      Birds, but to be specific small birds. Parrots are my next favourite but a lot of the Australian parrots are in aviaries or as pets, so I feel like its more special to photograph small wrens as its the best way to see them up close.

    Hello, I am going to buy the A7IV next week.
    I already own the GM 100-400 and would like to add a teleconverter, I was suggested to go for the 1.4x and not the 2.0x with the A7iii.
    With the A7IV, is there a chance that the 2.0x work properly or is it still better the 1.4x?
    Thanks

    I have been photographing birds with an a6500 and 70-350 for two years. Now I have upgraded to a7iv with the 100-400 GM and 1.4x teleconverter.
    Is the autofocus as good with the 1.4x as without? Since birds (except ducks) are rather fare away I will use crop mode sometimes too.

    hi great video! I use this camera with a 200-600mm from sony paired with a 1.4TC but i get blurry or soft images. Should i turn OSS off? i often use low shutter speeds for stills, like 1/640-800. Thanks

      Try the same shot with IS on and off. Definitly shoot with a faster shutterspeed and work on your stability.

    great review. Do you think for my wildlife/bird photography ( Im using the A7Riv ) that I would see an improvement? Do you think its worth upgrading ( even though IM going from 61 down to 33 mp )? Or do you think it would be better to get the sony a6700 with its newer features instead ( Trying to stay in budget so A7RV or A1 is out )

  • @nasez532
    @nasez532 Před rokem +1

    Great review! I am considering getting the a7 IV + 200-600 for wildlife. The only thing that holds me back from getting it is the fact that it shoots at 10 fps with lossy compressed RAW option and 5-6 fps with uncompressed... Did you test the lossy RAWs image quality vs. uncompressed? Is there a lot of difference? 5 fps is not the end of the world, but it's not great either...

    • @StefanMalloch
      @StefanMalloch  Před rokem

      There is not really any noticeable difference in quality between the two. I shoot at 10fps all the time without issue. 15 would have been better but means more photos to cull, store and edit.

    • @benoittissier58
      @benoittissier58 Před rokem

      To my experience, there's no noticeable difference between compressed and uncompressed. But when shooting at 10 FPS, the EVF refresh rate becomes 10 FPS as well ! The camera actually shows the pictures that are captured. There is lag and big blackout. It can be very challenging to keep the subject in the frame. So for sports, I shoot at 8 FPS or lower for autofocus reasons.

    Is the 200-600 5.6-6.3 telephoto lens good for this ? I mean for birds and nature photography? They also provide a 28-70 kit lens with this camera, how about that ?

    • @johnharvey1786
      @johnharvey1786 Před rokem

      The A9 is not generally available new in the UK, only 2nd hand. In the UK the used A9 in mint condition is £2,100 or so and the new A7iv is £2,400 so a similar price. The Sony A9ii however is available new in the UK but its price is £4,199 so a lot more expensive. The main advantage of the A9, which I have, over the A7iv is the 20 FPS and the stacked sensor with better focus speed. However the original A9 is an older camera now but the A9ii only has minor upgrades so are these worth the extra £2,100 cost. The A1, which I also have, is a real step up in specs and performance but the price is very high at £6,499 in the UK.

    Dont EVER use the shutter down feature, it exposes those fragile shutter blades. Sony SPS folks have said live at Sony Be Alpha event, not to use this. Sony was reluctant to even have this feature but pressure from other makers having and touting it, forced Sony to have it. When Sony's own SPS folks talk against using that feature that should warn you away for it. Just dont do it. Sony SPS folks have already seen too many cameras with expensive shutter blade damage. Just not worth it for this longtime pro. I use simple techniques to keep dust of my sensor, and I dont get dust even in dusty desert and beach location shooting.. And the sensor is covered by an optical glass layer, easy and safe to clean properly if needed, you never actually touch the sensor . Cheers

      I think you are being a little overly cautious. I do understand your concern and there is also that warning not to expose to direct sunlight when the camera is off. Care when changing glass and keeping the lens cap on when powered down is a must. With that said I think being responsible and taking the correct precautions does not make the feature a definite don’t use. I think it’s a great feature especially when in dusty environments. You just need to be careful.
