I have to add these words by Robert Browning in Home Thoughts from Abroad poem:
"That's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over,
Lest you should think he never could recapture
    The first fine careless rapture!"
Dad quoted me this when I was small, so this is the first bird I was able to ID from sound alone.

This one's my favourite. Love the quirky cartoons and impressions.

You know you suggested adding the song as a ringtone? Will you be releasing your impressions as a ringtone? 😂🎤🐦

Great session Lucy - heard a Song Thrush in my tiny yarden last night putting out the rubbish. It completely stopped me in my tracks as not noticed them before - SO many sounds and phrases from that one bird - even a brief car alarm sounding one? Amazing stuff and thanks for these very entertaining and useful lessons - really enjoying them. 🙏😁🐦🎶

What was a Song Thrush doing putting out the rubbish?

    Hi Lucy
I think we have a song thrush in our garden. I call it Bianca (from Eastenders) because it sounds like it is shouting "Ricky Ricky Ricky."

This is one I need a lot of practice on - also because there aren't many song thrushes near me on a daily basis and they are so varied in their singing!

Yes indeed! The rule of thumb is, if it's a bird that sounds like a million other birds, it's a song thrush! Hope you get to spy one :)

I always enjoy watching your vids even though I've been a birdwatcher all my life and am fairly proficient at most birdsong. Keep up the good work ☺

Great series. Thanks for doing this. I'm looking forward to the Chiff Chaff and how to tell it from the 'teacher, teacher' call of the Great Tit (which sounds to me like a Chuckle Brother saying 'To me, to me, to me, to me', if that makes sense?).

Hi Robert! Yes indeed, I remember getting the two mixed up. I'll be covering it along with great tit (and a little bit of coal tit) very soon! :)

Just subscribed & learning a lot. Great job. I’ve been birding for a few years now & struggle most with identifying different waders. Perhaps your next series could cover this group of birds.

My favourite bird song. Sometimes they make a noise like an old fashioned telephone ringing.

Thank you! I have been trying so hard to find information on where it perches to sing. I can never spot the local song thrush whilst it's singing but sounded high up. I only ever see if foraging in the ground!

First video of yours I am seeing. I subscribed to get to know my garden visitors, but this is so entertaining.
Is there a way to distinguish coal, blue and great tits with accuracy? Mine hide in the same conifer and it is impossible to see them.

    • @LucyLapwing
      @LucyLapwing  Před 3 lety

Hi Isobella, thank you so much! :) Yes there is - great tit and coal tit are particularly tricky (I still get mixed up), but blue tit is quite a simple one once you've got it. I'll be covering them all very soon! :)
