ fishing games
Those tables are amazing. Subbed for that 😊
Dude I literally started back up on my first farm yesterday to complete the community center and ALL I have left are some of the fish…. This is perfectly timed for my life LOL😊
Bro, You're AMAZING! What a lovely series!
Thank you for giving us this wonderful video!

Thanks
this was truly great guide
I’ve been waiting for this
I almost finish the game and this will help me with the advencement so Thank you so much!
Love your opening scene bro , subbed👍🏻
Nice. Thank you for the great work. I definitely have a new goal in my RPG-Style savestat. Collecting the ponds with different colours. That be awesome. Also, you really made me laugh when you went 'And okay. Well, there's a few more fish, *sigh* who would've - more fish?? Crazy!!' :D I have been a very nerv-wrecked and grim person for the last 20 years or so, and I laugh rarely, so that's definitely a compliment to you. :)
I can't seem to find if you mentioned it (sorry if you did and I missed it) but treasure chests being caught actually give a 2.2 xp multiplier. Which also stacks with the 2.4 xp multiplier from a perfect catch. Also, fish quality gives extra xp (3 for silver, 6 for gold, 12 for iridium), however the "perfect catch" bonus quality doesn't give that extra xp (the quality bump from the quality bobber does tho).
Another note, you left Catfish on the Summer chart.
Amazing guide to fishing! Definitely gonna use the charts to reference for the future!
Thanks!! This must have been a lot of work!
I love love love fishing in stardew thank you so mich
Love the Intro!
YOUR INTRO IS MY FAVOURITE THING EVER. Thank you so much for this 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I love the catching mechanic so much 😊

I was just beginning to have some questions concerning fishing and this video answered those questions perfectly.
I love when I fish out of boredom and get a legend..."oh hey it got a face! I'm keeping it"
Thanks that was really helpful
Also if people really want to use fish ponds and farm animals, but are short on space, you can use the fish ponds as "fences" or barriers to separate the farm animals in areas.
hooray! new video in the series!
