What is the purpose of that comment?? You're talking half hypothetically imagining a game that didn't exist where your goalkeeper didn't commit a last man foul to prevent a certain goal then but then you're no doubt still keeping the illegal goal Arsenal scored? You went 1-0 up when you should've been 1-0 down and you're complaining about the ref who helped you??
It's like that game vs ManUtd when Arsenal scored 2 offside goals and they still played it off like they'd been robbed because Campbell decided to give himself a red card????😂

    • @FootkerSnookball
      @FootkerSnookball Před 2 měsíci

@@a.demifemiflapo5795 You're only talking about the knockout stage not the whole tournament and don't get me started on their PL campaign.
As I said, it only became a close win for Barca because they had the goal chalked off then Arsenal went 1 up instead and I'm sure Barca weren't happy with that but they get on with it where as Arsenal don't deal with adversity well and they already have their excuses lined up if they lose. That's how they played under Wenger, the pressure was off because they either won or blamed everyone else but themselves if they didn't.
Even in title races, they'd have all the confidence at the start that their squad is the best and they'd say we can go unbeaten but if they then lost the title they'd give the excuse that ManUtd could spend more and we've done well just to compete with them which is a complete cop-out and Arsenal compensated for their lesser transfer budgets by getting SolCampbell from Spurs for free somehow so what Wenger is doing complaining about ManUtd being able to buy RioFerdinand a year later who actually wasn't even at his absolute peak at the time as much as Sol was when Arsenal were lucky enough to get him for free and ManUtd earned their money anyway and apart from if Sol & Cashley were playing Arsenal would pretty much field full foreign squads a number of times which you used to not be allowed to do but it was a cheaper option which compensated for lesser transfer budget and actually during this CL run they had games where they didn't play any English or even British players they had the fake accolade of being the first English team to beat RealMadrid at the Bernabeu when RMadrid played 2 English players to Arsenal's zero and also the Top4 being able to qualify for CL unlike previous years helped Arsenal qualify for it way more times than they would've normally been able to which in turn gave them still a decent amount to spend so to bring up money is weak but either way they were happy with their team until they lost. But they had no one but themselves to blame they probably had more WorldCup/Euro's winners in their team than their title rivals.
But many underdog teams would've preferred to be a goal up & a man down than a goal down and 11 vs 11.
Either way if it was the other way round and Arsenal were given same decisions as Barca got for & against but Arsenal ended up losing they would've blamed the ref for chalking off their goal at 0-0 saying they would've preferred to be a goal up rather than a goal down.

That barca side was still heavily loved world wide, even by neutrals, that fans are blinded and adamant they still would of beaten arsenal....but there was no question in my mind that 11 vs 11 arsenal would of won that game....they looked on fire while they had all the men on the field and barca were not on top....even with only 10 men arsenal were still solid against them and led for most of the match.
Like Henry said, Ronaldinho never turned up, Larsson changed it all.....fair play to Barca because they did the job, but for many they would rather have conceded the penalty and kept Jens on the field (and pires) but the ref chose to ruin the game in my opinion....and many believe he gifted Barca that game with that descision and ruined what could of been a classic final.

Usually ManUtd have to be amazing to win things, especially the ChampionsLeague. 2 CL's they won in invincible style whilst scoring loads of goals throughout the tournament despite hard routes but that year was supposed to be their lucky one which they should be entitled to because many other CL winners have had a lucky one or 2 etc... obviously ManUtd had a decent group stage campaign that 03/04 season far more convincing than Arsenal's who nearly were eliminated after just 4 games but for 88th minute winner followed by 2 more wins but ManUtd's knockout path that season was more EuropaLeague standard hence why a team like Porto managed to win it it was supposed to be ManUtd's path without corrupt decisions against them because even Porto's late goal was from a soft freekick. Porto already favoured from a Keane red card in the 1st leg so that match turned around and of course he's then suspended for 2nd leg but to get these other decisions as well was amateur for CL. Porto don't stand a chance of winning the CL format ManUtd won in 98/99 for example.

