    We have just listened to this following a walk this afternoon - it is going to be so helpful once we get more birdsongs under our belts.
    Thanks Lucy for taking the time to share your knowledge with such enthusiasm. We’re ready for the next lesson!!😃👍

    Hi Lucy . Met you and your family by the river Douglas . Have had a very loud birdsong in my garden and guessed that it could be a Wren .
    I Identified the song from your website , and it was for sure a Wren. Many thanks and so nice to have met you .

    Excellent again, thanks Lucy! That "machine gun" rattle section is how I initially learned to spot wrens, especially when trying to tell them apart from dunnocks. They're so similar in many ways! Loving those wobbling graphics on the intro/outro!

      Yes indeed! I'll be covering dunnocks soon - comparing them with wrens and robins is key I believe! Thanks so much :)

    The wren with the machine gun cracked me up! In the beginning I used to confuse it with the chaffinch song - today I don't understand how because amazingly we do get a lot better at identifying songs! Now my challenge has been identifying the wren's calls.

      You're so right! I remember getting soo confused between them, but practice really works and it often suddenly clicks! 😊

    These videos are so helpful. I'm going to be thinking of the local Wrens stalking around bushes with machine guns now. I heard one this morning and thought it was a really loud Robin... but now I know it was a Wren.

    Thank you so much for these little lessons! I'm trying to learn birdsong as part of my ecology degree and these have given me a great place to start on what feels like a pretty big (but exciting and interesting) task! 🐦

    We have several wren nesting around our garden
    I’ve been sat in the garden playing wren song from CZcams and they go nuts, whizzing past my head and landing nearby
    I assume it’s a territorial thing and I’m probably winding them up, but it’s interesting to see

    This was a great help. It would be great if you could do comparison videos for commonly mistaken birds after we get the individual ones sorted.

    • @LucyLapwing
      @LucyLapwing  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Neil! That's my plan... I'm starting with the 'easy' ones, then I'll feed in the commonly mistaken ones as we get to them! E.g. I've just uploaded mistle thrush, which I compare with blackbird and song thrush :) Hope that helps!

    Three years ago there was a successful nest in the canopy over our front door. I guess the window and wall as a sounding board. The nest in the same spot was abandoned two years ago though. And last year there was no nest building at all.