@@FootkerSnookball I agree that Man Utd shouldn't have been knocked out by Porto in the CL, but if everything went to script that season then AC Milan and Real Madrid wouldn't have been knocked out by Deportivo and Monaco respectively. So who really knows.
Even so, I'm not sure what would've made it a lucky CL win, to be fair, they were helped out by Matthaus inexplicably being subbed off in '99 and in '08 by, well... John Terry dropping on his backside. Both things that were out of their hands lol.

@@strykah92 So your assumption is that if Bayern hadn't subbed off 38 year old Matthaus (which was their own decision anyway which is part of the game the decisions you make just like the decisions made on the pitch determine the match) how come Matthaus played the whole game vs Brondby in the first game of that campaign and he let the exact same thing happen to Bayern??
Unless you just think everything would've been the exact opposite to the group stage I mean afterall Sheringham did score a 90th minute own goal equaliser for Bayern in the group stage but Ferguson still decided to bring him on in the final and it was the correct choice. But it's about making the right choices, not necessarily the opposite choices to what has gone wrong before, sometimes it's right to change other times it's not but ultimately it's your own team's job to make the decisions and if you choose wrong you can't call the winning team lucky based on that especially when that one seemed like the right choice to take off a 38 year old if you're winning 1-0 with not long left because there's fresher legs on the pitch to finish the job and I believe that wasn't anything to do with that sub sometimes the other team are just too good or something happens out of your control.
ManUtd missing Fletcher in 2009 final was not ManUtd's choice so that was unlucky it did effect the final it shouldn't have been a red card at all ManUtd still should've scored first in the final vs Barca and then there's more chance of winning but he was an important player at the time to lose him and in that manner was unfair plus ManUtd's CL run stopped after that when it could've gone on even longer but it still hasn't been equalled for 15years and counting.
Rafael getting sent off vs Bayern 2010 was not ManUtd's fault Ribery was pushing Rafael way more in the incident if you watch the incident but ref only books/sends off Rafael and none of the Bayern players got booked for demanding Rafael's dismissal Ribery was also 1of those, that numerical disadvantage proved crucial in deciding the tie eventually on away goals.
Chelsea had way more luck in 08 final than ManUtd who should've been 3-0 up at half-time scored a well worked goal, Tevez had two 2-0 guilt edged chances a header at point blank range plus he did a Gazza vs Germany Euro96 when it looked like he had a tap-in Chelsea's equaliser was flukey multiple deflections from a hopeful shot from distance giving Lampard a 1on1 with VanDerSar who also (as you mentioned a crucial slip for the other team) slipped at the vital moment so Lampard had an even easier finish. VanDerSar has saved 1on1's with Lampard before if you remember the 1-0 at OldTrafford Nov2005.
ManUtd also had the best chance of extra-time another well worked move not just a lucky chance or hit&hope from distance, Evra good work down the left gave Giggs an open goal but for John Terry's head but Giggs should've given Terry no chance.
And the thing about "if things had gone to plan in 2004 quarter-finals" ManUtd had 3 different seasons where they topped the group convincingly but then got RealMadrid in the first knockout round quite unluckily when nearly every other team at that stage ManUtd would've knocked out but that's a bit too early for those particular RMadrid teams to be knocked out but later on when RMadrid have reached a stage where they're not considered as much failures for being eliminated ManUtd could've beaten them like the worse teams in 2003 & 2013 did in SF's and also a 1off final ManUtd would've had an even better chance.
ManUtd topped group 03/04 albeit a straightforward looking one but the more you knock on the door the more chance you'll get a nicer pathway like other teams have won multiple lucky CL title's so ManUtd earned would’ve earned that but they were robbed of it but with Arsenal's poor CL record under Wenger you can't really say they should've won any particular year. They made just 2 semi-finals in 19 CL seasons. Their "legend" Vieira was in 7 of those and he never got past the CL quarter-final in his career (for any club as a matter of fact).

They wasn't invincible that season though so stupid title.
Plus they wasn't even invincible in the season claimed. Lost in all the cups so 😄 🤣 😂 😆

The majority of the players from the invincibles season were still in that season’s squad. Although the title is obviously for clicks.
And yes Arsenal were invincible in exactly what they claim. Dozens of other English teams who only won the league alone in a season still couldn’t do it without losing a fixture. Nice try being disingenuous though.
But I’ll help you out anyway: if you want a real rebuttal against Arsenal’s invincibles, just look up Ajax in 1994/95.

Wenger is the most overrated manager in Premier League history.
    Here's why;
    - Arsenal are a big club, and he only won 3 Premier League Titles in 22 years.
    - Wenger only reached ONE Champions League Final despite having 22 attempts.
    - Wenger only won the Premier League whilst it was a 2 horse race 98, 02, 04. As soon as Chelsea came along, then Man City, he won 0 Premier League Titles.
    - He was apparently famous for finding unknown talent for cheap, which he did with Henry, Anelka etc. Yet as soon as the stadium was built, Wenger FAILED to repeat this, and the stadium was blamed for him not winning the Premier League. Why couldn't Wenged find the next Henry, Viera etc during the stadium building years? Oh, yes, he couldn't handle a Title race that was more than 2 horses.
    - Wenger actually went 9 whole years with ZERO trophies.
    - Big clubs are measured on winning two things. Domestic League Title and Champions League. Nothing else.
So, yes it was good for Wenger to win a few FA Cups, that isn't the ultimate aim of a big club and a so called world class manager.
    - Apparently Wenger invented fitness, diet and nutrition. Big Sam was already using sports science and nutrition in the 90s, whilst he was in the lower leagues.
    - 1971 - 1995 was 24 years BEFORE Wenger.
Arsenal won 3 League Title and 0 Champions League Titles.
1996 - 2018 was 22 years (almost an identical time frame).
    Wenger years.
Arsenal won 3 Premier League Titles and 0 Champions League Titles.
Did Wenger really improve Arsenal? Or did he just win what the club had already been used to wining in an almost identical timeframe.
    Yes, I know.
    The Truth Hurts.

Arsenal fan here since 1988. Harsh, but lots of merit there.
Two of the three pre-Aresene titles were George Graham's 1989 and 1991 titles. George Graham's cup winners cup was in 1994. Can't believe its been 30 years since Arsenal's last "European Cup"!
Overrated, a bit harsh. But I do wonder how much more successful Arsenal would have been if George Graham hadn't been forced out.

@bolajiyoloye8968 nice to hear a reasonable response to some facts that go against the narrative.
I think Wenger was a good manager, but all my points above prove he NEVER was a world class manager.
A "World Class" manager is the narrative spun by the media and most gullible fans who don't bother to think for themselves.
I genuinely don't understand this cult like following Wenger has based on not doing a lot. Maybe all these people shaves their heads, wear robes and have to get tattoos of Wengers face on the same part of their body whilst chanting his name in unison at midnight.

Again it’s all an opinion so this is fine only critique I I have though is thag you’re using words like “only” where I’m like that’s a pretty amazing achievement 😭😭😭😂😂 so only is a bit harsh. Even the whole “Next Henry” nearly impossible. I’m with you on he should have won more but I do feel like post stadium move Wenger was squeezing a lot out of the team compared to the talent we had at the time. Like keeping Us in the CL idk managers that would have been able to do it consistently. Even look at other greats like Jose & Klopp (Klopp less so but his amazing (and they really are amazing) Liverpool team - even them every two years they have a proper down year). Even Jose another legend every few years his team combusts. Like surely seeing that you’ve got to appreciate the consistency of Wenger. Also again this is not a trophy but the Arsenal uno today with the fanbase and even the global appeal of it I do feel Arsene really is the reason for that so yh I get your POV but do feel you’re being harsh on one of the Prem Icons. Like most of these achievements you’re scoffing at only like 3/4 other managers in the league compare and those 3/4 are some of the greatest ever so he’s not in bad company uno 😅😅

Lad’s going about a lot lately. Probably not working out for him on the coaching front. Was on the international broadcast for Arsenal’s game against sheffield and comes across as a tightly wound character who’s putting on an act but is generally clueless. For reference, the other pundit was micharl owen and he was streets ahead in his analysis
